The black exodus was a negative economic effect of the Reconstruction era and if Southern leaders didnt want to provoke federal interference: Thus, No southern man of influence believed black disfranchisement to be a political possibility, why did Redemption and the early 20th Century actively disfranchise blacks? What changed in American Society? Was the Negros Hour long over? Could we look at global and internal causes as more pressing, ie the Labor Question and WWI? Was it perhaps left for blacks to survive on their own resources, as in they got their reconstruction amendments and thus the legislation was used as a mere marker?

Was the rise of white supremacy encouraged by the global colonial climate? Or, was white supremacys pervasive nature in American society, as seen with the widespread popularity of the film Birth of a Nation simply a delayed reaction from those who sufferedeconomically and sociallyfrom the abolition of slavery? Fear of the Negro improving as a general trigger for white supremacy. This was a so-called valid fear, because the condition of blacks did progress, albeit slowly. Can white supremacy be seen as a protective mentality for white authority?

Triumph of white supremacy as the construction of a new order and the restoration of an old one. Mentality that white southerners all had vested interest in some aspect of white supremacy. That was its power Sharp color lines but blurred class lines.

While labor unions like the IWW wanted to unite on the basis of all wage laborers, the whites saw a similar advantage in a unified platform. In fact, it seems logical that their thesis was incontestably a unifier. They could frame an us v them mentality without the provocation of outliers to its validity. Thus, was this distinction of color lines as opposed to class, religion or region something that no Black Race Leaders could contest? Was the strength in an emboldened white population too powerful?

What about our society today? Bizarre but sad example of Hunger Games casting major characters as black has caused outraged from fans. Is the vision of American Society as primarily white a consequence from this social order?

Issue of blacks facing that triumph of white supremacy and use conciliatory platitudes rather than confrontational protest. Can we place blame on Washington for the sustained conditions of Blacks, specifically during the time in which he accommodated white supremacy? By the same token that he uses his logic to say Blacks would in time carve a stable place in American society, why didnt he recognize that the white population would use his validation of their superior rights to disfranchise blacks?

By acknowledging blacks as outside the economic system and saying to maintain that position, did Washington secure their second-place status? Time, education, wealth and religion as the only solutions to the race problem. Are these non-political factors able to influence politics over time? Was his trajectory for the African Americans founded in previous radical movements, like the communitarians? By creating their identity would the national acceptance of it force them onto an equal playing field of American politics?

Brought together white supremacy in popular culture and the presidential politics. + Reality that, Freed slaves had been able to force the hand of the federal government during reconstruction, The most prominent race leaders could only provoke Wilson to anger, not action. Were black Americans fighting an uphill battle? Government stayed out of labor conflict as long as they could. Was the issue of White Supremacy regionalized and assumed would be dealt with on the local level?

Black newspapers: dressed up their demands in the language of democracy, just as black leaders had used the language of freedom. Unlike Douglasss reiteration of What July 4th means to the Negro, had the use of patriotic rhetoric to justify the Blacks cause been outweighed by the pervading racism? Was democracys spread by the hand of the US meant for white populations? 1920 Ratification of the 19th Amendment. Vote for women did not mean vote for black women. Suffrage question exposed the limits of womens biracial alliances. Is it unfair to call the clubwomens movement the weakest movement, not for its on effort but due to its lowest stature as a black womens movement? Whats the Appeal of Garvey? Drew on new race consciousness postwar. Largely grown also from Imperialism. Lots more celebration of blackness. Precursor to Black Power. Why was the sensational Garveyism of early 20th century America less successful, at least for creating legislative and societal change, than Black Power would be?

Can the success and likewise failures of Race leaders be seen as directly correlated to world events if we compare? For example, Imperialism and a positive economic situation characterized the US and other world powers in the 1920s. But in the 1960s, Colonialism had been diminished greatly and boom times reached black populations more forcefully. Therefore, was the political position of African Americans in the United States greatly dependent on global forces?

Was the legislative progress caused by such conditions or did the economic prosperity make it difficult to disfranchise the largest minority population through the second half of the 20th century? 1922 Anti-lynching bill proposed but failed because The Southern Dems roared like a lion and the Reps lay down like a scared possum. This statement summarizes the

political climate and also reveals the strength of the Souths political clout. The South had been historically the wealthier region in the US but through the industrial age the regions swapped identities. Why then was the Souths Democratic roar stronger than any attempts made by Republics?

Is this New Negro described simply a wageworker with the disadvantaged race card? Is Domingos emphasis on the economic position of the wageworker like Washingtons agenda? Or do they completely differ because Domingo does not discredit politics? Marcus Garvey Africa for the Africans Build Africa in the interests of our race.

By making this statement of an Africa for Africans, does Garvey then inadvertently imply that African Americans are not at home in America? The issue that Garveyism raises for me is that it undermined the Black populations history in this country and therefore, can empower White Supremacists insistence on their inferior rank in the US. Is Africa for the Africans fuel in the hands of the overwhelmingly racist American population case for black disfranchisement? Or, is this notion of creating a homeland meant to embolden expats in countries like the US?
