Program Perspective
The responsibility for safe operation of Industrial plants is clearly placed on the top executives of companies under provisions of the Factories Act as well as the Environment Protection Act. To effectively discharge this responsibility, there is a need for laying down the broad safety policy as well as a comprehensive program to ensure its
implementation.
Safety Audit is a useful technique to undertake a systematic critical appraisal effectiveness of a company's safety program. Such a periodic review provides an independent assessment of the
correctness of the basic direction as well as identifies specific areas for action to improve the safety aspect of the industry.
The course will highlight the methodology to be adopted, the elements of management and
technical systems as well as the standards against which they will be audited. The course will be
participatory and will entail extensive working by participants in small groups in various exercises.

Salient features of statutory requirements of Safety Audit as per, The Factories Act, The Karnataka Factories Rules & Manufacutre, Storage & Import of Hazardious Chemical Rules Safety audit-definition, frequency, purpose. Methodology of safety audit as per IS 14489:1998 Elements of occupational safety & health system. Development of check lists. Techniques of collecting information. Report writing
