    InstallationInstructionsforCoirMats Theareaselectedforgeotextileapplicationshouldbegradeduniformlybyremovingwood, clodsandfreefromotherobstructionssothatcoconutgeotextilecomesincomplete contactwithsoil.Seedsofplantspeciesadaptabletothesoiltypeandregionshouldbe mixedwithmanureorcompostandspreaduniformlyalongtheslope. Compostormanureapplicationisneededonlyifthesoilispoorandthevegetationis requiredtoestablishinshorterperiod. Seeding: Trenching: Atrenchofoneandhalffeetdeepandonefootwideshouldbemadeatthe top&bottomofslopewiththepurposeofsecuringthematwithbackfilled material. ForCoirerosioncontrolblanketsormatswithsmallmesh/openspace, seedingshouldbedonepriortoinstallationofthemat.Foropenweave matsandgeotextileblanketswithmoremeshopeningspace,seedingcanbe doneafterinstallation.

    Measuring: into Overlapping: Anchoring: Oncethemathasbeenlaidout,firstthematissecuredinthetoptrenchbygauge 11Ushapemetalstaples. Woodenstakescanalsobeusedforthispurpose.Theyareusuallypeggedatagap ofabout36inches(1meter).Keepaminimumedgedistanceof2fromtheedgeof theblankettothecenterofthestaplesorstakes. ItisrecommendedthatCoconutFiberGeotextilesoverlapaminimumof6to8 betweenadjacentparallelrolls,andshouldbelaidalongthewidthandneedstobe securedbystaplesorstakes.Whenmatsaretobejoineddowntheslope,place uppermatoverlowermatendwith12overlapandanchorwithtwostaggered rowsofstaplesat12spacing. Themat/geotextilewhichhasalreadybeenselectedforthepurposeisthencut requiredlengths.Thematscuttorequiredsizesareunrolledfromtopandlaid alongtheslope(inthedirectionofwaterflow).Whilemeasuringtheprojectsite, careshouldbetakentoensurethatthematisnotstretchedandthatthe measurementshouldallowforcontactorthecoconutgeotextilewithsoil.
