1-1
1. GENERAL
This section provides information on the NEC New Pasolink 13/15/18/23/26/38 GHz 4/8/17/34 MB
point-to-point digital radio system. The ( )GHz ( )MB digital microwave radio system is configured in
1+0 system. Included herein are system configuration, system performance, mechanical configuration,
interface, presetting switches, initial lineup and maintenance.
2. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
This system consists of TRP-[ ]G-[ ] Transmitter-Receiver (Outdoor Unit (ODU)) and MDP-[ ]MB-[ ]
Modulator-Demodulator (Indoor Unit (IDU)) (see Fig. 2-1).
The [ ]GHz 4 MB (2 MB 2) digital radio system is used to communicate two data streams at 2.048
Mbps (equivalent to 30 voice channels) between two stations.
The [ ]GHz 8 MB digital radio system is used to communicate one data stream at 8.448 Mbps
(equivalent to 120 voice channels) or four data streams at 2.048 Mbps (equivalent to 30 voice channels)
between two stations.
The [ ]GHz 17 MB (2 MB 8) digital radio system is used to communicate eight data streams at 2.048
Mbps (equivalent to 30 voice channels) between two stations.
The [ ]GHz 34 MB digital radio system is used to communicate one data stream at 34.368 Mbps
(equivalent to 480 voice channels) or sixteen (16) data streams at 2.048 Mbps (equivalent to 30 voice
channels) between two stations.
The system block diagrams of 2 MB 2, 2 MB 4, 2 MB 8 and 2 MB 16 systems are shown in Fig.
2-2, and that of 8 MB 1 and 34 MB 1 systems are shown in Fig. 2-3.

5.1.2 Controls, Indicators and Test Jacks
The test jack of the ODU is shown in Fig. 5-1. This function is described as follows:
RX LEV MON jack:
Gives access to monitoring receiving level voltage.
Provoded for transmission of OW signal between IDU and ODU when OW/RX LEV Monitor
and headset is connected.
The X0818A OW/RX LEV Monitor (optional) used for operation and maintenance is shown in Fig. 5-
2. The operation range of the OW/RX LEV Monitor is 0 C to +45 C. These function are desribed as
follows:
METER:
Indicates receiving RF level voltage.
OW indicator:
Lights when OW communication is performed (The OW ON-OFF switch is set to ON).
When the OW indicator is not lit even though OW switch is set to ON, replace the battery
(6F22(UB)/9V) since the battery becomes weak.
OW ON-OFF switch:
Enables to transmission OW signal between IDU and ODU. When the OW communication
is performed, OW ON-OFF switch is set to ON.
VOL control:
Enables to adjust receive OW voice level.
RX LEV/OW IN jack:
Supplied monitoring RX LEV voltage and OW signal from the ODU.
HEADSET jack:
Permits communication between IDU and ODU when orderwire headset is connected.

8. MAINTENANCE
This section provides instructions for periodic maintenance and corrective maintenance of the IDU.
Included is information on precautions, test equipment and accessories, periodic maintenance and
corrective maintenance.
8.1 Precautions
The following precautions must be carefully observed during maintenance.
Danger: The 43 V DC power is superimposed on the center conductor of the coaxial cable
between the IDU and ODU. Connecting a measurement set may damage that set
and touching the coaxial cable core may cause electrical shock. So, turn off power
switch on the IDU before connecting or disconnecting the coaxial cable between
the IDU and ODU.
Caution: To protect the internal circuits against electrostatic discharge, engineers are
requested to wear the wrist band and connect it to the frame ground for
Electrostatic Protection (ESP) before detaching the top cover (see Fig. 8-1).
Fig. 8-1 Location of ESP Button
(a) Before beginning maintenance, notify the opposite station that maintenance is about to begin.
(b) After equipment start-up, allow the equipment to warm up for at least 30 minutes.
(c) After completing the maintenance operation, restore all connections to normal.
(d) During maintenance, the IDU is set to maintenance condition using a PC as follows:
Caution: If Login is not posisible, check if settings of the communication format are proper.

8.4 Corrective Maintenance
In this paragraph, corrective maintenance in the field is described. Corrective maintenance in the field
covers fault isolation, replacement and alignment. The fault isolation procedures describes isolating
equipment-level faults without checking equipment. Therefore, if a ODU is faulty, it should be
replaced with a spare and aligned.
During corrective maintenance, carefully observe the precautions given in paragraph 8.1 until
alignment is completed.
8.4.1 Fault Isolation
Alarm conditions are identified through:
Red alarm LED indication on the IDU or
Notification from external equipment
During alarm conditions, red alarm LEDs on the IDU are lit except when there is a power supply
failure. Faults can be isolated using the LED indications. Table 8-4 provides information for isolating
faults at a station.

INSTALLATION ROI-S03423
2-10
3.2 ODU Mounting on Andrew Antenna
Procedure for mounting methot is as follows:
Factory setting of antenna is V polarization. When the H polarization is required, steps 1 to 5 of
procedure is performed.
Step 1. Remove the antenna radome.
LARGE O-RING
Note: In 18-38GHz band 2 O-rings are attached in Andrew direct mount antenna kit, large one
is used for ODU mounting and small one is used for only waveguide connection. 13 and
15GHz band antenna doesnt have small O-ring. (Small O-ring isnt used for Andrew
direct mount antenna.)
If the small O-ring is used for ODU direct mount installation, a gap occurs between
ODU and antenna for RF interface, because ODU has a small tab at RF interface and it
interfere to the small O-ring. Therefore it may happen transmit or receive level down.
SMALL O-RING
(ONLY FOR WAVEGUIDE
CONNECTION)
ANTENNA INTERFACE PORT
ROI-S03423 INSTALLATION
2-11
Step 3. Hold the antenna with your hand to rotate it by
90 degrees.
Step 4. Check the aperture part of the connection unit is
rotated by 90 degrees, the fix it with screws that
were loosened in step 2.
Step 5. Fix the radome that was removed in step 1.
Step 2. To rotate the antenna connection unit, keep the
antenna stand horizontally and loosen screws
with Allen wrench.
Note: Connection unit and radiator are integrated.
Do not keep the antenna aperture download
for working, or the radiator may drop or get
damaged.

Step 8. Mount the mount pivot plate with v-clamp to the pole.
Step 9. Tight M10 hex head screw with wrench to fix the plate.
Step 10. Mount the mounting bracket to the pivot plate mounted in step 8.
