Firecel Safety Cables
Low Smoke - Zero Halogen
Over the last 25 years CAVICEL has
developped a deep experience in studying,
designing and manufacturing cables that
exceed the extreme conditions that can
occur during a fire.
FIRECEL are a comprehensive range of cables
properly designed to assure the best
performances in the event of a fire.
They can provide the ideal solution for all
electrical connections, as cables are
manufactured with different insulations and
constructions, in order to fit all the
performances required.
Depending on the type of cable, FIRECEL cables:
Guarantee Resistance During a Fire
Minimize the Emission of Toxic
Fumes and Smoke
Do Not Emit Corrosive Gases
Allow People to a Rapid Evacuation
Assure the Operation of Emergency
Systems

2
Quality System
Certification
FIRECEL cables are manufactured under an approved Quality
System according to ISO 9001, certified by CSQ (Italy) and
LPCB (UK).

Mark
FIRECEL cables comply with the essential safety requirements
of the low voltage directive, 72/23/EEC as amended by
90/683/EEC (not applicable to coax cable).

Commitment
C AVICEL goes on evaluating new materials and design
solutions, in order to follow customers’ needs.
Our people are aware that performances of cable must
always improve, and we are studying now new solutions for
tomorrow.

Flame Retardant Test

on Bunched Cables

IEC 60332-3,
BS 4066 Part 3
This flame test evaluates the non propagation of fire of a
bunch of cables. The test samples comprise a number of
pieces of cable each 3.5 m long, in order to have the
required quantity of combustible material per metre of
mounted cables. The cables are installed in a metal
cabinet, and are subjected to burning by a horizontal
flame for a specified time. The cables must not burn for
more than 2.5 m from the bottom of the burner.

BS 6724
In a 3 m cube metal cabinet samples of cables are burned by
100 cm3 of alcohol contained in a metal tray. A photometric
system is based on a light source and a photocell placed
horizontally in the mid vertical plane of the cube, at height of
2.15 m. Absorbance or light transmittance are verified as

Toxicity Index

NES 713 - CEI 20-37/7

NFX 70-100 - UTE 020-454
This test comprises the analysis of noxious gas emissions in
case of fire. Sample of insulating materials are burned in a
tubular oven and the gases emitted during combustion are
detected and collected in order to determine the quantities
of gases most frequently met with, such as carbon
monoxide, carbon dioxide, halogen acids, sulphur dioxide,
nitric oxide, etc. The quantities are then compared with
concentration limits, in order to obtain a conventional toxicity
index (normally ≤1.5).

Smoke Corrosivity

CEI 20-37 - IEC 60754

BS 6425 - EN 50267
This test allows estimation of corrosiveness against metals of
products released when cables burn. Sample of non-metallic
materials are burned in a tubular oven and the gases evolved
during combustion are collected into wash bottles. The
analysis of the solution contained in the bottles allows the
quantity of corrosive gases to be determined.
Corrosivity can be checked either through the amount of HCl
evolved per gram of sample, or through pH and conductivity
of test solution.

Fire Resistant
Fibre Optic Cables
According to IEC 60331-25, these cables are tested to withstand a fire up
to 950 °C for 3 hours.
The constructions proposed contain up to 24 fibres (single tube) or 144
fibres (multiloose tube).
These cables are used for data transmission, TVCC, process control when
advantages given by optical fibres are required. Besides fire resistance, they
ensure outstanding flame retardant property with a reduced quantity of
smoke evolved during combustion.
These cables are available both with singlemode (SM) and multimode fibres.
