The brochures are generally found near the product and patients have access to read them at their leisure, ideally when the patient is at the pharmacy. The brochure is very informative, but fails to emphasize the most appealing properties of the product. In the revision, the color was lightened to make the brochure easier to read and more appealing, and important facts were made larger and brought to the top of the brochure. Specific bullet points were revised to highlight the information that most patients are interested in, and also modified to a language more easily understood.

Healthnet Product Description Drug Topics magazine is available to most retail pharmacists and contains information about prescription and non-prescription medications. The information the magazine provides is quite useful and often includes articles on products recently released onto the shelves. The article shown here is a description of Healthnets latest non-prescription products available for common summer ailments. Although the article is directed towards healthcare professionals, the language used is more creative than informative. The revision was designed to be more direct, giving the pharmacists concise information needed to make recommendations to patients.

Prospirit Body Ball Instructions The Prospirit Body Ball is a fitness accessory that one must inflate prior to use. While the instructions that accompany the ball are concise, some of the wording may be misconstrued. In addition, the introduction contains little information about the importance of core strength. The revisions included additional facts about the benefits of strengthening the core, as well as refined instructions that are easier to understand.

Drugstore.com Going Green Site Information on sustainability is becoming more commonplace. Drugstore.com is becoming more involved in the sustainability trend by increasing their green product selection and vowing to make their company more energy efficient. The website commitment to sustainability is informative, but the language is childlike and may not be taken seriously. Revisions to this page are all textual, improving the rhythm and believability.

Lost Angels Brochure Lost Angels Animal Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit organization in Tampa working to help orphaned dogs. The work done by the organization is funded solely by donations and all workers are volunteers. The revisions to this brochure were a group effort in attempt to help the Lost Angels put forward a more concise, informative, and presentable brochure requesting aid for their organization. Improvements made include enlarging the font, adding color, changing some of the pictures, and reorganizing the layout of the brochure.

Personal Statement

My passion for writing began in high school; the more writing assignments we were required to turn in, the more top grades I continued to receive. I also wrote essays for contests and won those as well. I had always flourished as a creative writer, but as I attended pharmacy school, I began to have more interaction with patients in a healthcare setting and began to understand the importance of communicating technical language in a simple and understandable way. Through my pharmacy education and career, I have improved my research skills, learned to work with technically advanced software, and have given presentations, speaking in front of large groups of people. I have contributed to healthcare education news forums and was selected to be in an informative commercial about diabetes during a news segment. In my recent return to school, I have continued to work on my writing skills in creative and professional writing classes. I have written white papers, worked on resumes, and participated in peer review activities. I have completed a flash presentation and am working towards website design. I know that a degree in technical communications will allow me to gain more knowledge and to build upon the skills that I have attained over time through my experience and prior education. My goal is to produce healthcare materials designed for a patients understanding, as well as develop continuing education materials for healthcare professionals.
