Intimate Issues Retreat This Weekend

By Mitzi Roberts Where do you get your understanding of sex? From Oprah? From Hollywood? From friends? From your mother? For too long, the Church has either remained silent or has had an equal but opposite reaction to the culture concerning sex. Yet God created sex to be the one thing that joins two people into one. Sex is His idea! Learn how to approach marital sex in a way that brings the fulfillment of true One- -Dr. Howard ness, intense intimacy and the joy of a purpose higher than pleasure or procreation. Discover the sacred dimension of sex, the value of our individual differences and the joy of giving Gods good gift to one another by effectively communicating our distinct needs. Realize that you are not alone in your struggle to overcome pain and problems in the bedroom. We will walk through what Gods Word has to say about sex so that we can begin to reclaim His good gift to us. We will learn about the different sex needs of men and women and have the opportunity to discuss the painful problems that inhibit sexual intimacy. Participants will have the opportunity to ask confidential questions in an atmosphere of respect and safety. Hendricks Mark your calendar now for this women-only Intimate Issues Retreat. Friday evening, Feb. 10, we will meet at the Daumerie Chapel at 6:30 p.m. for this overnight event. Bring your sleeping bags and blow up mattress for our sleepover. PWOC Board Selection 2012-2013 Underway

By Mitzi Roberts and Mia Basilici "Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you" (Hebrews 13:17). Spiritual leadership is serious business and should not be taken lightly. The writer of the letter to the Hebrews rightly understood that shepherds must stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account for their tending of His flock. The writer also rightly understood that spiritual leadership comes with both great joy and heavy burdens. PWOC leaders joyfully serve to keep watch over Gods precious women using the four aims of PWOC: leading women to Christ; teaching women through Bible studies; developing womens spiritual gifts; and involving women in service. The search for PWOCs future leaders is now underway. Mia Basilici heads up the Leadership Selection Team (LST). Her team includes Cindy Weir, Evangel Hernandez and Mitzi Roberts. The LST works closely with the PWOC Chaplain Advisor, Chaplain Beltz, to prayerfully pursue women to serve in the Selected Board positions of President, 1st Vice President-Spiritual Life, 2nd Vice President-Programs, Administrative Coordinator and Financial Liaison for the 2012-2013 ministry year. These ladies must be members of SHAPE Chapel, though a waiver can be requested. All other Board positions are appointed by the new President with the guidance of the Chaplain and the consensus of her Board and do not need to be SHAPE Chapel members. While the transfer of responsibility in May might seem a long way off, the process of leadership selection necessitates persistent prayer, intensive interviews and thoughtful deliberations. Leadership selection is the key to a healthy, successful local PWOC group. God will both call and equip women to lead when we ask Him. PWOC International provides Regional training conferences to help equip leaders for PWOC service. Europe Regions next Women Intent on Leadership Development (W.I.L.D.) Training Conference is May 17-20 in Garmisch, Germany. Interested women should pick up an information packet from Mia as soon as possible. Submit Requests for Consideration for Executive Board positions to the LST no later than Mar. 1. All PWOC members are encouraged to learn more about PWOC leadership at www.pwoc.org. The Leadership Selection Team is committed to filling the following executive board positions in this order: President Models servant leadership; leads the board and the local PWOC body to seek and do the will of God personally and corporately. Administrative Coordinator Coordinates communication within and for the local PWOC community; coordinates all arrangements for board meetings and other board events (such as a board retreat) under the guidance and direction of the President. 1st Vice President-Spiritual Life Prayerfully selects Bible studies and Bible study leaders; trains, equips and encourages the Bible study leaders. 2nd VP-Programs Plans the years programs, taking into account the PWOCI yearly theme, the four aims of PWOCI, the needs of the women of the local PWOC chapter and budget constraints. Financial Liaison Coordinates financial transactions for the local PWOC in accordance with local regulations under the guidance of the Chapel Fund manager. Appointed positions (appointed by the new President and her executive board) Hospitality, In/Outreach, Leadership Selection, Participation, Praise & Worship, Prayer, Publicity, Titus II, Watch Care.

Meet Your Board

Mia Basilici
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA Hobbies: Reading, Travel Current Church: SHAPE Chapel PWOC Position: Leadership Selection Favorite Bible verse: Romans 12:1-2, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. How PWOC has impacted her life: I am very grateful for the fellowship of believing sisters here. I love the opportunity to rub shoulders with such a unique, talented and diverse community of women and to connect to the greater worldwide community of military wives. I am refreshed but also challenged. I am encouraged weekly to worship God with all my heart, love HIM with all my soul, study HIS word with all my mind and share HIS love with all my strength. What a precious gift!

Hometown: Olathe, Kansas Hobbies: Reading, Pottery, Stained Glass Current Church: IBC Jurbise PWOC Position: Publicity Favorite Bible verse: John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. How PWOC has impacted her life: PWOC is such a blessing in so many ways. Most of my friends are PWOC members, and I just love how real and down-to-earth everyone is. I enjoy sharing and learning from the ladies in my small-group studies, and I have been challenged to maintain my walk with God in a place where it would be so easy to allow darkness to cover my spirit. Ive been continuously encouraged by the women of PWOC and feel so blessed to serve on the board this year!

Chaplains Corner: See Potential

By Ronald Beltz I'm so thankful January is over! For me, it's one of the hardest months of the year! There are so many reasons to dislike January. January is cold, dark and bleak in my home -state of Iowa, and it was the same here in Belgium. The Christmas bills began to arrive in the mail. Its usually around January that I decide to step on the scale to see what the damage has been over the holidays! How about those New Years Resolutions? Hows that going for ya? A whole month has gone by - have you kept them all? Yet another reason to be glad January is over! Yes, there are so many reasons to dislike the month of January. However, one good thing about January was the program theme for PWOC is Salvation and Renewal - thats right SALVATION and RENEWAL - boy do I need some of that -- not only in January but every day! So where do we start? I came across this quote from Ellen Goodman. She says, "We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives ... not looking for flaws, but for potential." "Not looking for flaws but for potential" -- WOW! So that means focusing not on the problems but on the solutions. That means being positive instead of negative. That means complimenting instead of criticizing! It seems to me (and here is the theological connection) that the way of the world is to look for flaws - the way of God is to look for potential! This makes me think about Romans 12:2, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." I challenge you to start February by seeing the potential in all things this new year and see how God can use us to bring salvation and renewal to the lost around us. I just bet it will make the rest of this year much brighter and happier. Wishing you a blessed New Year -- God has many good things in store for you in 2012! Clutter & busy life feel like baggage? Simplify your life with God as priority! SHAPE Chapel Fellowship Hall March 19 6-8PM PM Sponsored by PWOC

Point of order
By Karlena de la Cruz We are focusing some of our corporate devotional time on Tuesday to the vision of PWOC International: Simplicity, Intimacy, Legacy. Ive been thinking and praying quite a bit about this vision and how to apply it here on SHAPE and in our daily lives. Lets keep it simple. I think the most important thing to remember is we keep the main thing the main thing. I love little details and sometimes I really enjoy adding touches here and there, but when we get so bogged down with busy work, we need to step back and ask why we are doing it. Is it glorifying God? Is it pointing others to Christ? One thing I LOVE about PWOC is we focus on what defines us as Christians and not what defines our denominational differences we keep the focus on Christ. I looked up synonyms for intimacy and found: belonging, closeness, inseparability, familiarity, nearness. God has called us all to be in relationships. He desires a relationship with us; He created woman so man would not be alone; He called us to be part of a church and to be in fellowship with one another. But He calls us to more than just superficial relationships. Go back and look at the words describing intimacy. There is nothing superficial there. The scriptures are full of ways to be intimate with God and one another, but it is summed up with Jesus words in Matthew 22, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind Love your neighbor as yourself. Sometimes we think of legacies and examples like Corrie ten Boom, Dietrich Bongoeffer, C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien come to mind. But each time we point others to Christ, WE leave a legacy. We can do that within our own homes by reflecting Gods love and character to our family. We can witness to our co-workers, neighbors and those we come into contact with. We have the opportunity to plant seeds of faith to all nations here at SHAPE now thats a challenge for leaving a great legacy. As we focus on PWOCIs vision, take time to pray and ask God to lead you in ways to simplify your life, ways to create intimate relationships with God, your family and those around you and to find ways of leaving a legacy of faith to those you come into contact with. Hugs,

Hebrews 12:1 ..So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.

Join us for our next program and bring a friend!
