1. Upgrading Your Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7

Windows 7 does not support a direct upgrade from Windows XP. You therefore need to transfer your setup and settings and perform a Windows 7 installation from scratch. Requirements Download the Windows Easy Transfer (WET) tool to your Windows XP SP3 computer. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer You will need a USB HDD, USB flash drive or a blank recordable DVD disc with enough free space. Note: You cannot use the Windows Easy Transfer (WET) tool to transfer programmes. The WET tool allows for the transfer of data files and programme settings only. You will later have to re-install your applications on the new computer once again. Furthermore, WET does not transfer any system files such as fonts and drivers. To start using this new information, you will have to re-install any custom fonts and drivers again in Windows 7. Proceed as Follows Transferring Your Windows XP Files and Settings

1. Install the Windows Easy Transfer (WET) tool that you have previously downloaded onto your
Windows XP SP3 computer.

2. Connect the external USB hard disk or the USB flash drive to your Windows XP SP3
computer (necessary step for storing the Windows XP Images).

3. Quit any active programmes. 4. Launch Windows Easy Transfer. To do this, click Start Programs - Windows Easy Transfer. 5. On the Welcome screen, click Next. 6. The "Close programs screen will indicate any programmes that you will have to exit prior to
transferring data.

7. From the "Choose how to transfer files and settings to your new computer screen, select
"Use a CD, DVD, or other removable media.

8. Select the desired destination disk from the "Choose how to transfer files and program
settings screen.

9. From the "network location screen, select the destination path and assign a name for the
data transfer, then click Next.

10. From the "What do you want to transfer to your new computer screen, select "All user
accounts, files, and settings.

11. On the screen that displays next, confirm your selections and make sure that the displayed
size of the transfer file does not exceed the capacity of your destination drive. If necessary, replace the destination disk or edit your file selection. To start the transfer, click Transfer.

12. Windows Easy Transfer will create the migration file on the destination drive. 13. After Windows Easy Transfer has completed the transfer, your computer is ready for installing
Windows 7 from scratch. 14. Unplug the USB disk and continue installing Windows 7 from scratch.

2. Windows 7 Installing From Scratch
