(ARA) - Your health is always a priority, and making
sure you exercise regularly is your goal. Because life
is busy, you want to get the most out of any time you
dedicate to getting in shape. So how can you maxi-
mize your efforts?
Whether youre a professional athlete or an aver-
age Jane or Joe, adopting some simple strategies
can make a huge difference in your physical ftness,
says Mackie Shilstone, a sports performance man-
ager who has worked with professional athletes like
tennis star Serena Williams
and baseball hall-of-famer
Ozzie Smith.
More than 3,000 profes-
sional athletes over the
past 30 years have turned
to Shilstone to give them
the edge they need to win.
Here are three easy steps he
thinks everyone should take
in order to get the most out
of their exercise regimen.
Step one: Prepare
If you are just starting a ftness program or have not
exercised in some time, its important to see your
physician frst. After you get the go-ahead, remember
that preparing before any physical activity is crucial.
What you put into your body can make all the dif-
ference, so getting adequate sleep and eating healthy
foods gives your body what it needs for peak perfor-
mance.
If youre like most Americans, there is one very
important nutrient youre likely not getting enough
of: omega-3 fatty acids. Because you can only get
these essential fatty acids through what you eat, and
the typical American diet is low in omega-3s, most
people do not get as much as they need. The good
news is that you can easily fll any void by incorporat-
ing a high quality fsh oil supplement into your daily
routine.
Research shows that supplementing with fsh oil
helps you maintain a healthy weight, elevates mood,
supports hydration of the cells, and keeps your joints
lubricated, fexible and mobile, says Shilstone.
Because most people do not get enough omega-3s
in their daily diet, I suggest taking Ultimate Omega
Sport supplement by Nordic Naturals.
Step two: Perform
Youve given your body all the fuel it needs to per-
form well, so now its time to get in the game. After
a good warm up, your body is ready for physical
activity. If youre beginning a new workout routine or
trying a new activity, remember to start slow and go
at your own pace. Listen to your bodys internal cues
and slow down or take a break if you need one.
Shilstone recommends you follow the guidelines on
exercise from the American College of Sports Medi-
cine. He says the goal is to exercise a minimum of 30
minutes for fve days a week at a light to moderate
intensity. This means at an intensity level before you
break a sweat. Alternatively you could exercise three
days a week at a light to moderate level, and two days
you could push yourself harder to a level where you
do break a sweat.
Shilstone stresses the impor-
tance of staying hydrated dur-
ing any exercise. To promote
joint and muscle health,
remember to stay hydrated.
A basic rule for sedentary
people to follow is to drink
one ounce of water for every
two pounds you weigh, daily.
For a 180-pound sedentary
person, this means 90 ounces
of fuid per day. More may be
needed as you become more
physically active. Temperature
plays a factor as well, he says.
Fitness doesnt have to be boring, so choose an activ-
ity you enjoy. You might even want to try something
new, like taking a dance class or trying rock climbing.
Remember to have fun and enjoy the endless ways
you can exercise to get healthy.
Step three: Recover
Be sure to follow any physical activity with stretching
to help reduce muscle soreness. A proper cool down,
including gentle stretching, allows the body to relax
and recover.
After a workout your energy stores will be depleted.
Its a smart idea to eat a combination of protein, like
a fast acting whey protein along with a maltodextrin
carbohydrate source such as a sports drink, within
two hours after your exercise. Shilstone recommends
a 1-to-2 ratio, such as 20 grams of whey protein to 40
grams of maltodextrin. This gives your body addi-
tional fuel to heal and rebuild muscles.
Studies show that omega-3s from fsh oil support the
bodys natural anti-infammatory response and pro-
tects against free radical damage, so your supplement
can also help revitalize your body in time for your
next round of activity.
These three tips can help anyone of any age perform
better, adds Shilstone. Theres no better time to
start being physically ft than the present.
Three simple steps to maximize any ftness routine

Four easy ways to warm up
your home decor
(ARA) - As the chill of winter sets in, your home interior
may be lacking the warmth and comfort youd prefer.
Fortunately, creating an inviting atmosphere does not
require huge amounts of time or money. And you dont
need to be a professional interior designer - or even have
experience in decorating - to transform your home into a
welcoming haven. To bring your decor into the season and
give your home noticeable appeal, follow a few easy tips.
Paint
Color has an enormous effect on mood and it greatly
infuences the atmosphere of a room. Neutral and white
walls can feel stark and cold during the winter months, so
consider warming them up with rich hues like those found
in Dutch Boys 2011 holiday palette. Yellow Springs,
Reservoir Red and Loden Wool will create the perfect
cozy feel, and accents of Ultra White will make your new
colors stand out even more. The warmth of this light yel-
low is reminiscent of lights glowing on the tree, popcorn
strands strung, or light from the candles set on the man-
tel, says Rachel Skafdas, color and design specialist for
Dutch Boy Paints. Its the perfect backdrop for a deep,
traditional red and mistletoe green. And dont stop at
paint - incorporate these colors into other decor elements
for a festive feel throughout the home.
Rugs
Hardwood and natural stone foors have become extreme-
ly popular in the past several years, but these options can
be cold and unpleasant underfoot in the wintry months.
Adding rugs in visible areas will instantly give any room a
more inviting look, as well as warmer feet on cold winter
mornings. Experiment with different sizes, styles, shapes
and designs throughout the home. You might even con-
sider switching out current kitchen and bathroom rugs for
more seasonal choices to give these rooms a festive appeal.
Lighting
Now that winter is here and days are shorter, depend-
ing on natural sunlight to brighten a room past mid-
afternoon is no longer an option. But instead of harsh
white ceiling lights, give your home a cozy glow with
strategically placed lamps, candle sconces and wall lights.
A variety of light sources creates a welcoming feel that
still allows occupants to entertain or read comfortably. A
trip to any home improvement store will prove there are
endless possibilities to light your home, with many unique
and easy-installation options to choose from.
Accessories
Its the little things that can make the biggest difference,
and accent items have a great effect on the ambiance
of your home. From decorative sofa pillows, to festive
candles, to holiday table runners, the details of a room
determine its mood. If youre feeling creative, many home
and craft magazines have hundreds of ideas for do-it-
yourself wreaths, centerpieces, wall hangings and other
accents. And appealing to other senses with a pine-scented
candle or seasonal bowl of potpourri will instantly make a
room more inviting.
No matter what your budget or decorating experience,
you can give your home a cozy, comforting feel easily and
affordably. Using these tips, youll be ready to enjoy the
great indoors in no time at all.

One Place For All Of Your Dental Needs

IMPLANT DENTISTRY
For the last twenty years, implant dentistry has provided
a mainstream option for patients who have missing teeth
in their mouth. Implant supported crowns are
predictable restorations that replace missing teeth, with-
out drilling down adjacent teeth and restoring them with
bridgework. Implants can also anchor full dentures and
partial dentures for a secure fit.
For the past 18 years, Dr. Helen Chiu has been involved
in implant dentistry, from a simple single tooth
replacement to multiple full arch reconstructions.
She does both the surgical as well as the restorative parts
of the implants. This includes single crowns, bridges
and also securing full and partial dentures.
Recently, mini implants have become available as an
economic alternative to conventional implants for
retaining dentures. Patients are very receptive to this
procedure, since it makes eating and speaking much
easier.
Implants are an integrated part of Dr. Chius everyday
practice. It is a seamless transition from an extraction of
a hopeless tooth to restoring the tooth with an implant-
supported restoration.
Your COMFORT and CONVENIENCE are always Dr.
Chius first priority. She would be happy to answer any
questions you may have if you would like to learn more
about these procedures. Please call 973-377-0224.
Also, mention this article for a COMPLIMENTARY
IMPLANT CONSULTATION. Call as soon as possible,
as this offer WILL EXPIRE February 29, 2012.

Stanley Louis believes that the road to reaching your ftness goals should be effcient, energizing
and, most importantly, an enjoyable experience that keeps you coming back for more.
I am dedicated to helping busy individuals to, not just get into fantastic shape but, change their
lives one step at a time. Says Stanley My clients are super successful at meeting their goals
because we work together toward fnding the fun and enjoyment of getting into, and staying in,
shape versus seeing it as something that they have to or should do.
This, according to Stanley, is part of the reason why New Years resolutions so often fail by
the end of January. People put too much energy into the idea of getting into shape. They over
complicate things by focusing on where they want to be versus working out in the moment and
allowing themselves to have fun in the process. It is about living a more active lifestyle, which
includes exercise and proper nutrition as a core element.
Stanley has created programs for hundreds of clients that make the transition to an active
lifestyle fun and exciting. All I need is for an individual to make time in their schedule to
dedicate to their physical self. Do that, and I bring the fun, the technique, and most of all quick
and sustainable results. Stop the dialogue in your head and just show up for yourself. My team
and I will take care of the rest.
Stanley Louis is an avid athlete, a ftness expert, consultant, boxer and the co- founder of
Transition Haven, LLC. - an organization that provides personal and professional leadership
services that include integrated coaching and ftness programs. He has also earned the reputation for being a strategic
and results oriented health and wellness consultant, specializing in improving the performance of personal ftness clubs
and ftness departments.
Stanley has helped hundreds of individuals achieve their physical ftness goals through his dynamic and unique approach
to personal training and ftness. You can fnd Stanley these days at LA Boxing (973) 593-9BOX (9269) in Florham Park

(ARA) - Maintaining a healthy home is
critical for your familys welfare - es-
pecially now as the weather cools and
you begin to spend more time indoors.
Applying a few simple solutions now will
ensure your indoor living environment is
safe and healthy for seasons to come.
Reduce toxins
Less desirable weather may make fall and
winter seem like an ideal time to tackle
your indoor painting projects. However,
you need to be mindful of the volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) found in
many interior paints and fnishes. VOCs
are one of the biggest threats to indoor
air quality; they include a variety of
chemicals, some of which may have both
short- and long-term health effects. For
indoor jobs, select paint with low or no
VOCs to keep your air fresher. Addition-
ally, some houseplants such as ivy and
gerbera daisies can help to naturally
remove VOCs from your indoor air.
Clean your indoor air
Ragweed and pollen will trigger allergy
symptoms for millions of people this fall;
however, the worst allergy triggers are
often found inside the home. Installing
a whole-home air fltration system can
help to remove indoor allergens including
dust, mildew, pet dander and pollen from
the air you breathe. For example, the
AccuClean (TM) System by American
Standard Heating & Air Conditioning
removes up to 99.98 percent of the al-
lergens from your fltered air, so even if
its allergy season outdoors, your indoor
air is crisp and clean.
Prevent mold
During the cooler fall and winter months,
people tend to seal up their homes and
spend more time inside, which traps
moisture and humidity - both signifcant
contributors to indoor mold growth.
Maintain healthy indoor humidity levels
by venting bathrooms and clothes dryers
and using an exhaust fan while cooking.
Install an air humidifer to provide year-
round control of your indoor moisture
level, and keep your home at 50 percent
humidity or lower to reduce the chance
for mold growth.
Watch out for CO
Protect your indoor living environment
from carbon monoxide or CO by install-
ing CO detectors or alarms throughout
your home. This fall, make sure your
homes heating system, including items
such as a furnace or heat pump, vents
and chimney, are inspected and serviced
by a professional contractor. And, if
there is a freplace in your home, open the
damper before lighting a fre to help pre-
vent the buildup of potentially poisonous
gases inside of your home.
Keep a seasonal routine
Most homeowners already know its
important to test their smoke alarms on
a monthly basis, but how often do you
change the alarms batteries? One way
to keep track of alarm maintenance is
to make battery changing a seasonal
activity. For example, beginning this
fall, replace the batteries in your smoke
alarms (and CO detectors), every time
you reset your clocks.
By taking these simple steps now, youll
create a safer and healthier home, allow-
ing your family to relax and enjoy all the
delights the fall season has to offer - both
outdoors and indoors.
