INTRODUCTION:A new technique which lets scientists see our brain waves at work could revolutionize our understanding of the human bodys most complex organ and help transform the lives of people suffering from schizophrenia and ADHD. Although scientifically, the brain is the most studied organ in our body we still know relatively little about it. But that could all change as a result of this research led by Dr Matt Brookes in the Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre at The University of Nottingham. Using a relatively new neuronimaging technique called magneto encephalography (MEG) which measures electrical signals from the brain and a combination of new mathematical techniques scientists have found a non-invasive way to harness the rich, dynamic nature of brain signals, not just to identify the existence of brain networks, but also to probe the subtle electrical processes associated with brain activity. Neuroimaging technique is used to measure brain activity in distributed processing networks, to see the communication between separate brain regions. Accurate communication across the brain is integral to the way in which we function as human beings. Disturbed communication is indicative of disease. Therefore, the
2

study of these brain networks is a highly important area of research. The most studies of networks have used functional MRI (FMRI), a technique which is based on magnetic resonance imaging and detects changes in blood flow brought about by changes in brain activity. However, the blood flow response that it measures is an indirect consequence of electrical function in brain cells and it is this electrical function which is of greater interest as it is the driving force behind communication in the brain.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS TECHNOLOGY:1. Researchers have pinpointed the brain regions that enable people to recognize their body as their own, one of the most fundamental aspects of selfawareness. 2. Understanding the mechanisms underlying the selfattribution of a body in the healthy brain can help in developing better diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to address pathological disturbances of bodily self-perception. 3. Now we can begin to unravel the mystery of how genes rearrange the brain's circuitry not only in autism but in many related neurological disorders. 4. Using this technology, we can show which parts of the brain are activated and precisely when they are
3

activated as subjects move in a natural environment. For example, when we walk signals originate in specific parts of the brain as messages travel from the brain to the muscles. When we understand where in the brain impulses occur, we can use that geographic information for many different applications.

DISADVANTAGES OF THIS TECHNOLOGY:1. Although the strong magnetic field is not harm ful Itself, implanted medical devices that contain metal may malfunction or cause problems during an MRI exam. 2.There is a very slight risk of an allergic reaction if contrast material is injected. Such reactions usually are mild and easily controlled by medication. 3. The presence of an implant or other metallic object sometimes makes it difficult to obtain clear images and patient movement can have the same effect.

VIEWS ABOUT THIS TECHNOLOGY:1. By this research we can come to know about many brain diseases, we can find cure of those diseases and save many peoples life. 2. We can understand human bodies most complex organs.

3. This research tells about the communication of different parts of brain. If we understood this communication then we can create vast methods of communication in real life. 4. This technique can help us in making robots also.
