PREFACE

Research report is an opportunity for the students to apply theoretical knowledge and to gain practical experience about public and private organizations and their practices and procedures. I chose to do my research report on HBL because of the fact that it is a part of the most successful organizational setup in the country and have had in recent years HBL has shown the will that it wants to stay the best bank in Pakistan with constant innovations in its services, and by making use of the emerging technologies. Research report is not sufficient to understand the operations of organizations. But still it was a great experience to have a feel of the practical world and keeping in view the limitations of the study, this seems a reasonable attempt. Working on HBL was a true learning experience for me. I have exclusively studied and observed the organizational structure, its departments and customer services.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Human Resource Management is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training. In order to introduce an appropriate cultural change for making the organization more competitive and capable of overcoming the emerging global challenges, I opted to carry out a research on HRM practices in realize that in order to overcome the challenges facing the banking industry in Pakistan, it has to restructure its resource practices. The banking industry was greatly affected by the revolutionary changes in the field of technology specially information technology. The introduction of computerization has made the banking very swift and somewhat so easy not only for the bankers but for the customers as well. But on the other hand it has also compelled them to be more dynamic and efficient. The introduction of online banking through satellite, telephone and Internet and installation of ATMs etc are some of the factors of these advancement. Now in such a high competitive environment only the efficient institutions can survive. The purpose of the study is to analyze the working of a truly modern bank, which was established in the lines of foreign banks. The analysis is done from various angles of derision levels, management levels, branch network and human resource management. The study of all these aspects would help in better understanding the HBL. This study emphasizes on HRM in HBL and the opportunities provided by the Bank for its staff to have a challenging and rewarding long-term career. The study is on the working of a specialized department i.e. credit department and studies that how the credit department performs its major duties of offering different financial facilities either fund based or non-fund based. The staff has to perform

this task under the strict watch of Head Office as well as SBP in the form of rules and regulation because deposition funds are at stake. The need of a prudent decision making arise here as almost every loan in initiated at branch level irrespective of the fact of decision level necessary for its approval. In this report a specific analysis of its credit portfolios management is done and in this analysis strategy for the resolution of the problems is identified.
