The Life of James Kim
This life chart marks a timeline of James most signicant moments of his lifetime.

1987 I was born on the 31st of December 1987 in Poughkeepsie, New York. My brother, Nicholas, was born on the 14th of April in Kingston, New York. At the age of 5, I was exposed to music for the rst time. My father played his Les Paul Gibson guitar, while singing to the King, Elvis Presley. Moved to Austin, Texas in 1992. Moving to Texas, I was a minority. I was picked on and bullied for being Asian. At the age of 6, I jumped into a glass coffee table and cut my right leg opened. At the age of 7, I killed my rst goldsh. First time seeing death. In 3rd grade, my brother was hit and run over by a car while playing in the church parking lot. At the age of 10, I discovered graphic design by taking piano lessons. I designed the cover art of my piano recital pamphlets for both winter and spring recitals for 5 years. I joined the church youth worship team in 6th grade. It started my path in music, serving in the church, and having a relationship with God. At the age of 12, my father showed me how to mow the lawn and do yard work. First time being exposed to labor intensive work as well as responsibility. My brother learned the drums and soon joined me in the worship team. This allowed us to bond and become the best friends we are now. Music helped shaped our relationship. In 7th grade, I moved to a different middle school. First time having asian friends instead of white friends. In 5th grade, I accidently peed in my pants during my yellow belt induction ceremony for karate. First time being publicly humilated infront of people. 1989 1992

In 7th grade, during a junior high basketball game, I was running down court to catch a pass. Instead of catching the ball, I was hit in the head from the back and fell to the ground. Second time being publicly humilated infront of people. My Grandmother passed away in 2000. High School / Puberty, Insecurities, Identity Crisis, Depression, etc.

2000 2001

In 8th grade, I made my rst short lm, discovering my love for movies.

2004

At the beginning of my junior year, I became closer to my parents after my Identity Crisis and Depression.

During my sophmore to junior year, I suffered an Identity Crisis, falling into a deep depression. My rst job at a nursing home being a Certied Nurse Assistant.

2005

Decided to go to Art School and pursue graphic design instead of dentistry at the beginning of my Senior year in High School. Had to make a portfolio within a 3-month span. Never worked so hard in my life to get into Art School. Finally proved myself and my parents that I have what it took to get in.

Told my parents I wanted to pursue art instead of dentistry. They laughed at my face.

2006

Got accepted to all my art schools and decided to go to Art Center College of Design. Graduated High School. Moved to California. Started Art Center in the fall of 2006. Loneliness / Wildnerness Period. Experienced having no friends, rejection, being alone, etc. Stopped going to church for 2 years.

2008

Bryan, Michelle, & Isabella moves to Los Angeles, California. Joined Ekko Church in July 2008. Baptized and accepted Christ on December 14th, 2008. Got drunk on my 21st birthday. First time ever getting drunk and wasted.

2009

Thriving at School and Church. Trying to live a covenant lifestyle and be transformed daily in Christ. Plan to Graduate Art Center College of Design either Fall 2010 or Spring 2011. Start working for Motion Graphic Studios and work hard for the next few years. Also, start planning to open Ekko Design Studios.

2010

2015 2017 2019

Purchase a house by the age of 27 or 28. Get married by the age of 29 or 30. Ekko Design Studios working in the Motion Graphics, Film, Music, and Design Industries.
