1. Sketch the shock wave patterns and streamlines for the following bodies following in

supersonic flows: (a)a point source, (b)a concave corner, (c) a convex corner, (d)a sphere, (e)a flat plate at small angle of incidence. (f) a diamond wing at zero incidence. 2.The upstream flow properties in front of a normal shock wave are 700m/s, T1 = 216K and P1 = 0.2205 atmospheres. Calculate the Mach number, velocity, temperature, and pressure downstream of the normal shock (R = 287J/(kg)(K) ). 3.Consider the supersonic flow over a blunt body (a rectangle) as shown below. Sketch the shock wave pattern. Given the free stream conditions are M1 = 1.5, P1 = 22700 N.m-2, and T1 = 216.8 K), find the Mach number, pressure and temperature behind the shock wave.

4. A wedge is traveling in a Mach 1.2 free stream as shown below. The lower surface AC is parallel to the direction of the free stream. The apex angle BAC at the leading edge is 8 degrees, while the apex angle ABC at the trailing edge being 10 degrees. The free stream conditions are T1 = 216K and P1=2.26x104 N.m-2. (i) Sketch the complete shock wave/expansion fan patterns for all upper and lower surfaces. Indicate the flow streamlines. Calculate the local Mach number, temperature and pressure on the upper surface AB. Calculate the local Mach number, temperature and pressure on the rear lower surface CB.

7. A two-dimensional oblique shock diffuser consists of a ramp with a deflection angle of

6 degrees . The free stream conditions are M1 = 2.0, P1 = 0.227 atmospheres, and T1 = 216.8K. An oblique shock wave is formed at the leading edge of the ramp, followed by

the formation of a normal shock wave at the bottom lip of the inlet. Find the Mach number, pressure and temperature behind the normal shock.
