The AIGC All Native American High School Academic Team (ANAHSAT) honors ten American Indian and Alaska Native high school seniors each year. Students who have outstanding academic achievements, leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, and motivation to serve and succeed should apply. To be considered for the AIGC ANAHSAT, an applicant must: Be an enrolled member of a United States federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native group; Have attained an outstanding academic record; Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale; Have demonstrated leadership and community service activities; Be enrolling at an accredited college or university as a full time degree seeking undergraduate student in the 2012 Fall term; and Be a high school senior at time of application.

Application Process: Materials to be submitted with your application: Tribal Eligibility Certificate form (attached); High School Transcript with unweighted GPA based on a 4.0 scale; One Nomination Letter: Each applicant must be nominated by an adult. The nominator should describe a project in which the student played a significant role and note how the student contributed to the success of the project. The nomination should be a minimum of 500 words. The nominator may be an educator, school administrator or a community member, and may not be a family member; One Recommendation letter: The recommender is required to submit a letter describing the students academic achievements and demonstrated leadership. The recommendation should be a minimum of 500 words and may not be a family member; Admission letter from the university you are intending to attend in the fall (if available). Award: Members of the ANAHSAT will receive a $250 honorarium and will be featured in the American Indian Graduate magazine and Indian Country Today. Notification of Award/Denial: All applicants are notified by mail of award or denial. No information will be given over the phone. If awarded, you will receive a packet in the mail with information regarding the All Native American High School Academic Team. Please make sure AIGC has updated contact information. The deadline to submit these materials is April 4, 2012: We recommend that you contact AIGC prior to the deadlines to confirm that all application documents have been received. We suggest that you mail application materials Certified/Return Receipt or Overnight Delivery. Omission of any of the required documents will render the application incomplete.

5. Essay Question: What is your most outstanding intellectual endeavor? In 1,000 words or less, write an essay about your most outstanding intellectual endeavor. This endeavor can include scholarly research, the arts, journalism, public affairs, or community service. Please explain how this endeavor is significant or a potential benefit to society. If you are writing about a group project, be specific about the role you played and how much initiative you took. The judges will consider originality of the endeavor, level of difficulty required to complete the task, potential or actual result of the endeavor and its significance to society. Please type and double-space the essay, using 12-point font. Supplemental materials such as CDs, photos, scrapbooks, newspapers clippings, etc. will not be accepted.
