Pastors Corner ~
STEWARDSHIP AS A WAY OF LIFE PART 2 Stewardship as a way of life is based upon conversion of heart. It embraces all of life and challenges us to be faithful to our calling to follow Jesus Christ. STEWARDSHIP OF PRAYER Prayer is about our relationship with God. It is an aspiration of the heart, it directs us to heaven; it is something great which expands the soul and unites us to Jesus (St. Therese of Lisieux). Stewards nurture their relationship with God by having prayer life. Regardless of the length of prayer, listening and responding to God is at the core of the disciples life. The most important prayer of all is the Eucharist in which we hear Gods word and receive Jesus in the Eucharist. STEWARDSHIP OF SERVICE Ministry is about gifts and needs. We name and nurture the gifts God has given us; we place these gifts at the service of those in need. Ministries are many in number and find expression in the areas of worship, education, community, social justice, leadership and evangelization. The Epistle of St. Peter reminds us: Each one has received a gift, use it to serve another as good stewards of Gods varied graces (1 Pt. 4:10). A theology of ministry and service emphasizes that it is not so much that we do things for others but rather Jesus is doing something for others through us. Our prayer should remind us that ultimately all stewardship is the work of the Lord taking place through the actions of his faithful disciples. STEWARDSHIP OF SHARING Stewards are generous people. They have a grateful heart realizing that all gifts come from the Lord. They feel an obligation to return a portion to the Church and other charities. They refuse to be co-opted by a culture of greed and live a life of hoarding. A tough question has to be asked: Can a person claim to be a disciple of the Lord if he is not sharing generously of his/her financial resources? A strange phenomenon happens in the stewardship world. The greater the generosity and the greater the sacrifice, the greater the joy. Joy, according to some authors, is impossible without generosity. And another author states that joy is the infallible sign of Gods presence.

Songs, Stories and Prayer for Advent

Automated Giving
To strengthen stewardship, caring for and sharing Gods gifts and family as disciples of Christ, we request that you consider utilizing a new and easier way to support our parish...Automated Giving. What is Automated Giving? An alternative means of support for St. Columba Church instead of using envelopes. You may now make your contributions directly from your checking or savings account or with a credit card. There is NO COST to you to participate in the program. What are the benefits to me? 1. This program allows you to plan your giving in the same way you budget your other financial commitments. 2. You no longer have to be concerned about making up missed offertory donations when you are out of town, on vacation, ill, etc. 3. You can easily adjust the amount of your donation (up or down) through the secure website. 4. You no longer need to write a check and search for an envelope every week. 5. By using a credit card your donations will help you increase your credit card bonus incentives. I feel uncomfortable about not having something to physically drop in the collection basket. What should I do? Special donation slips are available in the pews for those enrolled in the program to be dropped into the collection basket, should you wish.

Everyone is invited to an evening of Songs, Stories and Prayer for Advent with Michael John Poirier, Monday, December 5th, at 7:00 pm at St. Catherine Laboure, 4124 Mt. Abraham. For more info, call 858-571-1162.
