1. Demonstrate skills required to operate as a session musician This task covers part of Unit 363 Session Musician.

Assignment
You have been hired as a dep by the Play Something Function band to perform 2 songs with them. However there is a certain amount of uncertainty about the gig. You have been given the songs to learn and chord charts however you do not know whether they will be performed in the original key, what the endings will be or whether there are any alterations to the song structure. Using the knowledge you gain throughout the term you will suitably prepare yourself to perform the 2 songs to the best of your ability, having prepared for all possible situations and enter the performance with an open mind and sharp ears!

Tasks / Evidence / Submission Date Task 1: You must perform 2 different tracks with the Play Something function band. These will be given to you well in advance of the performance. You will attend all classes and take notes so you are fully prepared for anything that may happen in the given situation. (1.3) You will be assessed under gig conditions! This means act professionally from the minute you step on stage, do not mess about. Act as you would if you were on a professional gig and wanted to be asked back! Grading Criteria P.3 Evidence competent musical, technical, self-management, interpersonal, communication (verbal and non-verbal) and safe practice skills in taking part in the performance and associated activity. Evidence: Video Recorded Performance Submission Date: Week 13 Task 2: You will sit down with your tutor and assess the strengths and weaknesses of your performance and how you can improve to further your development as a session musician. (1.4) Evidence: Word processed written essay P.4: Evidence skills to evaluate the degree of success of the performance as a whole and of their role within it. An analysis of strengths and areas for development leads to the development of some strategies for the ongoing refinement of their skills as a session musician, which may be of value to the learners development as a musician. There may be nominal tutor input into this undertaking.
