DESCRIPTION
PATALASANLAHI is the banner activity that defines the UP Sanlahi Alliance. It is an annual national inter -high school academic and cultural affair in the University of the Philippines-Diliman that includes an academic quiz show, essay-writing (in English and Filipino), impromptu speaking (in English and Filipino) and on-the-spot poster making contests. Before this event, the alliances member organizations have already held their academic inter -high-school events in their respective provinces or regions. High school students who excelled therein (i.e. 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers) will then become the delegates for the said event. Hence, the countrys crme de la crme will be gathered to unleash their academic prowess and at the same time, as the title of the event implies, to sharpen their minds in a spirit of cultural solidarity. Aside from competitions, PATALASANLAHI also holds a program which includes performances from top-caliber artists and inspirational talks from well-respected speakers.

OBJECTIVES
To showcase the academic excellence and exceptional talents of scholars from various high schools in our country. To encourage and honor academic achievements through the recognition of intellectual performances. To congregate and unite the high school delegates, faculty and UP students from diverse provincial and cultural backgrounds. To further develop the sense of nationality amongst the delegates through exposures to different cultural presentations. To inspire young Filipinos to take actions in promoting nationalism and cultural solidarity.

THEME
The PATALASANLAHI 2012 bears the theme: Green Culture: Cultivating Young Minds for a Sustainable Philippines. This socially relevant theme focuses on promoting culture and environmentalism through nationalistic leadership. It aims to inspire the present and future generations to do their best in their respective roles the current generation teaches the next one; the former in turn seeks to be better than the previous one. Green culture signifies abundance, meaning, the further study and appreciation of the many cultures of the Philippines leads to its richness. Moreover, green culture also wants to convey a culture which focuses on the environment. There are still many undiscovered species in the Philippine archipelago, more research is needed to further develop our agriculture, and hazard risks and disaster reduction must be focused on are some of the areas which must be studied under an environmentalist culture. It is the greatest hope of the Sanlahi Alliance to realize this green culture; a nationalistic leadership must sprout among the youth. Coming from the phrase isang lahi where Sanlahi was derived, unity must encompass all diversities in culture and environment. And with all these in mind, through PATALASANLAHI, youth from all corners of the Philippines must be inspired in taking part in this great endeavor PATALASANLAHI has already touched the lives of thousands of people, especially the Filipino student-youth. The UP Sanlahi alliance takes pride in having built a reputation for excellence and social relevance through this activity.
