PRINCIPAL OF MANAGEMENT

Question 1 : As a manager of XYZ Manufacturing, I have the responsibility for staffing. I must engage in the activities of human resource also like interview job candidates, orient new employees and evaluate work performance. After refer to the employment records, I had realize that I will face with a major challenge over the next five years. My production employees almost 40 of the 200 will be entering their 60s. Although in our firm there is no formal retirement age but most of the production staff usually retire before 65s. In this age they are eligible to get their full retirement pensions. Furthermore, I had realized that local colleges are now graduating fewer trades people in production than they did a decade ago. So, as a manager of this organization, I need to come out with a solution as soon as possible to avoid the serious problem happen next five years. First of all, I have to do a human resource planning. Its a process to ensure that our organization have the right number and kinds people in the right places, and at the right times, who are capable of effectively and efficiently performing assigned tasks. Once I finish the human resource planning I will only know my current human resource status and my future needs. To solve the problem of the retirement production staff we need to recruit youngest generation and let them start been train while the old staff still work for the firm. So that, the firm will continue work effectively. We can use the recruiting channels to recruit the youngest generation. Recruitment is a process of locating, identifying, and attracting capable applicants. We can use internal and external recruiting. Internal recruiting includes job postings, weekly company news paper and also through company intranet. The external recruiting include employee referrals, advertising, campus visits and through agencies. Besides, we can also use online recruiting also name as e-recruiting and the guerilla recruiting. Through the job posting we can put on the vacancy needs at the company signboard or notice board. Besides, we can post on our weekly company news paper. This vacancy news can be separate out through our company intranet too. So that our workers who are interested in production can fulfill into this job. Furthermore we able to recruit the worker that more familiar with our daily production. In the other hand, we can recruit through employee referrals. So that this vacancy needs can be separate out by the company workers to their relatives, friends or so on. Its because if some of our workers know that who are looking for job on this field they will help to introduce. It can produce the best applicants because the knowledge of the organization provided by the current employee. Besides, we can recruit through advertising. We can post up this

vacancy needs through give away flyer or we can post at the notice board at the road side. We can also advertise on tv. We can also post our vacancy needs through the agencies. So, they can help us to recognize the right people when there is person looking for job. They will introduce them to our firm. In addition, we can also do online recruiting and guerilla recruiting. We can set up a web page for our organization and put on the job vacancy on our web page. So that the candidates who are interested they can straightly fill in the application form or send to us their resume through the net. We can also post on the job street. It is because it can be more knowable from others. For the guerilla recruiting we can structure a fixed set of question and took it to a suitable place and give it for the applicants to answer on it and from here we can look for a people that qualify or have potential in this field. To solve the problem of our production field are getting fewer qualification people I will go for the campus visits on the first. I will try to understanding the problem of graduating fewer trades people. May be I will try to cooperate with some of the local colleges. We need to increase the intake of production. We can carry out something to attract them and also with a good perspective. We can make sure they will get a job after they graduate with a good work environment and a good pay of salary. Besides, we can give out more scholarships or try to form up a fund for production education. It is to make sure that the people who are interested in production can afford the school fees. We can also carry out an orientation for this course so that they will know more about this course and the benefit about it.

Question 2 : a. As the manager of a firm that outsources work to a subcontractor in India. After a site visit I discover that the subcontractor employs children between 12 and 16 years old to work for a long hours and just get a lower pay. As the manager of a firm, I am morally responsible for this situation although I have subcontract to the subcontractor in India. I am the one who gave the power of contract to them so I have the responsibility to lead them for ensuring them the knowledge of business ethics that its an accepted principle of right or wrong governing the conduct of business people. Although as a manager I need to maximize the profit of my firm but besides I need to control my firm for work through a good ethics and not through cheating the pay of the worker or doing some illegal things. However is we need to treat our worker fairly. Hiring the children who are below 18 years old to work is illegal. Furthermore they are been paid by a very low pay. I have the fully responsible to stop this unethical and illegal action. b. I will have a meeting with the subcontractor in India to get know their problem. I will tell them its illegal to hire children below 18 years old to work with us. I will also tell them that we cannot conduct our business in an unethical ways. I will warn them for stopping hiring those children and we are not supposed to cheat the worker pay, they have the right to get the pay they supposed to have. After having the meeting I will let them sign an agreement letter so that they wont be doing any unethical and illegal things in the future. If they continue doing something that is illegal and unethical then the subcontract will be ended immediately with them. Add on, I will report the way they act to the responsible society to stop their firm operation. Its to avoid other peoples from being cheating and treated unfairly by them. c. I wont change my position even I had been told that those children are breadwinners for their families, and without the work they might be forced to resort to begging, theft, or prostitution. Every child has their right to get the chance of

education. They need to gain knowledge for having a bright future. Even their parents also cannot rape away their chances. Even the government also has a rule that every child must get their primary education on the age of 7 years old and must finish up to secondary until form five. Its because the government want to make sure that every young generation have the ability to survive in a modern technology world. Furthermore, the children nowadays are the one who can bring up the development of a country in the future. So, I will do something different to resolve this situation and not to changing my position. First of all, I will stop them from working to my firm and I will send them to school as soon as possible. I will try to help them to get a scholarship and I will also form up a foundation of education through my firm and cooperate with some other firms. Its to make sure that those children will able to get their education. So that in the future we might be able to get a very loyal and full of modern technology knowledge worker to our firm as well and not an illegal under age worker now and without any knowledge and also a way for a firm to conduct out their social responsibility. For the orphan I will help them find a orphanage home so that they will have a better home to stay. The problem of their parents and their families I will introduce them some charitable organizations. So that they able to get some financial support and wont have the begging needs. Besides, I will bring them to attend some courses that teach about some general skills for leaving. Through those learning centre their parents have the opportunity to learn some skills for survive in this world and not just depend on their small children. The women might be teach some cooking and baking knowledge so that they able to do something and sell it out to get money or may have the opportunity to work with some restaurant or may be a small coffee shop. Then the man may be teach some safety skills or wall painting skills or may be repairing vehicle, electricity and so on so that they will have the chance to get a job. So that they wont be losing up a breadwinner even their child go to get their education. For the parents with disabilities, I will help them to find a special home for people with the disabilities to teach them the knowledge of how to take care themselves in their daily life. In with there will have the professional or nurse to take care of them, so that their children no need to worry about their parent daily life and can pay full attention to study.
