%ree new cannels were introduced
To implement the HSDPA Ieature, three new channels are introduced in the
physical layer speciIications:
High-Speed Physical Downlink Shared Channel (HS-DSCH) carries
the user data in the downlink direction.
High-Speed Shared Control Channel (HS-SCCH) carries the necessary
physical layer control inIormation to enable decoding oI the data on HS-
DSCH.
Uplink High-Speed Dedicated Physical Control Channel (HS-
DPCCH) carries the necessary control inIormation in the uplink.

Hig speed cannels advantages Hig speed cannels advantages

high-speed Physical Downlink Shared Channel (HS-DSCH) :
This new channel has speciIic characteristics in many ways compared with existing
channels in Release `99:
Shorter TT, Transmission Time Interval, which has been deIined to be ms to
achieve a shorter round trip delay Ior the operation between the terminal and Node-B
Ior retransmissions, and it`s shorter compared to the ~10, 0, 40 or 80 ms TTI sizes
which supported in Release `99.
Adding a higher order modulation scheme, 16 QA.
ulticode transmission : 5, 10, or 15 codes, depending on the terminal (UE)
capability.

High-speed shared control channel HS-SCCH:
By listening to these control channels, the UEs will receive inIormation during
the call and know which data packets, which have been sent on an HS-
PDSCH, belong to which mobile.

#etransmission in H8DPA #etransmission in H8DPA

#etransmission from NodeB instead of #NC: #etransmission from NodeB instead of #NC:
In Release 99 there is no diIIerence in physical layer operation, regardless oI whether the
packet is a retransmission or a new packet.
With HSDPA the packet is Iirst received in the buIIer
in the NodeB, then the NodeB keeps the packet in the
buIIer even iI has sent it to the user and, in case oI
packet decoding Iailure, retransmission automatically
takes places Irom the base station without RNC
involvement.
Also HSDPA is using new retransmission technique
~HA#Q ~HA#Q Hybrid ARQ, by which the receiver store
the erroneous block, iI it`s detected, without discarding
it, and request the NodeB Ior retransmission, then it
combines the received re-transmission with previously
received transmission

ast time Scheduling: ast time Scheduling:
Scheduling determines which user shall be transmitted, between the users
depending on the users needs and the link CQI.
Scheduler may be based on:
Channel condition (CQI)*.
Amount oI data waiting in the queue (delay).
Fairness between users to make all oI them
satisIied as possible as can.
Cell throughput.
* The CQI is the channel quality indicator,
which represents the uplink Ieedback inIormation,
and it`s carried on the HS-DPCCH.

Mobility Management Mobility Management

HSDPA does not use soft handover, since HS-DSCH and HS-SCCH
transmission take place only Irom a single cell, called the serving HS-DSCH
cell`.
The RNC determines the serving HS-DSCH cell Ior the active HSDPA UE,
and this serving HS-DSCH cell is one oI the cells which in the UE`s active set.
The serving HS-DSCH cell may be changed without updating the user`s
active set.
An HS-DSCH serving cell change is typically based on measurement reports
Irom the UE.
3GPP Release 5 includes a new measurement procedure, using the '1D event
to inIorm the RNC oI the best serving HS-DSCH cell.
Serving HS-DSCH cell change can be through intra-Node B or Inter-Node B
HS-DSCH to HS-DSCH handover.
Inter-Irequency handovers with compressed mode measurements are also
supported Ior HSDPA users.

The serving RNC makes the handover decisions directly based on the measurement
which reported by the UE.
A measurement event 1d` has been deIined, which is called the measurement event for
best serving HS-DSCH cell.
This measurement reports the CPICH EcN0 oI the best cell.
Usage oI a hysteresis margin to avoid Iast change in the serving HS-DSCH cell is
possible Ior this measurement event.
As well as speciIication oI a cell-individual oIIset (CIO) to Iavor certain cells, Ior
instance, to extend their HSDPA coverage area.
Note.
` Actually 1d event is already deIined in R99: (Event 1d, Change oI Best Cell)
When any (Active Set, onitored set, and Detected) cell becomes stronger than
the best cell+hysteresis1d / 2 in the Active Set, during a time at least equal to
timeToTrigger1d ,event 1d occurs.

Once the serving RNC decides to make an intra-Node B handover Irom a source
HS-DSCH cell to a new target HS-DSCH cell under the same Node B, the serving
RNC sends a synchronized Radio link reconIiguration Radio link reconIiguration prepare message to the Node Node
BB, as well as a radio resource control (RRC RRC) physical channel reconIiguration reconIiguration
message message to the user user.
At a speciIied time index where the handover Irom the source cell to the new target
cell is carried out the source cell stops transmitting source cell stops transmitting to the user, and the AC-hs
packet scheduler in the target cell target cell is thereaIter allowed to control transmission to transmission to
the user the user.
Similarly, the terminal starts to listen to
the HS-SCCH Irom the new target cell,
'the new serving HS-DSCH cell.
All the PDUs Ior the user are moved
Irom the AC-hs in the old source cell
to the AC-hs in the target cell during
the HS-DSCH handover..

Here, the new target cell is under another Node B, and potentially might be under
another RNC.
Once the serving RNC decides to initiate such a handover, a synchronized Radio Radio
link reconIiguration prepare message link reconIiguration prepare message is sent to the driIting RNC RNC and the Node B Node B
that controls this target cell, as well as a radio resource control (RRC RRC) physical
channel reconIiguration message reconIiguration message to the user user.
At the time, the cell change is implemented,
the AC-hs Ior the user in the old source old source
cell is reset cell is reset, which basically means that all
buIIered PDUs Ior the user are deleted,
including the pending PDUs in the hybrid
ARQ manager.
At the same time index, the Ilow control
unit in the AC-hs in the target cell starts
to request PDUs Irom the AC-d in the
serving RNC, so that it can start to transmit
data on the HS-DSCH to the user.

Handover Irom an HS-DSCH to DCH may potentially be needed Ior
HSDPA users that are moving Irom a cell with HSDPA to a cell without
HSDPA (Release `99).
Once the serving RNC decides to initiate such a handover, a synchronised
radio link reconIiguration prepare message is sent to the involved Node Bs,
as well as a radio resource control (RRC) physical channel reconIiguration
message to the user.
In a similar way to the inter-Node B HS-DSCH to HS-DSCH handover, the
HS-DSCH to DCH handover results in a reset oI the PDUs in AC-hs in
the source cell, which subsequently requires recovery via higher layer
retransmissions such as, Ior instance, RLC retransmissions.

This handover type may, Ior instance, be used iI a user is moving Irom a
non-HSDPA-capable cell into an HSDPA-capable cell, or to optimize the
load balance between HSDPA and DCH use in a cell.
