Lord Baden Powell Court of Honor Opening a. Presentation of the Colors - (_________________________) b. SPL - "In 1907 Lord Baden-Powell took a group of boys to Brownsea Island for 10 days and taught them the skills of camping, cooking, tracking, and outdoor survival. Out of that humble beginning the Scouting Movement was born. Today, over 90 years later, Scout prospers in many countries around the world. Tonight we celebrate the fellowship of Scouting. Will you please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance" (NO SCOUT OATH OR SCOUT LAW AND PROMISE!!) Advancement Chairman - "As Advancement Chairman for Troop 135, I hereby open the Spring 2001 Court of Honor for Troop 135. ___________, as Senior Patrol leader for Troop 135, will you please light the candle that represents the Spirit of Scouting. Scouts, if you look closely at this candle, you will 3 reflections of the flame. They represent the 3 parts of the Scout Oath: Duty to God and Country, Duty to Others, and Duty to Self." SM - I want to welcome you all to the Spring 2001 Court of Honor. Tonight will be a special Court of Honor because we will induct over ___ new members into our Troop who are receiving their first achievement rank, that of Scout. These Scouts crossed over into Troop 135 last March, and have completed all of the requirements for Scout, and many are almost done with Tenderfoot. These Scouts are at the beginning of the Scouting Trail. Other members of our Troop are further along the trail. We have scouts receiving higher ranks, as well as 3 Adults who have completed Scouter Fundamentals Training, and will receive recognition tonight. We also have 1 Scout who have recently completed his Eagle Rank, the highest rank in Scouting. He will receive his Eagle at special Courts of Honor at a later date, but we will recognize their achievement tonight. When Lord Robert Baden-Powell established the Boy Scouts in England at the beginning of this century he stated that "Scouting is a game with a purpose". As we approach the end of this century we recognize that the games of Scouting are alive and well all over the world. Tonight. as we celebrate our achievements here in Troop 135, remember that you belong to a worldwide family, the family of Scouting. Induction of the New Scouts (Steven Finley and SPL) SPL - "Will the members of the _____________and ____________ Patrols please come forward. SM - "Members of the _________ and __________ Patrols. Tonight you will be inducted into Troop 135. You have mastered the skills required to receive you Scout Rank. But have you thought about what the words of the Scout Oath and Scout Law really mean? As a member of the Scouting Movement, you have agreed to live by the principles of Scouting. You have agreed to show Duty to God and Country, Duty to Others, and Duty to Self. Do you intend to live by the 12 points of the Scout Law, that you will be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, and Friendly? Can you

be Courteous, Kind, Obedient, and Cheerful? Will you be Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent? If so, please gather around the Troop flag, and repeat the Scout Oath, and the Scout Law and Promise." SPL - "Scout Sign. Please join me in the Scout Oath. On My Honor, I will do my best, to do my duty . . . ." Will you please join me in the Scout law. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, . . . . . .". SM - "Will the Parents of each of these Scouts please come forward and join them. (SPL and ASPLs hand out the Scout Ranks and Mother's pins.) Congratulations." Tenderfoot (SPL) "At Brownsea Island, Lord Baden Powell taught the new Scouts the necessary skills needed to survive out in the wild. He taught them how to make camp, find edible plants, cook over an open fire, and recognize the tracks of the animals that surrounded them. Today, a Tenderfoot Scout also learns the basic skill required to safely enjoy the outdoor environment. To earn Tenderfoot he must also demonstrate that he understands and agrees to live by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law and Promise. He must know his Patrol name and yell, and he must sleep in tent he has help put up. He must also demonstrate some basic First Aid Skills, and show that he understands Safe Hiking. Tonight, ___ Scouts will be receiving their Tenderfoot Rank. Will ________ and _________ and their parents please come forward." SM - "Congratulations". Second Class (ASPL) "The rank of Second Class signifies that a Scout has mastered even more of the basic Scouting Skills. He has demonstrated that he can work with a compass to find his way and hike for at least 5 miles; safely use an ax, knife, and saw; start a fire; do service to the community; show more advanced first aid skills; and identify 10 wild animals. Can't you just hear Lord Baden-Powell urging on those early Scouts at Brown Sea Island, as they learned the skills to survive in the outdoors? Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward to receive their Second Class Rank." (ASPL and SPL Hand them Out) First Class (ASPL) In Lord Baden-Powell's regiments, a First Class Scout was one who had mastered all of the skills required to survive in back country of India and South Africa. In Boy Scouts, the First Class Scout has mastered all of the Scouting Skills and is able to survive in the woods of Colorado. He knows how to find his way in the day and the night; he can cook for his Patrol; he can identify native plants; and he has mastered the skills of knots and lashing, and can build useful structures using these Pioneering skills. Lord Baden-Powell would be proud of them!

Will _______________, ___________________, and _________________ please come forward, and will their Parents please join them." Star (_______________) Once a Scout earns First Class, a new set of challenges awaits him. Although not originally in Lord Baden-Powell's vision of Boy Scouts, Merit Badges became the tool for Scouts to explore new ideas and skills that they could use for a life time. To earn the Rank of Star, a Scout must earn a total of 6 Merit Badges, with 4 of the 6 from the list of 12 Eagle-required badges. They demonstrate leadership by serving in a position of responsibility for the troop for 4 months, and they must serve their community with 6 hours of Community Service. Will ____________, ______________ please come forward to receive your rank of Star, and will his parents join him. Life (______________) "One of the goals that Lord Baden-Powell had for Scouting was that it teaches a boy responsibility, courage, confidence in themselves, and a sense of duty. To earn the Rank of Life, a Scout must earn 5 more Merit Badges, for a total of 11, and 3 of those must be from the list of Eagle-required. The goal of every boy in Scouting is to earn the rank of Eagle. When you earn your Life Rank, you can just get a glimpse off on the horizon that final goal. Will _______________________ please come forward with your Parents. (________________) Justin, you have reached the second to last step in Boy Scouts, you are one rank away from the final goal. Now is not the time to sit back and rest, or admire the view back down the trail. Never forget, that although you have one more step to Eagle, Life is only 2/3rds of the way there. Please don't lose the drive and momentum that has gotten you to this point on the Scouting Trail. Finish the Job! Eagle (SM) We have had 4 members of Troop 135 complete their Eagle Rank since the beginning of the year. Jack Smith and Matt Jones have been notified by the National Scout Office in Irving, Texas that their paperwork is complete and they are official. Ryan Davis and Trevor Johnson both passed their Gateway District Eagle Board of Reviews in the last month, and are waiting to hear from Texas. We will be having special Eagle Courts of Honor for each of these Scouts later this year. Merit Badges (SPL, ASPL, ASPL) Since last January the members of Troop 135 have earned ________ Merit badges. Will the following Scouts please come up to get their Merit Badges: (Read List) Special Awards

Order of the Arrow - (__________________) The Order of the Arrow is a special Service Organization in Scouting that promotes Camping, and Community Service. (Candidates) were elected to the Order of the Arrow by the members of the Troop last January. We now have about __________ OA members in our Troop, and will have another election next January. Scouter Fundamentals - (Troop Training Coordinator) Rick Ulyses, and Mike Green recently completed Scouter Fundamentals Training at Camp Magness, Peacefull Valley Scout Ranch. This is adult leader training in the basic workings of a Boy Scout Troop which takes a full Saturday session, another couple of weeknight meetings, and then a weekend campout trip. This is very important training that insures that our Troop will continue to be successful, and I want to congratulate and thank Rick and Mike for their efforts. Adult Awards Announcements 1. (Line Up, But Don't Take the Flags Yet!)

When Lord Baden Powell wrote the book "Scouting For Boys" in 1910, I'm sure he had no idea that the book he wrote based on the basic training methods he designed for the British Military and adapted to help young English boys grow and develop into the leaders of tomorrow, I'm sure he had no idea what he had started. Now 90 years later Boy Scouts has grown to an organization recognized worldwide. In light of the recent events in our community it is more and more evident that the fellowship of Scouting is still needed. In the Columbine Tragedy several Scouts stepped forward to help the injured students and teachers. Many of those Scouts will be receiving recognition of their good deeds with heroism medals from the Boy Scouts of America. I hope those of you in Troop 135 feel the friendship of your fellow scouts, both those in our Troop and those from troops from across the United States and around the world. Support and encourage each other up the Scouting Trail. Help the guys who come along after you, and respect the guys who have gone before you. I hope you recognize that you are making life long friends, and that you belong to the fellowship of Scouting." Advancement Chairman - "I officially declare this Spring 1998 Court of Honor officially closed. SPL - Color guard attention, Troop attention, audience please stand. Color Guard, please retrieve the colors. Scout Salute,. . . . . . . Two." "Would you please join us for refreshments down stairs."

Spirit of Scouting COURT OF HONOR Advancement Chairmen As the Advancement Chairman for Troop 135, and as a representative of the Gateway District in the Denver Area Council, of the Boy Scouts of America, I hereby open the Winter 2002 Court of Honor. Alex Mcintosh the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 135, will you please light the candle representing the Spirit of Scouting Flag Ceremony ASPL - Call the Troop to Order, Call in Color Guard, Pledge, Scout Law, Scout Oath (Kevin W Color Guard Officer) Opening SPL "Tonight, the theme of our Court of Honor is the Spirit of Scouting. Scout Spirit is living by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Every day a Scout should ask, What have I done today that shows Scout Spirit? Have I been trustworthy, loyal, or friendly? Have I kept myself physically strong, mentally awake, or morally straight? Have I shown Duty to self, Duty to my Country, or Duty to others? Try to live your life with Scout Spirit everyday. Scout Master Introduction Do we have any visitors here tonight? Could you please introduce yourselves? Welcome to our Winter Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is our opportunity to recognize the Scouts in our troop who have met the criteria for advancement, and celebrate their achievements in Scouting. Part of the Spirit of Scouting is participation in Scouting. Going on campouts like our trip earlier this month to Tohasa shows Scout Spirit. Rank advancement and earning merit badges shows Duty to Self, and thats Scout Spirit. Working on service hours shows Duty to Others, and thats Scout Spirit! Honoring the flag and the heroes who have defended it is Duty to our Country, and thats Scout Spirit!! I feel a lot of Scout Spirit in the room tonight! Special Award Before we get started tonight, the Adults in the Troop would like to take a minute for a Special Presentation. Sandra Ulyses? Advancement in Rank Scout SPL (Bring up the Scouts getting Scout) "Gentlemen, you have taken your first step down the Scouting Trail. One of the things that you learned as part of earning Scout was the Scout Oath. Could you please join me in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law" "Scout Sign"

"On my Honor, I will do my best, (repeat) to do my duty, to God and my Country, (repeat) and to obey the Scout Law. (repeat) To help other people at all times; (repeat) To keep my self physically strong, (repeat) mentally awake, and morally straight. (repeat)" Will you please join me in the Scout Law. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. "Could the parents of these guys please line up behind them. Congratulations. Tenderfoot ASPL "Scouts who achieve Tenderfoot have gotten their first taste of Scouting, and have begun living with Scout Spirit. What does it really mean to be Trustworthy and Loyal? To me it means to be dependable, to do what I said I would do, and to stand by my friends even when they need it the most. Scouts who achieve Tenderfoot must go on at least one campout and use the skills like cooking and knot tying, things that need to know, and things that show Duty to Self. They have also learned to work together with their Patrol members, being Helpful and Friendly. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand. Second Class ASPL One of the requirements for Second Class is to perform at least one hour of Service. This shows Duty to Others. Over the last couple of months, we have had several opportunities for Service Hours. Steven Left Eagle Project was to repaint the playground equipment at a local elementary school, and many of us helped. Mark Right organized a food drive for needy families last Thanksgiving and we helped there too! David Ulyses rebuilt a Trail up in the Mountains, and many of us helped him with that project For Second Class you also have to discuss the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. This is working on keeping ourselves Mentally Awake. You also work on keeping physically strong by learning good eating habits as part of planning the menus and buying the food for the cooking we did on our campouts. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand First Class - Older Scout "The Scouts who tonight earn the Rank of First Class are now ready for harder camping, more responsibility, and more interesting and challenging activities. Those are all examples of keeping physically strong, and mentally awake. They also had to talk to a teacher or an elected

official about our Constitutional Rights and Obligations. That shows Duty to Country, and thats Scout Spirit! Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Star Older Scout "For Star, a Scout must earn 6 Merit Badges, and 4 of the 6 must be from the list of Eagle required merit Badges. There are all kinds of opportunity for Scout Spirit in earning Merit Badges. Learn a new skill, thats keeping us Mentally Awake! Learn First Aid, thats Duty to Others. Earn Citizenship in the Community, or the Nation, or the World, thats Duty to Country. Hiking Merit Badge could show Courteous, Friendly, Helpful, Loyal hey your supposed to stay together and support each other right?! Thats Scout Spirit! Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Life Eagle Scout if possible "By the time a Scout earns the rank of Life, he is probably one of the leaders in the Troop. Leadership brings its own challenges to living with Scout Spirit. Working with younger Scouts takes patience, and that requires you to be Helpful, Friendly, and Kind. A leader must be Loyal to his Troop, show Cheerful Service, and be Thrifty with the Troops resources. Finally, a Leader must be Brave, and do whats right, not necessarily whats popular. "Will ______________, and ____________ and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Eagle SM The highest rank a boy can earn is Eagle. It requires that a Scout earn 21 Merit Badges, show Leadership both by having a Leadership position in the Troop, and by organizing, planning, and carrying out an Eagle Project that benefits the Community. You heard about some of the Eagle Projects earlier. Tonight we want to recognize 4 new Eagle Candidates who recently completed their Council Board of Review, and are waiting to hear if their applications have been accepted by the BSA National Office in Texas. Could Justin Jones, Stephen Left, Mark Rifht, and Ben Baot please stand up? Could we also have all of the other Eagle Scouts among us please stand and be recognized. I each of these Scouts and Scouters have shown the ultimate in Scout Spirit! Each of these new Eagles will have a Special Eagle Court of Honor in the next few months, but we wanted to recognize them tonight for their accomplishment. Merit Badges SPL, the ASPLs, and SM

SM - "We have ___________ Merit Badges to award tonight. Merit Badges are an opportunity to experience something new and different. They come in a wide variety of flavors, and cover many topics and skills. We have been working on several new merit badges, and I would like to thank the adults in our troop who worked as Merit Badge Counselors. We are always looking for Merit Badge Counselors, and hope other adults will volunteer to help. I think the easiest way to award these merit badges is to have each Scout come up as they are called to receive all of the Merit Badges they have earned. (SPL, ASPLs READ MERIT BADGE CARDS) Service Stars (??) Special Awards (??) 1. ________________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________________ 3. ________________________________________________________ Friends of Scouting Presentation - (Presenter ______________________________________) Announcements SPL - Before the closing, we have a few announcements 1. ____________________________________________________ 2. ____________________________________________________ 3. ____________________________________________________ 4. ____________________________________________________ 5._____________________________________________________ Closing SPL The Spirit of Scouting is all around us. Its part of everything we do, whether we think about it or not. Tonight, we should all pledge to live our lives in a way that will best represent the Spirit of Scouting. Be Trustworthy, be Loyal. Be Helpful, be Friendly. Be Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, and Thrifty. Be Brave, be Clean, and be Reverent. Remember that even as I blow out this candle, the Spirit of Scouting is still here. (BLOW OUT CANDLE)

Josh G, will you and your Color Guard please retire the colors. Advancement Chairmen - "As Advancement Chairman for Troop 135, I officially close this Winter 2001 Court of Honor".

What We Did This Summer!!! Court of Honor Opening: The summer of 1998 was very busy for Troop 135. We went drove to Minnesota, went Canoeing in Boundary Water, we climbed 2 Colorado peaks, and hiked up Glenwood Canyon. We went to Summer Camp at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch for a week, marched in Lakewood on Parade, and went shooting. Tonight is a celebration of our summer!! Flags: Service Patrol: PANTHERS (Jim Cuzella) Scout Oath Scout Law ement Chairment "Andrew, as ASPL can you please light the candle signifying Scout Spirit. As Advancement Chairman for Troop 135 I now declare this Fall 1998 Court of Honor officially open". me: For several years now we have been working towards a boy-led, as compared to an adult led, troop. This summer we had a boy-led troop. In Minnesota when we canoed the Boundary Waters the boys decided where we would go, and where we stop and camp. The adults sat back and watched. At summer camp the Senior Patrol Leader and his assistants were in charge for the week. And they all did a great job. Baden Powell said "Scouting is a Game with a Purpose". This summer the purpose was to have fun, and boy did we have fun. sts Introduction: Tonight we have several guests Den ______ from Pack ________ Den ______ from Pack ________ Den ______ from Pack ________ Ora Shefler - Unit Commissioner Dave Lelonde (Denver Area Council Professional Scouter) dership Awards: Spring 1998 PLC - Ryan, Andrew and Jacob Boundary Waters SPL - Ben, Ryan Summer Camp SPLs - David and Dylan

Tonight most of those scouts are receiving their first advancement rank, the Tenderfoot Rank. To help them along we had five Troop Guides who were older Scouts that helped them as they came into our Troop. I would like to acknowledge and thank Sloan Ryan Ben Dylan Nathan for their help". L . "For those Scouts who are receiving their Tenderfoot Rank, the highlight of their Scouting Summer was Summer camp at Camp Chris Dobbins on the Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. To earn Tenderfoot, these scouts learned many things including basic first aid, knot tying, physical fitness, safe hiking, and camping skills like putting up a tent". Would the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: and ASPL hand out awards. L. "Scouts, you have now started up the Scouting Trail. The trail will get steeper and steeper and you advance through the ranks. Always remember that you have the older Scouts in Troop 135 to help you, like your Troop Guides. Next year, when you are the older Scout, you will be expected to help the new Scouts up the Scouting Trail. Lets give them a round of applause" Second Class: "The second rank along the Scouting Trail is Second Class. For these Scouts Summer Camp wasn't all work. They got to swim, play in the row boats and canoes on the lake, shoot rifles, throw tomahawks, and shoot arrows on the archery range. They even got to dodge lightening bolts on an afternoon hike! To earn Second Class, these Scouts learned knife and ax safety, more First Aid, had to swim 50 yards, go on a 5 mile hike, and identify 10 wild animals. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Ls and SPL Handout Awards "Scouts, you have shown that you can face a challenge and come out on top. Keep striding up the Scouting Trail. But every now and then, look back and give a hand to your friends behind you!" Class:

"Summer is also the time to climb Fourteeners, canoe in the local lakes, swim at the Golden Rec. Center, and have picnics in the parks. With all of the summer activities, the Scouts in Troop 135 had the opportunities to complete the requirements for First Class. To earn First Class, a Scout must participate in 10 troop activities, swim 100 yards, practice even more First Aid, learn lashings, and cook and clean up 3 meals on a campout. These are also the Scouts in the Troop who lead by example. "Will Dustin, Jesse, Nick , Jim , and Danny J.please come forward with your parents"

and ASPLs handout awards L "First Class is the top of the first major hurdle in Scouting, but the trail continues and gets steeper as it rises. You will face many more challenges, and you will conquer them, I'm sure. Remember that you are now the leaders that the younger Scouts look up to. Always try to make sure you don't disappoint them.

"Star is the first rank that requires a Scout to earn merit badges. To earn Star a Scout must earn 6 merit badges, with 4 of those 6 from the list of Eagle-required. Star is also the first rank where a Scout must have a position of responsibility in the troop, and do 6 hours of community service. The Scout that earns his Star tonight has already been a Patrol Leader in the Troop. Will Nick Alter and his Parents please come forward. and ASPLs present the award. "I had the pleasure of having Nick in my crew at Boundary Waters. As one of the smaller guys in our crew, Nick didn't get the good jobs like carrying the canoe and the packs that held our gear and food. He and his buddy Jim always got to carry the junky stuff. They had to carry the fishing poles, and the Coleman stove, and worst of all they carried the paddles which are long and bulky and won't balance in your arms. They were also in charge of making sure that we got everything at each portage. There were a couple of times when they had to go back to the other end and pick up something that one of the others had forgotten. I never heard a complaint from Nick the whole trip. Nick was also in charge of catching frogs. I know that somewhere out there, there is a role of film with only pictures of frogs on it!"

e Scout "Leadership doesn't always mean standing in front of the troop like the SPL and ASPL. We also have Scouts whose leadership involves working with the Cub Scouts in the packs that feed into our Troop. The Scout who is receiving his Life rank tonight has been a Den Chief for several years for Pack 237. To earn Life, a Scout must earn 5 more merit badges for a total of 11, including 7 from the Eagle-required list. He must also do 6 hours of community service, and serve in a position of responsibility for 6 months. Would Chris and his Parents please come forward" and ASPLs present the award

e Scout "The crew that Chris was on in Minnesota all had nicknames. On of my favorite birds that we saw on the lakes was the Loon. Each night as the sun was setting, the Loons would begin to call out, and their haunting cry would carry across the lake. Evidently Chris felt a special kinship with these birds because he was nicknamed "Loon". e: "Eagle is the culmination of Scouting, the highest peak on the Scouting Trail. Tonight, I want to take just a minute and recognize the 5 Scouts in our Troop who have officially finished their rank of Eagle. They will all have their own separate CoH later this Fall. Jon t Badges: "A Court of Honor is always the best part of being a Scoutmaster, particularly the Fall Court of Honor. Tonight we are going to hand out over 100 merit badges. One Scout will receive 12 merit badges tonight, another will receive 8. Merit badges offer the opportunity to learn and experience many new things. As you watch these badges being handed out, please think about volunteering to help teach a merit badge in the troop. I am going to talk a little bit more about that later" Will the following Scouts please come forward and receive the merit badges you have earned this summer: and ASPL will read them, and will hand them out. cial Awards: Akela Award elos "The Akela Award is the only award in Scouting that you start as a Cub Scout and finish as a sover Scout. To earn the Akela Award a Scout must have earned his Arrow of Light as a Webelos, dinator and then earn their Tenderfoot rank within 6 months of joining Scouts. They also do a service project at home with their parents" Will the following Scouts please come forward to earn their Akela Award: Alex Finley Stephen Lepke Ben Sanner Scott Threlkeld Joe Eric Jack

World Conservation Award "To earn the World Conservation Award a Scout must earn Environmental Science, either Soil and Water Conservation or Fish and Wildlife Management, and Citizenship in the World Merit badges" "Will Dylan Engberg and Ryan McAteer please come forward."

Junior Leader Training "The best way to learn how to be an effective leader is to participate in Big Horn Training. Big Horn is a week long class that is held at Camp Tahosa early in the summer. We had three members of our troop that took a week of their summer vacation and went to Big Horn: Ben, Sloan, and Nathan. Following the week at Big Horn these guys needed to fill out some paperwork, and have a debrief session with me in order to earn there Junior Leader training Shoulder Patch. Nathan has completed that part of the training, and tonight he receives his JLT patch. Fourteener ping "Two summers ago we decided as a troop that we would like to take advantage of living dinator beneath the Colorado Rockies - the mountains not the baseball team. We began to plan and lead the climbs on some of the Fourteener peaks here in Colorado. We have now climbed 4 or 5 14'rs as a Troop. When a Scout climbs a Fourteener peak, he earns the Fourteener badge, and gets a star for every 14'nr he climbs after that. Will the following Scouts please come forward: Order of the Arrow p Rep "The Order of the Arrow id a Camping Service Organization that is a part of Boy Scouts of America. Its members are elected by the members of a Troop, and their selection is based on their camping experience, and service and leadership in the troop. We elected 8 members last January, and 7 finished their Ordeal Ceremony this summer. Will Jacob, Chris, Ryan, Mike E, Ben L, and Luke please stand up. Just like in Boy Scouts, you can advance in levels in the Order of the Arrow. The first level is Ordeal, which we just talked about. The next level is Brotherhood, which requires the candidate to serve his troop for 1 year, and also pass an oral test. This summer we had 5 of our members become Brotherhood members of the order of the Arrow. Will Sloan A, Ed , Ryan M, Andrew , and Ben please stand. In order to be elected to the Order of the arrow you must be First Class, and have 15 nights of camping. We will have elections again this January.

t Recognition mittee "We currently have 70 registered boys in Troop 135, with about 60 that actively men participate on ekly basis. When I took over as Scoutmaster over 2 years ago I did it knowing that I would have a great group of adult Scouters to work with. This Troop is successful, and we have a reputation as a very good troop. That has happened because of the adult leadership that is here. Some day I'm going to sit down and add up all the miles that these adults have put on their vehicles for Scout activities

I would like to take a minute and recognize the adult leaders in this troop: Dave A - QM Jeanne B -Activities Jim C - ASM Jay C - CM Jerry C-Treasurer Virgie E-CM Kathleen F -Webelos Coord Pat Godwin-Chairman Bernie G-CM Rod H-ASM & High Adventure Coordinator Steve Ingebrigtsen- Advancement/Calendar Paul Mc-Eagle Coordinator Jean M-Fundraising Alex P-QM Jeri C -CM(Beads) Carol B -Permission Slips Rick E-CM Steven F-ASM Diane G-CM Bob M -ASM Diane M -CM Luke P -QM Deann W -CM

Many of you have offered to help, and we are going to be coming to you with a job. We still need lots of help. We need a new Fundraising Chairman to look for an coordinate the fund raising activities so that we can continue to go on these great trips like we did this summer. I need an Eaglebound Coordinator who can help coordinate the activities that we do during the meetings with the younger Scouts. We especially need new merit badge Counselors who can challenge these Scouts with new experiences. Every meeting during the year we offer 3 or 4 Merit badges. Recently we have been offering the same merit badges over and over and we really need new people. This is a great opportunity for someone who has limited time and would like to spend 3 to 4 meetings working with the boys. I will have a sign up sheet downstairs that lists several of the merit badges that we would like to see taught. I will also have the book of requirements that lists what needs to be done to earn the merit badge. "I'm not very good about asking for help. Many of you have offered me your help, and it would really help me out if you would volunteer to do a job in the troop. There is training available, and we have funds in the troop to help pay for that training. Please consider taking the training next Spring. You can see me about information about that. "We have some Service Pins for 3 of our Adult leaders. Jim C gets his 11 year pin, Luke P gets his 10 year pin, Ralph M gets his 10 year pin, and Paul Mc gets his 12 year pin. Could you all please come up. Announcements: [Service Patrol (Panthers) goes to the back of the room during this time. Closing: ASPL brings the Service Patrol to the front. They wait at the Flags. SM "Its amazing to me what a boy will do when he's challenged. He will keep on climbing even when his lungs burn and his legs hurt just to reach the top of a peak. He will keep on paddling for hours into the wind and threw the whitecaps even though his shoulders hurt, and he's really not convinced there's really a campsite available ahead He will even get up early to fish, to swim, to hike, or paddle a canoe just for the thrill of doing it. He might get knocked down with homesickness, but he'll always get back up. He might complain and tell me he's quitting, but its usually looking back over his shoulder at me as he keeps plodding along under the weight of his backpack. And every day I see his confidence grow a little bit more, and his self image improve, and I see him develop a little bit more towards manhood. Its amazing what a boy will do when he's challenged. nt "I now declare this Fall 1998 Court of Honor officially closed. Even though we blow out the candle, the spirit of Scouting will burn brightly in our hearts" "Troop Attention, Colorguard Attention, Guests please rise. Colorguard please retire the colors"

History of Scouting, History of Troop 135 COURT OF HONOR Advancement Chairmen As the Advancement Chairman for Troop 135, and as a representative of the Gateway District of the Denver Area Council, of the Boy Scouts of America, I hereby open the Winter 2001 Court of Honor. David Ullrick, as the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 135, please light the candle representing the Spirit of Scout Flag Ceremony SPL- Call the Troop to Order, Call in Color Guard, Pledge, Scout Law, Scout Oath (Nick A - Color Guard Officer) (Patrol Leaders Council - Color Guard) Opening - Walter S "Tonight, the theme of our Court of Honor is the History of Scouting, and the History of our Troop. This is the 90th Anniversary of Scouting in the United States. On this anniversary we can look at our Troop Flag, and see the history that it contains. There are many adventures represented in these ribbons and banners. Here is one from 1966 where our Troop was awarded Honor Unit at Fall Round Up. You can see that this ribbon has seen a lot, just like our Troop. You will hear more about the history of Scouting, and the history of Troop 135 during the rest of this Court of Honor." Scout Master Introduction - SM Welcome to our Winter Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is our opportunity to recognize the Scouts in our troop who have met the criteria for advancement, and celebrate their achievements in Scouting. Before we get started I would like to take a minute to thank Steve, who is stepping down after 4 years as Advancement Chairman for Troop 135. Steve has kept all the advancement records, which we call the "big book", and goes down to the Scout Shop to purchases the badges we award in events like tonight. Steve has also published the monthly Troop Calendar, which has kept us all on the same page over the last several years. Thank you, Steve (applause). Tonight, Scouts working on Communication Merit Badge will be the presenters for this Court of Honor. Gentlemen, I turn it over to you. Advancement in Rank Scout - David U (Bring up the Scouts getting Scout) "Gentlemen, you have taken your first step down the Scouting Trail. One of the things that you learned as part of earning Scout was the Scout Oath. Matt and ASPL, could you please lead these Scouts in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law" Matt - "Scout Sign"

"On my Honor, I will do my best, (new Scouts repeat) to do my duty, to God and my Country, (repeat) and to obey the Scout Law. (repeat) To help other people at all times; (repeat) To keep my self physically strong, (repeat) mentally awake, and morally straight. (repeat)" David U - Will you please join me in the Scout Law. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. "Could the parents of these gentlemen please line up behind them. Congratulations. Keep up the good work, and I look forward as you begin your journey down the Scouting Trail. Tenderfoot - Danny J. "Scouts who achieve Tenderfoot have gotten their first taste of Scouting. Daniel Carter Beard was an early supporter of Scouting who taught Scouts outdoor skills. Scouts who achieve Tenderfoot must go on at least one campout and use the skills like cooking and knot tying, things that would make "Uncle Dan" proud. Here on our Troop flag is the ribbon from the Camp-O-Rally in 1969 in honor of these outdoor skills. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand. Second Class - Daniel P "Today, Boys Life is received by Scouts all over the United States. In 1912, the first issue of Boys Life was published. Throughout the years it has given Scouts advice on things from Camping to Service Projects. All of this advice can be used to help earn the rank of Second Class. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand First Class - Martin G "The Scouts who tonight earn the Rank of First Class are now ready for harder camping, more responsibility, and more interesting and challenging activities. One of those activities is the Camporee, a camping event we participate in with other Troops in the Gateway Council. In the 1960's the Camporee, which we all went to last Fall, was called the Camp-O-Rally. We have several ribbons on our Troop Flag from both the Camp-O-Rally, and the Camporee. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Star - Alex M

"Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded Scouting in 1907 and started the Boy Scout Movement in Great Britain. That movement has spread around the world, including the United States where it started in 1910. Our Troop started in the 1960's a Belmar Elementary School here in Lakewood. On our Troop Flag we have a ribbon from 1969 for the Scouting Expo, which we now call the Scout Show. We have continued to have a booth in the Scout Show for over 40 years! The Star rank signifies a Scout moving toward the highest goal in Scouting, the Rank of Eagle. Will the following Scouts and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Life - David U "Community Service plays a major part in Scouting. In order to earn the rank of Life, you must have worked 6 hours on Community Service Projects. Another example of Community service seen with several ribbons on our Troop Flag is the Ranch Award. In order for a Troop to receive the Ranch Award while at Summer Camp, we must work as a group for 3 hours on projects that improve camp property. One of the many things we have done is fill in old trails, and make new ones. Lord Baden-Powell thought Community Service was really important in the Scouting Program, and you can see that its also important in earning the rank of Life. "Will ______________, and ____________ and their Parents please come forward: Congratulations, lets give them a hand Merit Badges - SPL and the ASPLs SM - "We have ___________ Merit Badges to award tonight. Merit Badges are an opportunity to experience something new and different. They come in a wide variety of flavors, and cover many topics and skills. We have been working on several new merit badges that we havent done in this Troop before, and I would like to thank several of the adults in our troop who have acted as Merit Badge Counselors including Lisa C, Sandra U, Jerry C, Bernie G, Fred R, Rick U, DeeAnn W, and the others who I'm sure I've missed. Please help me thank them by giving them a round of applause. I think the easiest way to award these merit badges is to have each Scout come up as they are called to receive all of the Merit Badges they have earned. There is over 30 years of history represented in that flag. Its full of campfires, stories, and many wonderful memories. If the original Boy Scouts of Troop 135 were here to see what their Troop has become I think they would be impressed. As we look into the future we see many more campfires, and stories and wonderful memories. (BLOW OUT CANDLE) Advancement Chairmen - David, will you and your color guard please retire the colors.
