Wetland Walk Tuesday, November 1 - 12:45 p.m. King Campus Meet in front of Student Services

Learn about amazing biodiversity on King Campus. Students will discover the intricacies of wetlands, paying special attention to bird, insect and plant life often overlooked. Bring comfortable shoes and your camera! This approximately one hour workshop will run rain or shine!
Loving the Spotlight - How to be a Better Speaker and Presenter Tuesday, November 1 11:40 a.m. Markham Campus M570 Public speaking is, for many, one of the most uncomfortable (and in some cases terrifying) things that can be faced. However, like any task, you have the ability to improve if you adopt an effective, systematic approach to putting your presentations together and delivering them. This presentation will take you through ten steps that will help you create and deliver more effective presentations, and do so with greater skill and confidence. BARNGA: A Simulation on Cultural Clashes Wednesday, November 2 - 12:35 p.m. Newnham Campus D2014 BARNGA is the classic simulation game on cultural clashes. Participants experience the shock of realizing that despite their good intentions and the many similarities among them, people interpret things differently from one another in profound ways, especially people from differing cultures. Players learn that they must understand and reconcile these differences if they want to function effectively in a cross- cultural group. Gleedership Thursday, November 3 1:30 p.m. Seneca@York Campus S2150 Examine clips from the hit series GLEE in combination with Leadership Theory. Enjoy finding out what works and what doesnt always. Lessons on leadership abound in unexpected places.

The Keys to Collaboration Thursday, November 10 3:20 p.m. Newnham Campus A1531A The most effective organizations are the ones that are filled with people who can collaborate effectively with one another. However, collaborating with those who may have different work styles, different visions, and different ways of getting things done can be difficult. This workshop will expose participants to a variety of collaborative challenges, and a collective debrief will help participants understand some of the universal fundamentals of effective collaboration.

Peer Helping Workshop Tuesday, November 15 - 1:30 p.m. King Campus Boardroom B Listening is the key skill developed in all conflict resolution and restorative practices. This exciting interactive workshop works on the basics of helping yourself and others through conflict. From Julius Caesar to Jack Bauer - Leadership Theory Through the Ages Wednesday, November 16 - 1:30 p.m. Markham Campus M470 This interactive overview of leadership theory will examine how leadership has been defined, studied and understood throughout history, and will provide examples of various theories through the use of clips from popular television programs. Participants will learn about the development, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of: Great Man Theory Trait Theories of Leadership Behavioural Theories of Leadership Situational/Contingency Theories of Leadership Transformational Theories of Leadership It is hoped that this workshop will help you examine your own personal theories of leadership, and will encourage you to conceive of those theories as constantly growing and evolving. Examine the roots of non-violent change exemplified by Mahatma Gandhis uniquely peaceful leadership style. Apply Gandhis leadership philosophy to both personal and business world decisions today. Bringing Out the Superhero in You! Tuesday, November 22 11:40 a.m.

Newnham Campus D2014 Presented by Joann Lim of Big Picture Fine Focus This game changing conversation/workshop is centred around the Super Hero that lives within all of us. It begins with a very real and confronting (yet fun) look at the things that hold us back and why. From there the workshop will move into a discovery zone of how to transform these limitations into leveraging powers. The conversation/workshop leaves participants with a sense of wonder and awe: wonder of what other things/thoughts/people are holding them back and awe for what is possible.

Cut through the undergrowth to discover leadership wisdom in places you never thought youd find it! Learning from World Leaders: Winston Churchill as CEO We Shall Storm the Boardrooms! Wednesday, November 23 - 10:45 a.m. King Campus Boardroom B British Prime Minister Winston Churchill formed the Allied response that triumphed over Nazi German in World War II. He won great admiration from the British people, but failed to be re-elected in peacetime. Study the leadership style of one of historys most controversial leaders. Set in the future where young men and women are forced into a dangerous battle where only one can survive, this series of books has garnered international attention, and will soon be a major motion picture. How Did You Come Up With That? - Fostering Creativity Wednesday, November 30 3:20 p.m. Newnham Campus A1531A Every organization seems to want to be innovative, but very few seem to be able to create a culture where creativity flourishes, and new ideas are constantly created. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to a series of activities that can get their members thinking outside the box for everything from creating new initiatives to solving organizational roadblocks. Who Wants to Rule the World? Wednesday, November 30 - 1:30 p.m. Seneca@York S2160

Participate in an interactive game that lets you rule a country. Countries can declare war, issue media statements, sign trade agreements or simply take over the world. Discover how poor countries have to rely on others and how the power-wealth dynamic can change the game.
Earthquake! Thursday, December 1 9:50 a.m. Markham Campus M410 A simulation that helps participants better understand the nature of collaboration and the behaviours that both facilitate collaboration and make it less likely. What would you do if you found yourself trapped in a basement after an earthquake? Come and see what a group of your fellow students think, and whether you can help each other survive! Into the Wind A Documentary Film Event Thursday, December 1 - 1:30 p.m. King Campus Boardroom B Canadian basketball star Steve Nash helped produce this documentary chronicling the remarkable story of one of Canadas greatest heroes: Terry Fox. Be reminded of the man behind the legend, and discuss why Terrys particular form of leadership has resonated throughout the years.
