Dear Colleague:
We all know that content remains king. However, when our scientic communities are inundated with research results from hundreds of sources on a regular basis, the publisher that wears the crown will be the one with the most valuable content. And its exactly that type of high-quality work that generations of researchers have found in the journals of AIP, its member societies and publishing partnersand the trend remains unchanged today. We all know that change is constant too, and what does change in terms of our content is how it is packaged, delivered, and priced. And so without further ado, we present the 2012 Journal Catalog a consolidated resource of our collective offerings for the 2012 subscription year. Inside these covers you will nd descriptions of some of the most highly cited and highly rated publications in physics and engineering, along with key facts and gures to help you better promote and describe these products to your respective library communities. In the back of the catalog, you will also nd a comprehensive 2012 price list, along with ordering instructions and contact information for our customer support staff. As you leaf through the catalog, there are a few specic changes for 2012 that wed like to bring to your attention. The rst of these involves two of AIPs newer publications, Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy (JRSE) and Biomicrouidics (BMF). Both are moving to a subscription model in 2012 and will follow the same tiering schedule as other AIP journals. We are also boosting the content of our AIP Complete package by adding JRSE and BMF, as well as Journal of Laser Applications, which we publish in partnership with the Laser Institute of America. Another change revolves around AIPs agship magazine Physics Today, which has expanded the online access back to 1999 included with a regular subscription, eliminating the rolling backle previously provided with a current subscription. You may also be interested to know that Physics Today is offering an extended backle option, with access back to Volume 1 (1948) and that the magazine will have tiered pricing for the rst time in 2012. Extended backles are also now available for two additional AIP journals Chaos and Low Temperature Physics, and for the AIP Conference Proceedings series. A subscription to Chaos and AIP Conference Proceedings with the extended backle option will include access from their rst volumes to the present. Low Temperature Physics with the extended backle will include the years 1997-2012. Also new for 2012, institutions subscribing to ebooks on an annual basis from our publishing partner the Society of Exploration Geophysicists will have perpetual access to every title published during the year in which they subscribe. In addition, rates for SEG eBooks remain unchanged from 2011, even though the collection has doubled in size. The Optical Society of America (OSA), one of AIPs member societies, will have a new entry in its Express Journals collection entitled Optical Materials Express. In addition, OSA will offer new subscription options for access to content published in their Conference Proceedings. Lastly, we urge you sign up for our Library Matters Newsletter at librarians.aip.org/newsletter.html to keep current with the latest developments. As always, you can contact our customer service team at 800-3446902 (U.S. and Canada) and +1-516-576-2270, or email us at subs@aip.org with any questions you may have. On behalf of AIP, our member societies, and publishing partners, we want to thank you for your ongoing support of our respective publishing programs.
Sincerely,
Lori S. Carlin

AIP Advances
aipadvances.aip.org
A community-led, open access journal, covering all areas of applied physical science
AIP Advances is a fully open access, online-only community-led journal, covering all areas of applied physical science. With advanced online tools, the global research community is able to find, share, evaluate, and discuss scientific research in new ways. AIP Advances puts relevant content and discussion tools in the hands of the community to shape the direction of the physical sciences. AIP Advances is funded via an author-pays model. Authors publishing manuscripts in AIP Advances retain copyright and grant the publisher a license to publish under a Creative Commons agreement. The prepublication peer review process focuses on whether the manuscript is technically correct and original. Concepts of timeliness, significance, or importance are evaluated by the community following publication through the implementation of online commenting and ranking tools. The online journal has a rapid and low-cost publication workflow with a production cycle of 57 days. The publication process and open access model facilitates rapid dissemination of new scientific concepts. Enhanced navigation and search features on AIPs Scitation platform allow users to find the communityevaluated content relevant to them. Authors of published papers will be assessed an article processing charge of USD1350. Waivers may be available for certain authors, for example, from low GDP countries.

Each week, Physics highlights a select few of the most important and interesting papers from the family of Physical Review journals. This free online publication offers commentaries written by prominent experts (Viewpoints) and brief, editor-written summaries (Synopses) of top research papers in all of the physics subfields. The website is also pleased to welcome Focus* into its weekly content. Focus provides highly readable explanations of some of the most interesting papers, with a particular emphasis on developing the concepts students and non-experts need to understand modern research. Physics strives to bring readers an informative, engaging and self-contained resource for keeping up with cutting edge research in their own fields and other sub-specialties. In addition to highlighting current research, the website occasionally features articles on significant papers from the Physical Review archive. Readers can keep up with Physics by signing up for weekly email alerts or an RRS Feed. *Previously called Physical Review Focus, ISSN (online) 1539-0748 has now been retired. The full archive of Focus stories is available on the Physics website.

Paleoceanography
Focuses on original contributions dealing with reconstructions of past conditions and processes of change as recorded in sediments deposited in water. This especially includes marine sediments, but may extend to sediments from freshwater environments. Approaches to past reconstruction might include sedimentology, geochemistry, paleontology, oceanography, geophysics, and modeling. Contributions will emphasize global and regional aspects, rather than purely local interests, and can cover all ages (Precambrian to the Quaternary, including modern analogs). Online and in print. Volume 27 ISSN 0883-8305

ECS Transactions
ecsdl.org/ECST
Rapid access to proceedings from ECS meetings and ECS-sponsored meetings
ECS Transactions (ECST) offers online access to full-text papers presented at ECS meetings and ECS-sponsored meetings. One volume is published for each meeting. Each volume contains many issues, and each issue includes a collection of papers on a specific topic. In many cases, the full-length papers are available approximately 10 days before the meeting at which the papers are being presented. Other articles become available to readers approximately 12 weeks after the meeting, a significant advance in publication time for this content. Abstracts residing in ECS Meeting Abstracts, freely available online, will be linked to a full paper if it has been published in ECST. If an ECST paper goes on to be accepted in one of ECSs peer-reviewed technical journals, ECST will carry a forward link to that published article.

GEOPHYSICS
library.seg.org/geophysics/
Widely considered the premier international journal of applied geophysics
GEOPHYSICS, published since 1936 by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, is an archival journal encompassing all aspects of research, exploration, and education in applied geophysics. Its articles, generally more than 275 per year in six issues, cover the entire spectrum of geophysical methods, including seismology, potential fields, electromagnetics, and borehole measurements. GEOPHYSICS provides theoretical and mathematical tools needed to reproduce depicted work, encouraging further development and research. GEOPHYSICS papers, drawn from industry and academia, undergo a rigorous peer-review process to validate the described methods and conclusions. GEOPHYSICS editors strongly encourage the use of real data, including case histories, to highlight current technology. One or two issues per year feature a section of solicited papers on a particular subject of current interest. Special sections and supplements in 2011 and 2012 are covering seismic anisotropy; subsalt exploration and development; microseismic monitoring; multiphysics borehole geophysical measurements, formation evaluation, petrophysics, and rock physics; advances in near-surface electromagnetic induction geophysics; and seismic methods in mineral exploration and mine planning. Regular features include GEOPHYSICS LETTERSshort, high-impact, fast-tracked articlesand a section on intellectual property to announce patent information. A discussion section encourages free technical dialogue on previously published articles, and a photo/bio section features the contributors to each issue.
