OFAD HAS BACK TO BACK STANDING ROOM ONLY MEETING One of the hottest Democratic party clubs in Harris

County, the Oak Forest Area Democrats continued to pack their members and guests in for not just the results of their 2011 Municipal Election results but also to hear their prestigious Guest Speakers for the evening. Club President Susan Graham called the meeting to order and soon she and VicePresident Zeph Capo kicked things off by letting both Houston's 2011 city election candidates and the 2012 Democratic Party Primary candidates in the house introduce themselves. Houston's At Large Councilwomen Melissa Noriega and Jolanda "Jo" Jones both Special Guests gave thanks to the club members for their endorsement prior to tonight's meeting and each vowed continued representation for the Oak Forest area, Headlining the Special Guest Speakers was the most popular Sylvester "Sly" Turner, State Representative of the 139th District. Rep. Turner received several rounds of applause as he's so capable of doing with his "preacher" style hard hitting presentation of several key issues important to Democrats. Turner said he's sick and tired of hearing Governor Perry say how much he dislikes government but the truth is Perry has been dependant on government and taxpayers all of his adult life. He said for 25 years now Perry has let taxpayers money pay for his food, clothes, gas, utility bills and everything else and when Perry started his "government career" he hadn't any money but now he's a millionaire. Turner went on to say if Perry was all that much against government as he claims then why don't he quit and begin paying his own personal expenses like the rest of us by means other than taxpayers money. Finally Turner said the 2012 election wasn't about him nor was it about Obama and when he thinks of his mother at age 82 and his daughter he soon realizes the election is more about them than either he or Obama, " it's their future I'm concerned for" he hammered, and "other older folks and children this next election's about". When Turner finished he received a much deserved long loud standing ovation.

OFAD member Carl Whitmarsh remoinded everyone he remembers back in 1974 when Representative Turner started as Secretary of the Harris County Demoratic Party Carl then announced next month's planned guests will be Mayor Annise Parker along with Senator John Whitmire Dean of the Senate from the "fighting 15th" District. Then came the results of the OFAD endorsement decisions. Guest Speaker, the Honorable Sylvester "Sly" Turner, State Representative District 139 and as no one else can he gave a rousing motivational talk, stressing his point for the need of Democrats to work harder than ever to get out their votes in 2012. Rep. Turner pointed out there's a tie needing to be broken, he said Democrats won in 2008 and then Republicans won in 2010 but the 2012 elections will break the tie and Democrats can win if they'll work for it. He emphasized the stakes are high for many American's regardless of political party affiliation and folks will be hurt should Democrats lose.

Special Guest Councilwoman Melissa Noriega, At Large Position 3 thanks OFAD for their endorsement and continued support and points out that this is her "old stomping grounds".

Special Guest Councilwoman Jolanda "JO" Jones, At Large Position 5 tells OFAD members she'll continue to be a spokesperson for the citizens and openly oppose wrongs she sees in city government.
