Description: On property of the Howard Hughes Medical Insititute, which would not permit
access to site. Hayes Manor was part of a 700-acre estate built c. 1767. It was owned by the
Dunlop-Laird family from 1792 on.

Comments: According to Farquhar, the remains of Dunlop family members were moved to this
location c. 1891 to keep them with the house, which was still owned by descendants. An obelisk
was inscribed, In Memory of James & Elizabeth Dunlop & their descendents.

been cut back. All stones upright. Evidence of prior repairs.

Comments: Stone pillar at street has plaque with historical info on Oatland. House still remains,
but separated from graves by new houses.

Comments: Associated with Basil Waters House/Pleasant Fields, which is owned by M-NCPPC.

Purdum Rd, later the Edward Burdette farm. Parson James Day and others buried in family plot
on farm. Cemetery was plowed over in 1960s.

Comments: In 1975, 2 Boyer stones were found at edge of cornfield along fence, along with
other broken stones.

Comments: Located in Seneca Creek State Park. Jim Sorensen (county archaeologist) calls this
a slave cemetery.

Comments: Fraley Townhouses currently being built here. Gravestones were located on NW
edge of stormwater pond. They have been removed. No bodies located.

Description: The cemetery is located in Darnestown Square Park just east of the intersection with
Seneca Rd. Archaeology found 16 graves, but residents say it may have been closer to 50.
Burials occurred through WWI.

Comments: Believed to originally belong to Darne family and possibly has burials of
Darnestown's founding family.

rear of lot. In late 1960s, only 1 marker was visible.

Description: Located in forest about 1 mile west of Riley's Lock and 1/5 mile north of C&O
Canal towpath at mile 24. 5 headstones with hardcarved inscriptions, 4 are propped against trees.
About 25 fieldstones, some with footstones. Mostly seneca sandstone.

Comments: John Clipper worked as a stonecutter at Seneca Quarry Mill. He built a house
adjacent to canal for himself, his wife, and 10 children. Transcriptions and article in file.

Description: Graves located in front yard about 20' from large tree. No markers present. Duley

Comments: Son of former owner remembers several Robinson childrens' stones and some
fieldstones, which he thought might be slave burials. See notes in file from interview with Robert
Duley
