Lance Lamberton, who has been an Austell resident for over 10 years, announced today that he has qualified with City of Austell so that he may appear on the ballot as a candidate in the November 8, 2011 municipal election in Austell, Georgia. He will be running for City Council, Ward 4. Austell is an affordable place to live and work, conveniently located close to one of the great metropolitan areas of the country, Lamberton said. Unfortunately, I believe it has lost its focus over the past few years, and is no longer the thriving community that it once was, and that it can and should be. Surely we can do better, Lamberton said. With a fresh set of eyes on the issues facing my community, I believe we can come up with ways to revitalize it, and I look forward to working with the Mayor and City Council to make that happen. First and foremost among his efforts to revitalize the City of Austell is to review all city ordinances and codes, with the purpose of eliminating and/or revising those which serve as impediments to economic growth. Former Congressman from Cobb County, Bob Barr, enthusiastically endorsed Lamberton's bid for City Council. According to Barr, Lance Lamberton has been an effective taxpayer activist in local politics for several years, and provided outstanding leadership in opposing this year's Cobb County SPLOST. If elected, he would be the Austell taxpayer's best friend. Therefore, I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy. The former chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, and current candidate for that position, Bill Byrne, has also endorsed Lamberton for City Council. In endorsing Lamberton, Byrne said: We are at time where personal uncertainty dominates the feelings of people across our Country, our County and Cobb's six cities. We need decision makers, with proven, fiscally conservative values, managing our city governments and Lance Lamberton is one of those people. Therefore, I strongly support his campaign for City Council in Austell and urge all voters within Austell's fourth Ward to vote for him. Current City Councilman, Martin Standard, who represents Austell's third Ward, has also endorsed Lamberton for Council. I am gratified and encouraged that three outstanding current and former elected officials have chosen to endorse my candidacy. I will do everything in my power to earn their trust, Lamberton said. Lance Lamberton is the president and founder of the Cobb Taxpayers Association, which was established in 2005 to restore a higher level of accountability in local and county government, and consequently, opposed the 2005 and 2011 Cobb County SPLOST, and is on record as opposing the 2012 TransportationSPLOST. He also opposed the recently enacted 16.7% millage rate increase passed in July by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. As City Councilman, I will insist that Austell live within its means, and be a voice for the taxpayer...to indeed be the taxpayers best friend, Lamberton said. After all, let's not forget who pays the bills for government services. It is the taxpayer, and it is to their interests that I will serve.
