Emulation Pages: 1, 2 Strike Jul 9 2005, 02:17 PM i downloaded pokemon emerald (U), i've beaten the game, you know when it saves the game in the hall of fame just before the ending credits, after that when i reset the emulator it says the save file has been erased due to corrupt data or damage or something like that on the 'new game' screen, it doesn't say continue game. But i used the emulator save feature to reload the game just before it uses the pokemon save thing in the hall of fame it saves, but the damaged save file thing still comes up. I use vba i Shinobi Jul 13 2005, 01:52 PM i have the same problem too. im trying to find patches, but it hasnt worked so far. i had the same problem with ruby, so i got a patch, and it worked. but it isnt the same so the patch didnt work for emerald. Strike Jul 16 2005, 09:22 AM please tell me if you fix the problem or find a patch Shinobi Jul 17 2005, 02:29 PM ive found a patch, but i'll need to wait until i've beaten the E4 to find out. ill do it ASAP selenity Jul 17 2005, 04:55 PM man...you're not the only one who has the save corruption problem. I tried it using a different version of emerald (different file type from someone else) and it has the ips file. So i checked everything (the flash 128k, auto, auto-ips file) that i know of, transfer the save slate to that game and it still says "save file was erased due to damange or corruption". unless one of you knows how to use or do an ips file, please tell me since i haven't heard of it until today. just new to this sort of thing... Shinobi Jul 17 2005, 06:49 PM ive got an ips patch, and it still doesnt work. it still says it after beating the E4. sorry guys. it isnt working. i dont know why because it worked fine with ruby. amaravati Jul 18 2005, 02:15 PM A much easier method to continue past the Elite 4 is save a state in VBA before the E4 or preferably just before the final battle with Wallace While playing the game delete the .SAV file from the VBA folder Because once you beat Wallace, the Emulator creates a brand new .SAV file which (after the Hall Of Fame messages and the end credits) puts you back in your bedroom in

Littleroot and keeps ALL (yes, all) of your badges, pokedex, items, etc. ~joenumpty OR if you are just starting a new game do the following 1. Make sure you have a clean, unpatched, untampered Pokemon Emerald ROM (there is a program called GBA Tool Advance that lets you check the file signature). The CRC for Emerald should be 1F1C08FBh 2. Load Visual Boy Advance (preferably version 1.7.2) without loading the ROM 3. Use this setting for Emerald Options > Emulator > Save Type > Flash 128K 4. Turn on the Real Time Clock by going through Options > Emulator > Real Time Clock 5. Load Pokemon Emerald Shinobi Jul 18 2005, 03:21 PM that sounds like it will work. ive saved it half way thru wallace, so hopefully it will work. thanks very much edit: no, it doesnt work. Strike Jul 20 2005, 06:38 PM I know how to do it now, and I will gladley help you all out. I posted it on another board. I'll just quote that post, I've had the same problems, but this solution is guranteed to work (if you do it properly) QUOTE Pokemon Emerald (U) - Hall Of Fame Save Problem [SOLUTION - No Patch Needed] I've seem to have got around the problem some how, heres what happened. Like some of you I had problems continuing the game after I beat the Elite 4, I tried some of the suggestions but when I switched over to save as 128k it still saved as 64k, this should help you fix this and continue the game. After the save in the Hall of Fame, a message came up saying the Save File is corrupted and his been erased. But luckily I saved a VBA state just before it Saved, I hope you have to or this will not work. Anyway if you have, heres what to do; Go to the folder of the rom, delete the SAV file, Start up VBA (I use 1.8.0 beta) go to Options > Emulator > Real Time Clock, this resolves the time based events problem. Now go to Options > Emulator > Save Type > Flash 128k, mine was set on 64k before. | Now load the Pokmon Emerald (U) Rom, there should be no error messages at the start since you got rid of the SAV file in that folder. Start a new game. At the point where you have freedom to move around Hit Start and save the game,

and then hit CTRL + R to Reset. Check your folder where the rom is located again and confirm that the SAV file is now 128k and not 64k. Now load your VBA state (Again, mine was set just before it saves in the Hall of Fame), let it everything happen as normal, after the ending credits hit CTRL + R on your keyboard to Reset (if it doesn't do so itself after 'THE END' screen - a commen problem experienced in VBA Ver. 1.8.0 BETA), go to the folder of your rom again to confirm that the SAV file is still 128k. Now when the Main Screen comes up a message saying "The save file is corrupted, the previous one will be loaded" that isn't exactly what it says but its something like that. And thats it, you will be upstairs in your bedroom. Go down stairs to find out your the new Champion. When your outside Save the game, reset your emulator and there will be no error messages, this may sound weird but it actually did work, somehow. This Has Nothing To Do With Using The IPS Patch People Are Talking About, I Haven't Used It Myself.

***EDIT*** - After you change the settings to real time clock and the save thing to 128k. Close the VBA emulator and then open it again, then proceed with the next instruction. i've put this: | red mark in the text for when you need to close and open it again PocketMonsters Jul 21 2005, 03:32 AM ^^ your instructions worked for the most part. but see im using Pokemon fire red and it doesnt save before the credits after u beat E4. but i notice that if i take out the sav. file it will save when i start a new game...but not from my saved state "right before i fight the rival" does anyone know how to get around this??? Niceguy Jul 21 2005, 02:40 PM Strike your solution didn't work for me, i setted the real time clock and the save to 128. then i quit the VBA and start again, i start a new game and saved it, the save was 128K, but when i go back to the hall of famous and when saving the game, the SAV file go back to 64K again, and when i do reset i got erased file again. (sry if you can't understand it, i'm DUTCH, and my english is terrible). hope you got a solution therefor Niceguy Strike Jul 21 2005, 03:04 PM Your english is good (Well, from what i've seen). You are using a unpatched version of emerald right? And what version of VBA are you using? Edit This might be it, Go to Options > Emulators and make sure all these following options are unchecked: Use BIOS file and Skip BIOS file. Then try the instructions again

Niceguy Jul 21 2005, 04:28 PM i'm using VBA 1.80 beta like u, and yes both bios settings are unchecked, and still the same problem and what does automatic ips patching means? i saw it on emulator... Strike Jul 21 2005, 04:40 PM If you have an IPS patch for Emerald in this folder then it automatically applies it to the Rom. Well I'm out of ideas.... Niceguy Jul 21 2005, 04:47 PM well, so the only solution is to start playing the game again? and now new game,,, my SAV file is 128 now. and strike, you're sure i won't get the same problem later? Strike Jul 21 2005, 05:41 PM I have an idea, if you send me your Save State file through me to E-mail, i'll do it for you and put it up for you to download. Tell me if you're intrested PocketMonsters Jul 22 2005, 03:04 AM would u be able to help me also spike? Niceguy Jul 22 2005, 09:25 AM well, ok, strike, but wouldn't it be easier with msn or something, just a chatprogram, and we could talk inmediatly. i will give you my msn address on the mail, or you just give yours here... Strike Jul 22 2005, 03:05 PM QUOTE(Strike @ Jul 21 2005, 05:41 PM) I have an idea, if you send me your Save State file through me to E-mail, i'll do it for you and put it up for you to download. Yes I can help you too. My MSN and E-mail are both: strike.1@gmail.com (Oh and Niceguy, your PM doesn't appear to have any Save State or a link in it) Niceguy Jul 22 2005, 06:49 PM

ok, last question strike, if my SAV file is 128 kb, then i can play the game without any problems later on the game? Strike Jul 22 2005, 08:05 PM Yes. I noticed you've asked me that already, sorry for the late reply. PocketMonsters Jul 25 2005, 04:51 PM did u get my email strike? davlim Jul 28 2005, 01:56 PM Solution found without starting new game. Before you fight the last boss 1. change your setting to flash 64. Save you game using the start and save which is in the actual game. This should create a save file which is 64. Repeat the above steps using 128. Your save file should now be 128 If this is correct then you can now defeat the last boss. It seems that the 64 to 128 works, but you must first save under 64 first. I opened a previously saved game that was saved using 64 and it seems that the conversion cannot be done instantaneously. For the save to work you have to tell the game that you want to save using 128. Please tell me if you have problems Using VBA 1.7.2 with link Sorry, if you already defeated the last boss, this will not work. You have to be able to save. Khalid Jul 28 2005, 06:16 PM Work great thanks, I didnt want to start again. davlim Jul 29 2005, 04:07 AM Good to see that my post helped. Gotten worried this thread was dead. zidane15601 Jul 29 2005, 05:20 AM ok, can we just kill all these damned pokemon threads... there are pokemon boards that deal with this.. this is for gba emulation... not figuring out how to play/beat/work around pokemon... thank you... N8er1017 Aug 6 2005, 09:07 AM

Ooooh, pissy. Pokemon's a classic, one of the few games actually worth playing on Gameboy. Plus, this is how to get around a VisualBoy problem (saving), not Pokemon. computermaster Aug 7 2005, 08:45 AM thanks strike your method seems to work for me . If it doestnt work the first time then switch it back to 64k then 128 N8er1017 Aug 10 2005, 10:47 PM Strange, beating the champion worked for me the first time, but didn't work after that. Pissed me off, I ended up having to start over quite a ways back, but otherwise it's fine. If none of that works for you, I recomment saving your state right before you fight or beat the champion, and maybe once you'll catch some luck and it'll save correctly... By the way, anyone know where I can catch Dratini in Emerald? Strike Aug 12 2005, 06:13 AM QUOTE(PocketMonsters @ Jul 25 2005, 04:51 PM) did u get my email strike?

you guys better help me cause i registered just to post these two verry easy questions. 1. im dutch, so i only know that emerald exists for a short time. i can't stop playing saphire, i'f started a new game and stuf, but i'd like to play emerald to. this may sound stupid, but where can you download it ? 2. does that real time clock setting allow you to grow berries, go to rooftop sales and stuff like that ?

hope you can help me. Your first post and you start by begging for ROMs. Should have read the rules. Goodbye! -HiVE Tails338 Oct 2 2005, 09:08 PM i'd say yes for the #2 question, it should work fine for it, as for a 100% answer....couldnt say anyhitng about 100% yet, as i never loaded any of the ruby/red leaf/green/ and emeralds to my gba yet axipher Oct 11 2005, 01:00 AM im not sur wat this topic is totally about, but i defeated the Elite Four on fire red, i couldnt save in game so i was usin the save state, but after the credits finished and i pressed A after THE END appeared, the screen went black and i couldnt continue, luckily i saved a stae rite b4 i entered the elite four, can anyone help me P.S.: im ENGLISH... lol, no offence meant PRprince Feb 7 2006, 02:09 AM sorry for the late help but i just saw this right now and actualy became a member just 2 help u guys out. i hope this helps everyone for gba games i recomment using vba7.2 . it has a feature that automatically patches roms for ya. but it needs to be avtivated by going to options>emulator> then making sure the 'automatically ips patching'' has a check next to it. once thats done you need to make sure thats the patch file is the same as the rom ex: ROM-NAME.ips i personally rename my roms to something simple, but u dont have to do this.

once the emu is set to patch automaticaly and u rename the patch to be the same name as the rom, u should be set. IF YOU STILL HAVE ANY PROBLEMS : make a new folder and dump the rom, emulator with auto patching(vba), and the reNamed patch all at same time into the folder, then open as normal but u most likely wont have to do that. any probplems u can email me PRprince@gmail.com arnout Mar 13 2006, 04:23 PM hi, i've got the same problem with fire red, but could you give me ONE good explanation how to friggin get this game to save, without starting over again? i already sended my .sav game to strike, but this i al old topic, so i hope he is still there shadow87 Apr 6 2006, 09:10 AM Hi everyone, I am new to this forum hope I can fit in with you all. Edit: It seems that i fixed it...sorry for the trouble guys and thanks for those who thought of the way of fixing this...Anyway, there is another question bothering me, since now my save file is a Flash 128K type, should i change it back to Flash 64K type?
