Achieving a highly effective ESD programme

A 2 day ESD course for people who need to understand and implement an ESD programme ESD coordinators Quality engineers Production engineers

Day 1 The Principles of ESD Prevention and Control Session 1 & 2. Why do we need ESD prevention? Planning the effective ESD control programme The seven habits of a highly effective ESD programme Day 2 Practical ESD Programme Assessment and Measurements Session 3: ESD programme measurements and test methods Session 4. Assessing the ESD programme with the checks and tests and auditing

Overview:

Day 1: The Principles of ESD Prevention and Control

The first day uses practical demonstrations of static electricity and ESD issues, with the emphasis on understanding why the 7 Habits are necessary, and the reality of static and ESD. It shows how 61340-5-1 and ESD S20:20 standards implement the seven habits of a highly effective ESD Programme.

Day 2: Practical ESD Programme Assessment and Measurements

The second day focuses on delegates gaining hands-on practical experience of measurements and assessment of ESD prevention equipment and program.

Exclude all non-essential insulating materials from the EPA Questions and discussion lunch The seven habits of a highly effective ESD program - continued This session discusses and demonstrates the remaining habits of a highly effective ESD program. Habit 3. Ground all conductors, especially the human body Habit 4. Treat essential insulators according to the risk coffee Habit 5. Protect ESDS outside the EPA using appropriate ESD packaging Habit 6. Train people so that they understand ESD, know what to do and what equipment to use Habit 7. Check, test and audit to make sure its still working Discussion & Questions end Relax and enjoy your evening!

3. Session 4 Checking and audit

The first half consists of a general introduction to writing, checking and auditing an ESD Program using the new 61340-5-1:2007 standard. After the break the delegates will be organised into 2 groups. One group will examine and audit a workstation, using the checklists and available equipment as appropriate. Meanwhile the second group will examine example ESD Program documentation for Compliance with the 61340-5-1:2007 standard. The detailed activity plan may be subject to change on the day. This will be a group exercise in writing an ESD Program Plan document in accordance with 61340-5-1:2007

3.2.

Checking compliance of ESD documentation

The ESD Program of our (fictitious!) Reliability Ltd electronics workshop has been provided check it for compliance against the new 61340-5-1:2007 using the checklist of Sec. 12.

3.3.

Auditing a workstation

The workstation gives us a snapshot of ESD prevention at the (fictitious!) Reliability Ltd electronics workshops. Run through your checks in the handout ESD Program Plan and see what you can find.
