Learning objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to: 1. Find the main idea of this text and its purpose. 2. Find the meaning of the words in bold based on text. 3. Discuss in group of 3, about cause, effect and solutions of the air quality in Malaysia.

Moral values: Air is very important in our lives and without it we cannot even lives and there are no live forms in the world. Teacher shows pictures to the students. Students are asked to watch the pictures attentively. After that, teacher asks some questions pertaining to the pictures to the students. Students respond to teachers questions. Teacher tells the students about the topic that they will be learned.

Students are asked to form 4 groups. Each group will be given an envelope consisting topic that they will be discussed and presented. The topics are: cause, effect and solutions of Air Quality in Malaysia. They are given 10 minutes to discuss. Students are encouraged to share their opinion with each other. Later, each group has to appoint 3 members. They have to present the information about the topic that they had discussed.

To identify whether the students can apply the knowledge they had learned in real context. To allow the students to demonstrate their understanding through presentation. To increase the students proficiency of the target language. APPENDIX (4)

APPENDIX (2) Read the text and answer the questions below. The air quality improved markedly yesterday for the first time in weeks. The Department of Environments Air Pollutant Index (API) did not have any readings in the unhealthy and very unhealthy categories. It only had good and moderate readings both in the morning and evening. At 11 a.m., 21 areas registered a reading of good, and 30 moderate. By 5 p.m., 22 areas recorded good levels, and another 27 moderate. The evening readings for two areas- Kemaman in Terengganu and Labuan in Sabah- could not be take due to technical problems. An API of between 0 and 50 indicates that the air quality is good; between 51 and 100 considered moderate; between 101 and 200 is unhealthy; between 201 and 300 is very unhealthy; and, 301 onwards is hazardous. Visibility improved yesterday, which 12 places recording more than 10 kilometers, and most other places hovering between 5 and 9 kilometers. Only 10 areas in Penang, Perak, Johor and Sarawak recorded visibility of 4 Kilometers and below, with the lowest being Senai (1.6 km), Sibu (2km) and Sri Aman (2.5 km). Malaysia Meteorological Service Department Principle Assistant Director, Wong Teck Kiong attributed improvement to changes in wind conditions and rain.
