Part B
An informal interview has been conducted on 7 June 2011 with a Manager of Yeronga Hot Bread Kitchen. The manager was asked about safety systems used at the bakery and what motivates the owner and the manager to provide a healthy and safe workplace. Business Background Yeronga Hot Bread Kitchen is located in Yeronga Village. This hot bread shop has been serving up bread and cakes for about 20 years now. There is plenty of outdoor seating for those who want to eat in, with hamburgers, milkshakes and toasted sandwiches on the menu. The large range of pies and all of the bread, doughnuts and cakes are made on the premises.

Both internal and external motivators are used by the bakery Internal Motivators Financial The first issue that the owner and manager are concerned about is financial side of the safety management and control. Failure to ensure the management of WHS issues may result in serious losses.

Injury and Illness Prevention This component is critical to running a small business as even one incident may have dire consequences. Therefore Bakery has WHS policy based on WPHS Act of 1995. Training is also provided as part of the Induction. Industrial Relations Though the business is local and small the relations are still to be considered and monitored so that no breach of law or act occurred.

Research Report June 7, 2011 External Motivators Image and Reputation These concepts are of paramount importance to the bakery as nowadays clients do pay attention to safety measures the business is taking and besides there is a number of similar businesses in close proximity, therefore the bakery must be up to the highest standards. Customer Requirements The OHSMS must answer all required selection criteria written by government to ensure that the systems are compliant. Legal Obligations The business must be compliant with all current statutory Acts and regulations of Queensland in order to secure the health, safety and welfare at the workplace of employees and clients.

OH&S systems in place As the business is small there is not a great number of systems in place but its operations are controlled and monitored and risks to health and safety of employees and customers are managed. All aspects of safety and health of staff and other clients are taken into consideration and the owner with manager are responsible for OH&S at the bakery.
