CROWN LAND DEVELOPMENT

Mr Malcolm Smith, the owner of the Crown Inn, has submitted a planning application to develop the land next to The Crown Inn. If approved it will provide a small village shop and holiday flats. The application is due to be heard by East Riding Planning Department. Several people in the village have raised concern that, because of a statement contained in his presentation to the Council, Mr Smith can prevent the building of the New Village Hall. The piece that has raised concern states:The holiday homes fronts will look onto a small grassed area formerly toilets. It is understood that the council has recently sold this land and that proposals for a single storey community building have been drawn up. A building on this land would be close to the proposed holiday homes but given the intended short term usage of the properties it should not be an impediment to the development. In reality a new community building is unlikely as it is understood that this applicant has the ability to prevent development, except for a new public toilet facility, through a restrictive covenant on the land. The Committee can inform the people of the village that the only land affected is that small piece next to the Village Hall formerly the site of the public toilets. It does not have any affect on the present Village Hall site and cannot prevent the building of a new main hall. Mr Smith does hold a restrictive covenant on the previous public toilet site which prevents building on that land other than a facility similar to that previously provided namely Public Toilet and community storage. We have approached Mr Smith on several occasions to remove the covenant to allow us to build a medical centre and other facilities that would benefit the whole community. On all occasions he has refused. In our conversations with the Lottery and subject to the funding being granted they have agreed that we can use the building to provide Public Toilets and storage as before. If in the meantime Mr Smith does agree to remove the covenant then we shall alter the design back to the medical centre, and other community facilities. We should point out that this application by Mr Smith has nothing to do with the Landlords of the Crown Inn, Gary and Tracy Dolman. They operate the business independently from Mr Smith as a good public house.. Tracy and Gary have supported the Village Hall Committee, and continue to do so, in efforts to raise funding for the New Hall and we are most grateful to them. We would hope, despite the outcome of this application, that everyone will continue to support their efforts to make The Crown Inn an essential part of our community. Should you have any further questions regarding the planned New Village Hall then please do not hesitate to contact our Chairman, Paul Cross on 07711797200. 50+ CLUB Come along and join the other members of the 50+ club. It is designed to keep us active and to have some fun. It takes place every Thursday morning between 9.30am and 10.30am. The first half hour is chair aerobics to ensure that everyone of the muscles in your body gets some exercise and this is followed by playing games of skittles, softball, curling etc. We are applying for a grant of 500 in order that we can buy some equipment of our own. There is a small charge of 1.50 but this does include a cup of tea./coffee and biscuits.

LOTTERY PERSONNEL VISIT PAULL The Lottery Mentors for the New village Hall Project visited us on Friday 18th November to discuss our Stage 3 application. They will be on hand throughout Stage 3 to provide us with any help we require. They explained how much they support our project and were delighted to see all the effort and support the Community has shown for the project. They have said we do not need to wait the full 6 months to send in some of the work we can do so immediately, they have also provided 7,000 for us to use in obtaining information e.g. surveyors reports, ground surveys etc. We will have further meetings in the coming weeks to appoint our professional team. We shall also be sending out tender documentation to anyone who would like to quote for the construction. If anyone would like to put in a quote and would like the detailed specification then please contact the Chairman, Mr Paul Cross, no later than 31st December ADVERTISING Anyone wishing to advertise their business in this newsletter can do so by contacting Paul Cross on 07711797200. The rates are 1/4 Page 10, 20 for 1/2 page or 40 for a full page. NEWSLETTERS We have had several requests from people who do not live in the village but would like a copy of our Newsletters. If you know anyone who would like a copy then ask them to email Paul Cross on crosspaulg@aol.com and he will arrange to send a copy direct to them. VILLAGE HALL LIBRARY We have been donated many books which has allowed us to start a small village Library in the village hall. If you visit the hall there are many shelves full of all kinds of books, fiction and non fiction and by many great authors and lots of childrens books. If you would like to take one you simply put 50p in the Honesty Box and take your choice home. If you would like to return it when you have finished simply put it back on the shelf. VILLAGE SHOP Millennium Flowers who sell the Fruit and Veg in the Village Hall on a Saturday morning have indicated that they don't feel the shop is well enough supported and will therefore be ceasing their involvement. Some customers have suggested that his produce was not good enough quality and expensive. Can you let us know your views by contact any committee member or Paul Cross on 07711797200. As so many people appreciate the facility to purchase the morning National Newspapers at the Village Hall we shall continue this facility for the time being while we try and get another Fresh Produce supplier., if this is want you want then please let us know. COMPUTER TRAINING Throughout December we shall continue our Computer Training Courses every Friday between10.00am to 12 noon. We shall be providing training on everything you might need to know from the basic keyboard skill, sending emails, photos, skype and surfing the net. We shall start from the very beginning and go at your pace. The course costs 2 per person per session. To book call Paul Cross on 07711797200 or simply turn up on the day. We have 9 laptops which once you have learned the basics you can take home and practice on.
