Tamarind Bay opened Indian Bistro and Bar in Harvard Square in 2004, about which
Boston Phoenix wrote “Finally, Boston has Indian food to rival London's”. The
concept behind the restaurant was to present simple but extraordinary food which India
has to offer, to Boston’s food loving community. In its first year of opening, Tamarind
Bay in Harvard Square, received the highest rating in the food category in the entire US,
only to match one other restaurant in NY, by Zagat’s guide. A unique eating experience,
Tamarind Bay – Indian Bistro & Bar has established itself as one of the finest
restaurants in Boston, winning awards, accolades and a sincere following for its subtly
spiced menu blended with modern décor.

In 2008, Tamarind Bay – Coastal Indian Kitchen opened in Brookline. Tamarind


Bay – Coastal is a fine dining seafood restaurant. The philosophy once again is to
introduce the people of Boston to the gamut of fish, spices and tastes the coasts
of India has to offer.

It is an overlooked fact that over half of India (about 4600 miles) is coastal area. Indian
seafood over the years has been influenced by Portugal, France, England, Persia and
Mongolia to say the least. In our menu, we have included dishes from Mumbai and Goa
on the west coast to Malabar in the south and Kolkatta on the eastern coast.
Predominantly a seafood menu, our signature dishes include some of the commonly
found dishes in coastal India (but not identified with Indian food in the US) such as
Lobster from Mangalore & Pomfret from Mumbai along with a wide selection of
vegetarian, chicken and lamb dishes with coastal influence.

Tamarind Bay combines the knowledge, ambition and traditions of the owners BS Ajai
Kumar and Vikas Kapoor and introduces guests to variation of Indian cooking which is
sure to impress the most of discerning palates.
