We w ould like to know w here w e w ould submit bids for the highw ays and other government/state properties. Also how w ould he go about getting a loan for the appropriate equipment he w ould need to grow the business? He dont have the greatest of credit. Please help if you can? robert w February 7, 2012 at 1:58 pm contact local SBA for info. suggest learn about money b4 state contracts are expensive to get w ith insurance , bonding, security clearances etc. visit dave ramsey .com so u dont learn hard lessons by urself. Anonymous February 10, 2012 at 12:43 am How do i start my ow n law n care business? Hey there, Im in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. I am 18, and I w ould like to start my ow n business. I have chosen the landscaping/Law n mow ing business, I have no experience, I do like law ns, but i dont have a strong passion for them. I chose this business to generate cash flow . Today is my first day of research, I w ill take any & all advice I can get, it can be as little as a paragraph Or even 5 or 6 pages long, i w ill appreciate it, and soak it all up, I really need a lot of answ ers to questions I dont even have yet. Right off the top of my head, here are a few research questions that I have. You can skip this and give me w hat ever advice you have, but also I w ill need these answ ers some how . Thank you Questions: 1.What are the requirements by law , for me to do business as a law n mow er/or landscaper. Exactly w hat licenses, and paper w ork w ill I need to fill out etc. And any other requirement, to do this type of business that I w ill need. 2.What equipment w ill I need? About how much w ill it cost for everything? New /Used 3.What do most law n Mow ing companies/Landscapers even do? We dont have one so I w ouldnt know . I know they cut the grass & blow the leaves, but im sure there is more to it. What is most common, and does it take extensive training? 4.In total, how much do you estimate it w ould cost me to get started? Im in Fort Smith area, and imagine i had 1 truck w / 2-3 guys, and business is pretty good. Also, how much did it cost for you to get started? 5.This question is like part 2 to my first question, What all do I need to be legitimate? Insurance? w ould I need a commercial property? 6.And how hard is it to keep track of my taxes & stuff? & do w e get charged alot of tax in this business? I am sure most of my questions are annoying, but they are the fresh ones off the top of my head, this is my first day of research. I really do appreciate everything you can do for me, please educate me as much as you can. It w ill not go to w aste, & carma does exist:) Thank you all very much! God bless you! Exactly w hat licenses, and paper w ork w ill I need to fill out etc. And any other requirement, to do this type of business that I w ill need. 2.What equipment w ill I need? Riding law n mow er Walk behind mow er Edger for sidew alks Blow er for cleaning up Leaf/grass catchers for Riding and w alk behind mow ers 3.What do most law n Mow ing companies/Landscapers even do? We dont have one so I w ouldnt know . I know they cut the grass & blow the leaves, but im sure there is more to it. What is most common, and does it take extensive training? You can start local in your neighborhood and build up from there. For openers, just mow , trim, clean up, that sort of thing. If you dont like it then you havent spent $$ on trailer etc. Ask your clients w hat do THEY w ant you to do, then do something extra so they in turn w ill tell their friends. It w ill cost you time but consider it advertisement. Everyone likes to think they are getting something for nothing or being treated special. AND dont just do an average job, do an out-of-this-w orld job if you w ant to stay in business. 4.In total, how much do you estimate it w ould cost me to get started? Im in Fort Smith area, and imagine i had 1 truck w / 2-3 guys, and business is pretty good. Also, how much did it cost for you to get started? One w ord of advise if you plan on putting a riding law n mow er up in the back of your truck. Many a person have been killed trying to do just that so be VERY careful if you do something like that get a trailer!! If you start local, most likely you can use your dads stuff until he puts a stop to it. Make a deal w ith him that w hen you get enough saved to buy a new machine, he gets the new one and you get to keep his. I know , that sucks, but you most likely dont have much $$ to start w ith, right? Now , after you buy the second machine, sell his w orn out stuff and keep the change. 5.This question is like part 2 to my first question, What all do I need to be legitimate? Insurance? w ould I need a commercial property? I w ould stay aw ay from commercial property until you really know the business. Contracts can be very hard to get out of and you may be taken advantage of considering your age. Grow into the business by doing the little old ladys law n dow n the street. Remember she know s other little old ladies w ho w ant and love to feel special. 6.And how hard is it to keep track of my taxes & stuff? & do w e get charged alot of tax in this business? Keep a log book and all receipts for gas (also keep track of mileage going to and from the site). Most likely you w ill treat it as income, as if you w ere w orking for someone, deducting cost of doing the business. It w ould pay you to check w ith an certified accountant and not go by these answ ers. Better safe than sorry. Anonymous February 14, 2012 at 6:54 am how can i start a commerical law n service and w hat should i do? i w ant to start a commercial law n service and do not know exactly w hat to do or say i have all of the the equipment to start i just dont know w ho can i get in touch w ith please give me some real advice friends4tenyears February 16, 2012 at 1:26 pm Neighbors squeezing me out! Help!? We live in a very nice neighborhood. I love w orking in my law n. My neighbor to my left feels he doesnt have the time to cut his law n and pays someone to cut his grass. Well, despite me pointing it out, they keep cutting about 4 feet into my law n. And they cut it very short w ith their commercial equipment. Now , my neighbor to the right does not like how the property line ended up after w e built our homes. Despite having it surveyed and stakes installed, she still keeps cutting tw o to three law nmow er lengths into my law n. In the rear I have a very distinct landscaping that divides the property line. She still cuts on my side of it and mow s around it as if they ow n it. Very odd. In the front, she cuts the law n very low and actually burned my law n up last summer. I have had a couple of polite conversations w ith her and her husband about this and asked them both to stop. They said that their law n looks better and bigger if they cut over that far. I said that is true, but it is MY law n! I think she is now doing it on purpose because the last time I said something to her husband she yelled out the w indow of her car the next morning as she drove aw ay stating that she w as w ell w ithin her property line. What do I do? I love w orking in my law n and have the best looking law n on the street. I spend a lot of time and money keeping my grass green, disease and bug free. I treat it my ow n law n, test my soil a couple of times a year and keep it w atered. The one set of neighbors are upset because they pay someone to take care of their law n and mine looks better. They have actually said that to me! What do I do? I dont w ant to create problems since w e all have to live here. But these people really dont care about their law ns nor do they care about crossing the property line. Am I crazy? Am I being petty? I look forw ard to your answ ers. We are in a neighborhood w ith a homeow ners association. The property lines do not lend themselves to have a fence or divider installed such as pavers or landscape timbers. I have had to deal w ith this myself. Taking pride in your law n is an admirable thing. Keeping your neighborhood looking good can never be a bad thing, but frustration and maybe even a little hatred for your neighbors is never a good thing. You have tried talking to them but how did that go? All people are different and compromise can be a great thing if used correctly. Try and figure out something that w ill be asthetically pleasing as w ell as easy to maintain such as some type of barrier or a law n strip w hich divides the properties in some w ay. Flow ers, shrubs or something to bring back the joy you have in taking care of your yard yet adds beauty and harmony w ith your neighbors. Talking to your neighbors should alw ays be the first step, w ithout communication, little can be gained. good luck. Anonymous February 18, 2012 at 7:25 pm law n mow ing flayer PLEASE? Dislike mow ing? Need time for your family? Let me provide a professional cut using professional equipment at less-than-professional prices. I can arrange an on-site, free estimate and mow ing that frees up your time for more important things. One-time customers are w elcome or an arrangement can be made for w eekly, bi-w eekly or once-a-month service. No long-term contract is required. For experienced law n mow ing provided at economical prices call (insert your phone number here) and arrange a FREE estimate. References available on request (w ith prior customer approval ONLY). Dont let your law n take you aw ay from more important things! Call me; Ill take care of it for you! I also provide: (List all other options, such as edging, trimming, leaf blow ing, etc. on the flier. Some w ill w ant full service, others may only w ant mow ing.) You can also add some photos of your prior w ork if your customers agree to the use of images of their law ns. You might also offer discounts to loyal customers and for season-long prearranged mow ing services. I recommend you NOT offer anything such as 1/2 price for the first cut; my nephew did that and almost everyone then expected the price to remain the same throughout the season. He lost over half of those he made the halfprice offer to because they w ouldnt understand how he w as able to cut so cheaply once then doubled the price. Good luck and enjoy!
