About Kits House
Since 1894, Kitsilano Neighbourhood House has been the hub of the Westside. Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is a friendly neighbourhood place. People of all ages and cultures come together to enjoy programs and services that make the Westside a healthy, safe and vibrant community in which to live and do business.

The Westside of Vancouver is a healthy, safe and vibrant community where everyone thrives.

We are dedicated to strengthening our community through leadership, collaboration and opportunity.

Our Redevelopment
Starting January 23rd, 2012, the current site of Kits House at West 7th & Vine will be undergoing redevelopment. Both heritage buildings will be preserved. Our programs have been relocated elsewhere on the Westside. We will be in our new main office (3683 West 4th Ave. @ Alma St.) starting on January 23rd, 2012. Membership
Enjoy your membership for longer by purchasing after January 1st and before March 31st. Renewals are due before March 31st. Family Membership - $10.00 Individual Membership - $5.00 Volunteer Membership - $1.00 Kitsilano Neighbourhood House membership helps to support the administrative cost of programs and entitles you to our program guide, e-newsletters and special events. If you choose, your Kits House membership includes membership to the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of Greater Vancouver (ANH), our umbrella organization. You will receive notices of Annual General Meetings, Special Meetings, and have the opportunity to vote in the ANH Board of Governors. For more information, please visit www.anhgv.org. All membership fees are non-refundable.

Community Development Tables
Westside Food Security Collaboration The Westside Food Security Collaborative is a neighbourhood group working on food issues on the Westside. The group is made up of service providers and community members. We meet monthly and welcome new members. Westside Seniors Empowerment Coalition The coalition represents seniors living on Vancouvers Westside. It is an umbrella group of individuals, community health providers, community organizations, churches, businesses, and agencies. The mandate is to promote healthy ageing through physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. For more information contact Julie Wall at julie@kitshouse.org. Westside ECD Network 4 This group is made up of organizations that provide childcare, preschool, family drop-in and other Early Childhood Development (ECD) related programs and who are interested in working together to build the capacity of the Westside to provide high quality, accessible ECD services. For more information contact info@westsidehub.ca. Westside Food Collaborative The Westside Food Collaborative is a neighbourhood group working on food issues on the west side. The group is made up of anyone who lives, works, studies, visits, volunteers or cares about food in our community. We meet monthly, have an e-mail list, host events, and support projects. Neighbourhood Small Grants Program
Want to get involved? Feel like giving back to the community? Apply for a Neighbourhood Small Grant (NSG)! Groups of two or more neighbours can apply for a grant of $50 to $500 to work together on small projects that benefit their neighbourhood socially, physically, culturally or environmentally. Applicants must live in Arbutus Ridge, Kitsilano or West Point Grey. All grant decisions are made by our Resident Committee. Teach a cooking class. Put on a music recital. Have a street hockey tournament. Plant a community garden and much more! Next deadline will be in the Spring of 2012. The exact date is TBA. Onsite 2305 W. 7th Ave Join our volunteer-led English Conversation Circles - Beginner, intermediate and advanced levels available. Come practice your English, meet your neighbours and learn about your community! Starts in February 2012 for 8 sessions. Welcoming Neighbours Out-trips and Socials


Offsite - various locations Out-trips and socials for newcomers who want to be more involved in the community, make new friends, practice English and have fun! Bumble Tree Childcare
Offsite - Jericho Military Base at 4th & Highbury Need a Break? We have play activities, messy hands-on crafts, outside play & early literacy sing song circle time for your child. Stimulating educational activities to help children prepare for preschool and pre-kindergarden school readiness. This program is for children 18 months to 4 years old. We are staffed by trained and experienced childcare workers. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday OR Friday (3 days max per child) 9:30am - 12:30pm Cost: 1 day a week care: $144.00 monthly fee + $50.00 non-refundable registration fee + $10.00 annual family membership. 2 days a week care: $288.00 monthly fee + $50.00 non-refundable registration fee + $10.00 annual family membership. 3 days a week care: $432 monthly fee + $50.00 non-refundable registration fee + $10.00 annual family membership. Community Preschool
Offsite - Jericho Military Base at 4th & Highbury We offer a child-centred curriculum for 3 & 4 year olds that is playbased with focused questions and activities. The program supports children in their emotional, social, creative, cognitive and physical development. The children go outside everyday, and participate in 2-3 field trips per year. Morning Session: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9:30am-12:00pm Afternoon Session: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 1:30pm-4:00pm Cost: $190/month + $50 registration + $10 annual membership. Sept & June fees to be paid at time of registration. Registration is a first come first served basis. Kitsilano & Dunbar Kids Club Out of School Care Program (OSC)
Offsite - 2690 Larch Street & 3776 West 28th Avenue Kitsilano & Dunbar Kids Club are committed to providing quality programs that encourage children to learn and explore their interests and ideas. We follow a child-oriented, play-based philosophy. This program is designed for children 5 to 12 years old, attending one of the schools that we serve. We also provide day care during the school breaks at an additional cost. Both locations have care from Monday to Friday! Out of School Care - Kitsilano AM Care (7:30-9:00am) $305/month PM Care (3:00-6:00pm) $305/month AM & PM Care (7:30-9:00am & 3:00-6:00pm) $405/month Out of School Care - Dunbar PM Session (3:00-6:00pm) $305/month *Professional days extra $35/day (registered participants) or $40/day (community members). In House Family Support Worker
Onsite 2325 W. 7th Ave Are you and your family new to Canada? Are you struggling with the responsibilities of parenting? Are you feeling overwhelmed by a new place and raising a family? Our in house Family Support Worker is available to provide one-to-one support and/or referrals for families with children 0-12 years. In-House on Monday 9:00-4:00pm & Friday 9:00-2:00pm. Appointments required.

Food Skills for Families


Offsite - Tapestry at Westbrook Village, UBC (3338 Westbrook Mall) In this hands-on program you will learn how to cook healthy nutritious meals that taste great! Youll leave the program with useful manual full of all the recipes, healthy hints and smart budget tips that you can take back to your family. Starts Monday, March 26th, 2012- April 30th, 2012 (6 sessions) 9:00am-1:00pm Cost: Free *Please note this workshop is for adults only, children will not be permitted in the kitchen. Space is limited so register early at the Front Desk or with Nikki. Offsite - St. Marks Anglican Church (1805 Larch St. ) Our Kits House family resource program supports families with children 0-5 years. Mama and Papa Goose Toddlers and Infants
Offsite - Offsite - St. Marks Anglican Church (1805 Larch St. @ West 2nd Ave.) Come and meet parents and other children in the neighbourhood through an hour of rhymes, songs, and stories that support early literacy. Through this program, you will develop a special bond between you and your child. Kits House offers this program to two different age groups to better accomodate you and your family: Starts Tuesday January 17th, 2012 - March 20th, 2012. (10 sessions) Toddlers (ages 1-3 years): 10:00AM - 11:00AM Infants (ages 0-12 months): 11:30AM - 12:30PM Cost: $60 + $10 family membership *Due to popularity, registration will be on a first come, first served basis. Learn how to build a strong relationship with your children as preteens. It will help you to gain confidence and skills to guide your children into and through the risk-taking teen years. Offsite - UBC Acadia Park Commons Block, UBC Campus (2707 Tennis Crescent) Strengthening CONNECTIONS Welcoming newcomer families to Vancouvers Westside. Do you speak a second language? Do you enjoy helping others? Looking for vaulable Canadian work experience? Become a FAMILY PEER SUPPORT volunteer and connect with your community! Training will provide skill-building in: - Cross-Cultural Communiation - Peer Support - Community Engagement - Local Resouces *Free Childminding, lunch, friendship and fun! Youth Programs
Youth Volunteer Skills
This 10 week program focuses on leadership, team building, self awareness, conflict resolution, interview skills, time and stress management and lots more! Youth will gain more than 15 volunteer hours through Kits House and get involved in the community. Starts February 2012 for 10 weeks. Youth Leadership
The program will focus on developing the skills and awareness necessary to be a community leader and be the next level program for those who completed Youth Volunteer Skills and others who already have some volunteer skills. Youth Leadership will also have a special focus on environmental sustainability and social justice. The program will have opportunities to work on volunteer projects in the community. The program will begin in early 2012. Seniors Advisory Group

Seniors Drop-in

Westside Seniors Links Program
Seniors Links brings together Westside seniors who need some help around the house with students who are able to help. Seniors can arrange to have help with simple household tasks such as light housework, gardening and odd jobs. Seniors select the student and pay $10 per hour for a minimum of 2 hours. Westside Seniors Peer Counselling Program


If you or someone who know is experiencing depression due to change in life circumstances, bereavement, or feeling isolated, our Senior Peer Counsellors can help. Osteofit for Life
Offsite - St. Marks Anglican Church (1805 Larch St. @ West 2nd Ave.) Reduce your risk of falling, strengthen muscles, improve balance and coordination and decrease the rate of bone loss! Instructor: Keno Kinoshita Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:30am - 9:30am Cost: $49.00 for 14 sessions + $5.00 annual membership.

Knitting Group
Offsite - St. Marks Anglican Church (1805 Larch St. @ West 2nd Ave.) This lively group makes hats, scarfs, socks and sweaters for the homeless. Volunteer - Kits House their volunteers!
At Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, we greatly value our volunteers. Volunteer placements are made consensually based on the needs of the community and our organization. We take into consideration the volunteers interests, skills, experience and availability. Volunteers are respected, valued and treated as equal co-workers.
