SRI ANANDAMAI MA April 30, 1896 A little flower blossomed in this vedic land. She was named Nirmala Sundari Devi. Later her devotees worshipped her as Ma Anandamai, the Mother of Happiness! Nirmala was a normal child with exceptionally good characters. She was normal in following all the customs and rituals of the day. She sacrificed her studies to look after her young brothers and married Bholanath at a very tender age. She was exceptional in her transformation into a spiritual personality and became the abode of love and happiness. The very sound of Anandamai commemorates spiritual ecstasy. Master Bharadwaj visited Ma in 1968 at Naimisaranya on the eve of 7-day lectures on Bhagavata conducted by Sri Akhandananda Saraswati Swami. Thereafter, as Master recollects Mas presence, he says, One hour meditation in the divine presence of Ma wipes off all our impurities. Ma is a replica of Veda Maata. Vedic hymns outpoured Ma inadvertantly. Ma never had any practice in sanskrit or vedas in this lifetime. As poet Kalidasa propounds, prapedire praktana janma vidyaah, commemorating skills of previous births, this could be such an act. Ma was a great reformer. She never allowed blindfold practice of any customs. Once the hand of Kali idol was broken by thieves as they took out the ornaments from her.
8 of 17

Ma was in a distant village that day, but she experienced severe pain in her hands all day long. Later when the priests objected worshipping broken idol, Ma protested strictly. Some time later, when the hand departed from the idol, Ma disposed the idol and even closed the temple forever. Another great incident revealed by Bhaiji discloses Mas unity with the nature. In 1936, Ma had a tour to Kailash-Manas Sarovar along with Bholanath, Bhaiji and few other devotees. There Bhaiji was blessed with a divine darsan which made him run into the waters of Manas Sarovar like a new-born child. He was beside himself with joy and rolled on the ground at Mas feet. A deep rooted feeling that Ma is not his mother alone but the mother of this universe strengthened in him. Ma made him rest and brought him to normal state. In these sacred days marking the 116th birth anniversary of Ma Anandamai, let the showers of blesisngs pour down on all of us ascending the path laid by great souls.

SRI SIVANESAN SWAMI - SIRIDI Oh! On your way to Siridi? Very glad to hear that! By the way, a sadhu by name Sivanesan stays at Dwarakamai. If you meet him, Swami will direct you to all important places of worship and explain the methods of practices there. He will also help you in finding your lodging and boarding. Have a safe and purposeful journey! Thus Master Bharadwaj introduces Sivanesan Swami to the pilgrims of Siridi. Siridi was not a popular centre for pilgrimage among Andhra people in the early 1970s. Hence Sivanesan Swami was felt a close acquaintance by the Telugu-speaking visitors who accounted to a meagre amount those days. Swami looked very simple. Not an eye-catching physique average Indian height, rough beard, a cloth round the waist, another one on the shoulder, thus appears Swami as I recollect him in my minds eye today. On our first meeting, I had the question, Is this the one about whom Master praised a lot? He doesnt seem so! But as I introduced myself, Swamis words of concern and affection wiped off all my questions from my mind and heartfully enjoyed his company. Swami, though busy with his spiritual practices, personally accompanied us to Samadhi Mandir, Dwarakamai, Guru Sthan, Chavadi, devotees houses, temples and other notable places eloborating the minutest details. He also acquaited us with a few marathi words and grocery stores nearby. Thereafter, Swami inquired our needs as and when possible without disturbing our sadhana. Sincerity, devotion and responsibility moulds Swamis words. Hence such keen attention automatically arises in the listeners hearts as well. A sense of care and concern reflcets in his advices and never an order compelling the devotees to follow his instructions. Every afternoon, Swami used to sit along with other devotees and visitors in Chavadi narrating Sai leelas and current devotees divine experiences with Sai. In 1970s many residents of Siridi and nearby villages who had the sacred darsan of Sais physical form used to come quite often. Swami acquainted them with all of us and helped a lot in the research, Master undertook investigating subtle details about Sri Sai. Swami is such a dispassionate personality. To whatever the

degree of intimacy you develop with him, never shall wordly relation interfere your spiritual union. The same feeling of detachment ever prevailing in his heart reflects in his eyes. Let me share my most memorable visit to Siridi. I stayed for a week in Siridi offering prayers and meditating the holy presence of Sai. On the day of my departure, I went to Dwarakamai to offer pranams and take the permission of Baba as was the custom followed by Sai devotees. As I stepped out completing my prayer, I found Swami at the doorstep with a packet in his hands. Dear Bhaskar, it seems Baba is very much pleased with your devotion. Sai ordered me to present these to you. So saying Swami handed me over some stones (pieces of Dwarakamai flooring) which were blessed with touch of the feet of Sai and a piece of Babas kafni. I was overwhelmed with joy. Swami preached the philosophy of self-submission through out his life. He boldly faced a lot of difficulties and cursed situations at Siridi, yet didnot lose faith in Sai and continued his journey. On 12th April, comes the 85th birth anniversary of Sri Sivanesan Swami. Pranams to Sai and Swami!!

A PAGE FROM MY DIARY KODURU INDIRA Thursday Oct 22, 2009 Today is thursday. The day of Satsang. All our satsang members gathered for the day's occasion. Sri Allu Bhaskar Reddy, through His way of Satsang, has been preaching the doctrines of Sri Siridi SaiBaba and the uniqueness of world teachers for the past 4 decades. As Sir entered the Satsang Mandir and occupied his seat, one of our curious members asked, "What are we going to learn today, Sir?" Sir :- Today let us try to clear ourselves, Why should we KNOW? (Everyone seemed a bit confused and surprised at the question; put a blank face with no answer. In our Satsang, we developed the habit of equally sharing our views and doubts. In this vast universe, man is the only being gifted with two greatest boons ever. A Mind to think & A Heart to feel With these 2 great boons man has got no other chance but to use them purposefully. Or else these boons turn into curses leading life into misery. Mem :- How does misuse leads to misery? We never heard of any animal species suffering from misery? Sir :- All the animals live as part of nature. They dont have a separate existence. They dont have a separate mind to think and act or a heart to feel and respond. All their acts and mutations are reflexive, they react and respond accordingly. They take birth, lead their life, end their journey as part of the laws of nature. They may undergo pain and suffering in odd conditions but never do they experience misery. NATURE LIVES IN THEM. But it makes the difference in case of man. We, humans, with our gifted heart & mind, always stood apart from the nature. And even tried to make the best use of it. A buffalo took the rain as is but man went to have some shelter

SRI AVADHUTA SWAMI - KADAPA The world fails to recognise some of the great souls while in their mortal form. Only after their departure from this physical world, we do realise their sanctity, penance and sainthood. One such great soul is Sri Avadhuta Swami of Kadapa. Swami was considered insane by most of the residents of Kadapa district while a few recollect him as Avadhuta Swami. Master Bharadwaj identified Swamis state of mind, solitude and inner self and pronounced him as Mahatma, the great soul. And encouraged us to visit Swami for his blessings. We (some of the associates of Master) were blessed with Swamis darsan for the first time around 7th April 1975 on the eve of Masters marriage at Banaganapalle. After attending the marriage ceremony, on our way back Master advised us to visit Swami. Following his instructions, we made a break journey via Kadapa. Swamis usual abode was the fire station and nearby area. By the time we reached, Swami was resting beneath the compund wall. Our first glimpse recorded in our minds - tall and energetic physique, pleasant countenance, disordered hair wearing a loin cloth upto the knees. He appeared to be free soul, bound to nothing in this world. We went near him, greeted him on behalf of our Master. Swami remained unnoticed for a while. Later he got up, walked a few feet North-East and beckoned us. He made each of us bow down for 9 times and blessed us greatly. The dynamic state
16 of 17

of our mind calmed without any trial and continued in that state. We spent few hours with Swami and made our way back. Contrary to our experience stands the account of localaites. They say, Swami is an insane strolling down the streets of Kadapa day and night. No one knows his whereabouts. Some of them treat him as a great person and approach him with their tales of woe expecting a better change. My second darsan of Swami is worth remembering as it remained the blissful coincidence with Swamis samadhi. In my second visit, I spent a lot more time with Swami. We walked the streets in the mid hours of the day. After a long walk, we reached the old bus stand area. Beside the compound of bus stand, underneath the shadow of a big neem tree, Swami drew a circle with a stick and made me sit inside it. Then Swami tapped me with that stick and my mind began to enter a state of meditation. Swami left me in that state for a while and slowly released me. To my wonder that was the exact place where Swamis samadhi was erected the next year. Swamis mortal remains were buried there where he encircled me. April10th, 1978 Swami left his mortal coil and remained immortal. May Sri Sai grace his blessings in the form of Sri Kadapa Avadhuta Swami.
