Cookie's stor

This is very sweet but sad story. The team of Adopt a Dog in Sri Lanka (Oshie, Jay, Muditha and Harindi) were checking on foster homes for the rescues early morning around 7 am at Nugegoda junction when suddenly a cream colour sweet little doggy comes limping and shows them her leg and tells us her legs hurts. When they checked her left hind leg, they were shocked to see a large wound with blood, pus coming out with maggots. When Oshie took the leg to inspect she didn't even make a single sound. They knew instantly they had to help her because she came to them having a sense that they would give a helping hand. For that reason and the mission to heal her wounds they named her 'Cookie'. A gentleman across the street who was watching the team trying to help Cookie approached them and asked what they are trying to do for her. The team explained to him her situation and the fact that she needs medical assistance. He asked who to take her to and Cookie was being a doll, making no sound being a very obedient dog who was very intelligent. The kind gentlemen Prasad helped C ookie at the V ets them to take her to the vet in his car and was there with us for a long time. "Good kind strangers do exist". At the Vet's Cookie was diagnosed with a tumor. It seems that at first she had an accident and due to not getting treatment, the wound had grown into a malignancy. Now they need to stop it from spreading, and x-rays also confirm this - her best chance according to doctors is to 'amputate' her leg. They assume she will recover fast and within two weeks would be back to normal and hopefully with few Chemo shots, they could stop the cancer spreading. Amputation is to be done, today and the leg will be amputated from the top part of the leg around tight so we minimize spreading. Her blood work was given yesterday and if blood work is fine, she will go for surgery today. ADSL were told to take Cookie's x-ray and it confirms the diagnosis and they took her for a second opinion from a another doctor who is experienced as well and gave the same suggestion, but since they need to keep her boarded for few days they decided to take her to a veterinary surgeons in Nawala who have boarding facilities. She was also in heat, which means if they don't sterilize her in few weeks time she might have a litter. The Vets said that if this operation goes well, she will also go for sterilization and it's the best thing for her because she will be not in a state to have babies on the road and take care of them in her condition. Right now, the BIGGEST help that you can do for Cookie is to be a foster home for her for a couple of weeks - maximum two weeks - till she heals and recovers completely. The reason been needing a foster home, is that boarding her at a vet is very expensive and as the team is taking care of the operation and medical costs, the boarding costs are too much to handle alone. Hopefully once she recovers she might be able to find a home out of the streets. She really is an obedient dog and very smart and I'm sure she will teach you'll a few things. So if YOU can give her that foster home or a permanent home please call Oshie on 0771-695-816. For her update one can log on to www.facebook.com/adoptadoginsrilanka
