Meaning and Importance

Training:
Wikipedia defines training as: The term training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, and performance. Training is imparted to each individual while joining a firm. Every organization has a goal. In order to fulfill the goal the organization has different sets of activities or processes. To perform these activities there are certain predefined methods, which differ from company to company even if they are in the same sector and working on the same set of protocols. For eg. Say banks, each bank in India works under the regulations of the RBI, even then their process are different. Now, to make the employees aware of how to work, training is required. During the training process, the skills are imparted in order to improve on the vocational part of the training

that will impart the knowledge of how to complete an activity. Earlier it was thought that: Technology is responsible for increased need of training inputs to employees But now the new concept of training says that training is responsible for : For individual development and progress of the employee and also that We also require training update employees of the market trends, the change in the employment policies and other things. There is also a difference between training and development. Training focuses on specific job knowledge and skill that is to be applied in the short run, while Development focuses on broad knowledge and insights that may be required for adaptation to environmental demands in the future.

Importance of Training:
1. Respond to technology changes affecting job requirements: Due to change in the technology, there is a need of training, thereby making the workforce able to cope up with the technological changes.

2. Respond to organizational restructuring: If there is an organizational restructuring in process, the employees need to know their new role in the new structure. So in case of organizational restructuring, training is required. 3. Adapt to increased diversity of the workforce: In order to increase the diversity of work force, training is required. 4. Support career development: to support career development and to move higher in the career ladder training is required. 5. Fulfill employee need for growth: So that the employees not work only for money.
