Time
3-4 minutes

Opening of lesson: - Setting expectations: remind students to sit criss-cross applesauce, if you have something to say
raise your hand, and all voices are off.

-"Today we will be reading When Dinosaurs Came with Everything." -Show students the cover of the book. "What might this story be about?" -Call on students with their hands raised (praise) and are following expectations
-"Raise your hand if you know anything about dinosaurs. I'm sure we all know a lot! I want you to keep that knowledge in your head as I start reading the story. It may come in handy!" 10-15 minutes

Procedures: -Start reading the story, pause for questioning throughout. -Working on comprehension and predicting skills throughout story. Critical Thinking Questions: What do you think the lady's going to get? Would you get a shot if you knew you would get a dinosaur? Is it worth it? Why are the moms glaring? What does that mean? Why do you think they are giving out dinosaurs today? (There is always more than one right answer to the question.) What do you think they will do with the dinosaurs? How will they live? How much does a dinosaur eat? What do you think his mom is thinking? What made Mom change her mind about the dinosaurs? Any guesses on what happens next?

We will address each of those questions at the appropriate points in the story. May adjust for time. 5-7 minutes

Summary/Closing: -Finish the rest of the story. -Ask students if they would like something like this to happen in real life.
-Have students turn to the person next to them (already sitting in rows) and do a "think, pair, share" activity. Students will discuss the question from earlier, "Why do you think they are giving out dinosaurs today?" -Students should use "two-finger voices in their discussions (whispering). -They will have a couple minutes (until I see most groups are done) to discuss the question. -Each group should be prepared to share their answers.

Student Assessment: (Informal) -Students will have to be told two or less times to fix their behavior. -Students will have an appropriate answer to the questions asked - Students will show that their attention remains on the story/activity. -Students must all have developed answers ready for the "think, pair, share" activity.
