Welcome to the first installment of (Face) Booked, where we at DIGS take advantage of everyones favourite social network to interview a band weve booked for a DIGS gig. Or you could say a band who have been (Face)Booked (Ed only one sub-par pun per article, thanks). We get started with The Bear Beats Band, a motley crew of acoustic folksters based down the A55 in Denbighshire! Comprised of experienced musicians Lisa Boas, Skeet Williams, Oscar South and Will Owens, they create a beautiful sound that Where do you see yourselves a year from evokes wistful summers past that may well now? A large portion of this year so far has been spent touring the UK, and specifically the South & South West Theres no doubt we feel part of the larger Welsh music scene. BBC Radio Wales have been a massive supporter of us this year with lots of airplay, including giving us the honour of Single of the Week in August and a prestigious Live Session with Roy Noble on the station. Were certainly looking forward to playing the first DIGS show on home turf.

Walking amongst the ancient Scottish buildings, the feel of cobbled streets through my worn soles, I stumbled onto the Royal Mile and was astounded by the sight before me. Throngs of people milled through the streets - gathering around musicians, jugglers, dancers, actors and and a man weaving balloons into a giant dragon - whilst attempting to avoid the thousands of young and old, normal and bizarre, thrusting flyers, advertisements and brochures into their faces just as they were getting over the shock of a man hammering a nail into his nose. Disorientated by the streams of people, the smell of battered, deep fried pizza and a statue springing to life before my eyes I realised that I had truly arrived at the worlds largest arts festival.

Mastering the UK
Masters In France serve up a slice of rock swagger so perfect that its hard to believe that it wasnt baked to your Nans secret recipe! Having already been branded the best thing out of Bangor since the A55 (Ed a serious achievement that, everyone knows that the 55 is Wales premier A road) these lads are riding high and as they gear up to the release of their EP Inhale this September they dont look likely to be coming back down anytime soon. Here we catch up with Mat Ellis Sayer to find out a bit more about the boys, their music and the future! Your long-awaited first EP Inhale is due for release on the 19th of September, having released a clutch of singles already this year how differently do you view this? Is this more of a statement of intent? Itll be nice to get it out, weve been looking forward to getting the album recorded and released, and the EP is one step closer, its a preview of what to expect on the album. The announcement of the release of Inhale coincided with your announcement that youd decided to release the track Control as a free download, what fuelled this decision? We gave Control away as a free download because it didnt make it onto the EP, it was a little gift for our fans, it was only available to the first 200 downloaders, so it might still have a chance of making it on the album, well see how it goes. Having formed in Caernarfon/Bangor and then recorded Inhale in Ferlas Studios North Wales, do you feel that North Wales has had an influence on the band and its sound? North Wales has been an influence on us and who we are, I dont think that there is a typical sound that comes through in the tracks that you could call North Wales though. Are you looking forward to getting out on the road for your UK tour this September? Do you find that the tracks evolve more once youre on the road or do you think theyre the finished article once theyve been laid down in the studio?

We cant wait for the gigs, thats what its all about. Going out and playing music to a crowd of 10, or to a crowd of a1,000. All the promo work, and doing what a label would do gets boring, but if it means we can go out on the road, play a gig hundreds of miles away and have a laugh as a band, its all worth the effort. We like to change things round a bit for the live tracks, not too much, it doesnt sound like space jazz after a tour, just little things that make it interesting for us and the crowd.
If you havent already, head over to myspace.com/mastersinfrance to have a listen (Ed recommends: Greyhounds @ R1s Big Weekend) and find out more about their upcoming UK tour, including the DIGS launch event on September 30th! Check out their impressive reviews from NME, Kerrang to Radio 1s Fearne Cotton & Greg James.
