PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP: Member SAICE (South African Institute Civil Engineers) Member ECSA (Engineering Council South Africa) Member WISA (Water Institute Southern Africa) Member IWA (International Water Association) Inspector of water care works (Class 5) with Department of Water Affairs and Forestry PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE November 1998 Current Managing an independent service, Dikubu Water and Environmental Services cc, as an alliance with the former Wates, Meiring and Barnard (Pty) Ltd group of companies, now Golder Associates Africa, providing support for domestic and industrial water treatment applications. These services include all aspects related to supporting water care facilities and environmental services, including: Identifying suitable technology that can be applied to domestic and industrial water applications. Assistance with the commissioning and start-up of processes. Monitoring of process performances and the establishment of operating and maintenance schedules. Training applications for all levels of staffing involved in the management of water care facilities, from site attendants, process controllers, supervisors and managers. Preparation and submission of EIA documentation for listed activities relating to mining operations Preparation of water balances for mining water circuits Establishment of water strategy documents for mining operations June 1990 November 1998 Member of the Anglo American Central Technical Office based at head office in Marshalltown, Johannesburg. Responsibilities included the monitoring and management of all domestic water care facility operations on behalf of the various operating divisions, Gold, Coal, Base Metals and Diamonds. Envirolink, the Anglo environmental support team, was developed within Anglo to provide environmental solutions to all operating companies and divisions. Duties were extended to include the monitoring of mine discard facilities, water pollution monitoring, water balance implementation and waste management while contributing to the implementation and auditing of ISO 14000 systems. January 1984 May 1990 Background experience was gained with consulting civil engineering firms, inter alia Ninham Shand, Hawkins Hawkins & Osborn and De Leeuw Cather in the township services field, with emphasis placed on both the design of roads, water and sewerage reticulation as well as the on-site project management of the construction phase of township development projects. Studies in water loss and unaccounted for water within the Johannesburg metropolitan area were also completed during this period.
