the persona observes what he sees in the family in a ood-ridden village.

Moral Values: *be positive when facing problems * be grateful & contented with what you have *remain hopeful in the midst of hardship

*Contrast -1st stanza: line 1-5: detail the familys physical state after spending a day & night wading through oodwater. line 6-7: in spite their injuries, they do not show sadness or sign of losing hopes.

Comprehension Questions: 1) In stanza 1, to whom does the word they specically refer to? 2) Briey describe how the people are suffering while out in the rain. 3) What does the last line of the stanza 1, there was not a sign of despair tell you about the people? 4) What word or phrase tells you that they are used to this hardship and do not consider it a problem? 5) What do you think is the peoples attitude towards life? 6) Describe in one sentence mans relationship with Nature as shown in the poem. 7) The poet uses the element of contrast again in stanza 2 & 3. Describe it. 8) When faced with hard times, do you face it the same way the family in the poem does? What is your own attitude towards hard times?
