Organisational psychology offers a wealth of approaches and solutions for addressing workplace health and safety. dr Peter Langford is an Honorary associate of Macquarie University, and was previously a Senior Lecturer in Organisational Psychology before moving to a full time role as Director of Voice Project, a research and consulting company based at Macquarie University. Dr Peter Langford will discuss the impact of culture and leadership upon safety performance. Hell present data drawn from over 100,000 employees and 3,000 leaders, identifying the practices and behaviours that drive safety outcomes, and highlighting the gaps and priorities for action for most organisations. When a workplace incident occurs, it is common for the incident to also have a psychological impact on individuals within the organisation. If such an incident occurs, it is essential to re-visit policies and strategies and address any issues to prevent further incidents from occurring. In conjunction with this review process, it is also vital to address the psychological aspects for individuals, to ensure their mental health and wellbeing. The development and implementation of the Tenix Zero Harm vision and Guiding Principles has had a positive impact on safety performance and employee engagement levels across the organisation. In this session, Martin Smith will introduce and present the Five Guiding Principles of Zero Harm and its vision of Safe People, Safe Place and Safely Home.
