Understandings
Participants will understand: 1. Participants will understand that there are significant numbers of online communities of learners of all ages exchanging information. 2. The potential impact of the increased opportunities for communication among diverse groups of people on formal education. 3. Participants will understand that a virtual classroom can be very useful for providing a visual representation (similar to a story board) of course content and expectations for student-to-student, student-to-instructor, and student-to content interactions. 4. Participants will understand that a virtual classroom provides an alternative platform for presenting course content that can be strategically utilized as a supplement to face to face instruction.

Related Misconceptions:
1. Online learning environments cannot effectively facilitate learning. 2. Student and teachers cannot effectively communicate in a virtual learning environment. 3. Issues surrounding technology management tend to make its use more distracting than beneficial.

Participants will know: 1. A virtual class section can be used to collect/store/review information and resources related to unit goals and objectives. 2. The impact of virtual learning environments varies with the users primary learning style(s).

Skills
Participants will be able to: 1. Appropriately use the discussion tool to post discussion topics. 2. Promote collaboration through the use of the discussion tool. 3. Promote reflection using the blog/discussion tool. 4. Navigate with confidence within the LMS environment. 5. Design a virtual class section to serve as a depository of information and resources related to course goals and objectives. 6. Upload course content to be readily accessible by students. 7. Appropriately use the assignment tool to post and receive assignments.
