Jul 1994 - 1998 Khmer Rouge set up a Provisional government at Pailin by after
failure to reach settlement with the government. Defections,
loss of area to government forces 1997-98 led to its collapse.

¹On 10 Jul 1960, Prince Norodom Sihanouk (s.a.) appointed his mother Queen Kossamak (s.a.)
as the "Ceremonial Head of State, Symbol, Incarnation and Representative of the Crown."
Afterwards she carried out the ceremonial duties connected to the monarchy, and was in effect
Queen Regnant without reigning.

Territorial Disputes: Cambodia and Thailand dispute sections of boundary with missing boundary
markers and Thai encroachments into Cambodian territory; maritime boundary with Vietnam is
hampered by unresolved dispute over offshore islands; Cambodia accuses Thailand of obstructing
access to Preah Vihear temple ruins awarded to Cambodia by ICJ decision in 1962; in 2004
Cambodian-Laotian and Laotian-Vietnamese boundary commissions re-erected missing markers
completing most of their demarcations.
