Special Education Supervisor/IDEA Coordinator Exempt Director of Virtual Education and Director of Special Education Texas Virtual Academy

Position Summary: Special Education Supervisor / IDEA Coordinator will assist and oversee of the state-wide virtual campus Special Education Program according to Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd) guidelines. They will assist the campuses to ensure the provision of needed services for students with disabilities and ensure campus compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations. Qualifications: Education/Certification Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year College or University in Education or related field. Valid Texas teaching certificate in the area of Special Education. Additional grade level or content area certification may be required for select positions.

Experience Special Education teaching experience in a Public School is preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Must have a passion for students, especially students with disabilities. Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with students, especially students with disabilities and their parents. Advanced knowledge of and compliance with federal and state special education law. Working knowledge of and compliance with individualized services for students with disabilities. Advanced knowledge of and compliance with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process. Knowledge of the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process. Knowledge of and compliance with Transition. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of students with disabilities, their parents, the community, peers, administrative staff, Campus Directors, Superintendents, and corporate staff. Must have the ability to effectively interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, transcripts, and grade point average. Must have the ability to monitor and assist Special Education teachers. Must have ability to communicate effectively with and receive guidance from supervisors Must have ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Must have ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional and Program Management Assist campus special education program to ensure that the needs of students with disabilities are met Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular basis and that the findings are used to verify that students are making appropriate progress Ensure the use of technology in the teaching/learning process Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate Facilitate the provision of necessary resources and materials to support schools in the education of students with disabilities Monitor and assist with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process Monitor and assist with the development and provision of Transition services for students in Special Education Policy, Reports, and Law Monitor and assist the campus special education programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations Recommend policies and/or procedures to improve the Special Education Program Compile and maintain reports, records, and other documents as requested Budget and Inventory Recommend the replacement and disposal of equipment when necessary Recommend materials and supplies to assist in student IEP implementation Supervisory Responsibilities Assist Director of Virtual Education in selecting opportunities for professional growth for Special Education teachers Participate, if requested, in the recruitment, selection, and training of special education teachers Perform special projects, during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned.
