a list of movies and books i ran into a pretty good list of 'top 100 sci-fis' online a few days

ago.. It inspired me to make this list of books and movies i really love :) i'll try my best to rank them first to last but cannot guarantee that order will be permanent 'in my heart' ;) [he] A Wizard of Earthsea, Le Guin, makes magic believable to a scientist [he] Gray Lensman, EE Smith, independent, autonomous, authoritative,.. what better role model could we show today's youth? For any generation? Lensmen is timeless and deserves LoR quality production Bicentennial Man, Asimov, perhaps a better movie than book due to Williams' search to become human, like Data from Star Trek, Williams portrays the best in us :) Dune, Herbert, great for various reasons perhaps most importantly the concept 'the hand of God' introduced later, great book, great movie :) Lord of Illusions, Barker, the author has a great and vivid imagination :) he's not afraid to consider our dark sides :) both book and movie are incredible :) read The Great and Secret Show first ;) Knowing, i've watched this several times and the end still impresses me :) i believe we are strong enough to go with honor and love :) thank God for the aliens in this one ;) Fist of the North Star, it's funny but paradoxical :) the end makes you think :) Atlantis, i'm not crazy about Disney movies in general but this deserves attention :) Stellvia, better than Naruto in some ways, i believe we need to focus on the final message our whole civilization :) Ring, three great versions from three countries, has a special place in my heart due to authenticity of concept, the book is also hair-raising :) Princess Blade, the quintessential female underdog, how can she NOT win your heart? ;) Avatar, basically cowboys and Indians but is endearing for various other reasons Contact, has a special place in my heart for various reasons, perhaps 1. Sagan was an outspoken atheist, 2. his main character did a 180 about the value of spirituality, great music :) Cyborg Girl, i'm an idiot but this makes me cry every time i watch it.. i'm pretty sure this kind of love has existed periodically on Earth.. maybe someday we'll see a robot do it for real ;) Death Note, if you could kill with the stroke of a pen, would you? It's a fascinating concept which deserves much discussion and debate :) Onmyoji, a beautiful set of movies set in mythological Japan, it's hard to compete with this style

Forbidden Kingdom, i could prob'ly watch every day for the rest of my life ;) If only there existed this quintessential form of innocence in our universe ^^ perhaps if we can imagine, it already exists? :) Galaxy Quest, so many reasons a great parody :) but most importantly: a man can find meaning in his life through innocence :) Green Lantern, the force? The spirit of the race? You decide but relax and enjoy before you think ;) Ichi, a blind beautiful samurai dazzles us with her humility Ip Man, on this list if only for the believable kung fu :) Magadheera, the most spectacular and sweet Indian movie ever made 8) Megamind, who's the hero? Life's full of surprises :) Never Cry Wolf, endearing and quiet, full of wonderful moments :) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Adams, perhaps the book is slightly better than the movie ;) Departures, a tour of Japanese sensitivity and spirituality, just beautiful :) Chronicles of Riddick, the quintessential survivor :) Vin Diesel IS Riddick :) Shinobi, Naruto-style comes to life in this sensitive magical samurai film :) Sunshine, you never heard of it likely but you'll recognize some faces :) great movie :) Event Horizon, scary as Hell with great acting/casting :) gotta love Lawrence :) Team America, i still cannot believe America allowed production of this satire, it spoofs everything but most importantly: Americanism :) Day the Earth Stood Still, the old version, it's compelling :) The Thing, the old version, it's cute, funny, and inspiring :) Truman Show, Jim at his best :) a somber examination of our lies/values The Order, interesting concept :) worth watching if only for that :) Star Trek: Voyage Home, the cast at their best :) sweet and endearing :) Lord of the Rings, true to the books, 'heads will roll' if Lensman is not up to par Protector, Niven, ^^ deserves to be brought to the 'big screen'.. a wonderful epic Spirited Away, a sweet movie i don't wish to describe..

Honorable mention: these movies get honorable mention cuz they were important in my life but perhaps only deserve this separate category.. Don't take offense.. Just my feelings.. 2001, Matrix, Kung Fu (the series), The Last Temptation of Christ (both book and film), Outer Limits (old series), Lost in Space (old series), Star Trek (original series), Voyager, Battlestar Galactica (both series), Cowboy Bebop, Venture Brothers, Super Milk Chan, Land of the Giants,.. ^^ This list is not comprehensive but.. i've tried to list out shows i'm not indifferent toward or repulsed by [he] i've forgotten things like Time Tunnel .. i wasted too much time on shows like Gilligan's Island for lack of available sci-fi/fantasy at that time :( ^^ Plz don't hold it against me ;) The main list above is an attempt to point out books and films for reasons we might not be immediately cognizant of.. Perhaps you can watch/read them 'in a new light' ;) Love, sam :)
