Thank you for making 2011 a Christmas cracker of a year!

Hundreds of kind-hearted folk joined forces to make 2011 a fabulous year for our festive fundraiser, Sing for your Heart (SFYH), and we want to say a big thank you to each and every one of you. Your superb singing raised more than 10,000 to help Heart Research UK continue its pioneering research into heart disease and help communities live healthier, happier, longer lives. Our annual Christmas singing extravaganza is a chance for people of all ages, communities and levels of experience to exercise their vocal chords and their hearts for a good cause.

Why is singing good for you?

Its aerobic and gives your heart and lungs a good work out, helping to improve your cardiovascular system It lifts your mood and relaxes you by releasing endorphins, those feel-good hormones Young people from the Archbishop of York Primary School found out first hand about the benefits of singing when they joined the Archbishop of York and Patron of HRUK, Dr John Sentamu and HRUK National Director, Barbara Harpham.

I am proud to be a Patron of Heart Research UK. Its important that research into heart disease gets the funding it needs. I also want to thank Archbishop of York Primary School Choir for coming and singing their hearts out today. Wonderful. Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York Our festive fundraiser has gone from strength to strength since we started back in 2005, and thats down to the goodwill and generous spirit of so many of you. Its a wonderful thing to join in. Every year I see so many smiling faces, not just the singers but commuters, shoppers and anyone passing by. Time and time again, Im told how Sing for your Heart starts Christmas and, especially in stations, it makes a journey home a pleasure. Do get in touch and spread a bit of festive magic in December 2012. Barbara Harpham, National Director, HRUK A special thank you goes to Le Cateau Primary School in Catterick, North Yorkshire, for producing a professionally recorded CD to raise money for HRUK.

Sing for your Heart events took place at train stations, shopping centres, churches, schools and town halls right across the UK:

We couldnt wait to have a good sing song, spread a little Christmas cheer and raise both cash and awareness of heart disease in the process. Beth Daley, Girls in Green Dresses We know that singing together strengthens us physically and emotionally, so this event is perfect for us.
Sandra Kerr, Wercas Folk

Both my parents died of heart related disease and this seemed like a wonderful opportunity to support the invaluable work of HRUK by doing something which we all love and which makes us feel better. Michael Wiles, Musical

Start planning
Its never too early to start planning your own 2012 Sing for your Heart event or to get involved in an event organised by HRUK. The festive fundraiser will once again take place from 8-15 December 2012. To take part this year call 0113 234 7474, email fundraising@heartresearch.org.uk or, visit our website and download a fundraising pack at www.heartresearch.org.uk/events/sfyhpack. And remember, you dont have to wait until December to put your vocal chords into practice. You can stage an event to raise money for HRUK at any time throughout the year, just like Hull-based choir, All for One, did when they staged a Rock, Gospel and Pop Concert in April 2011.
