Qus.2. Determine :
a) Slope at the left support, b) Deflection under the load.
c) Max. deflection, of a simply supported beamof length 5m, which is

carrying a point load of 5kN at a distance of 3m from the left end. Take E=2105 MPa and I=108 mm4. (Ans: -0.00035rad. ,0.6mm, 0.6173mm)

Qus.3. A beam of length 5m & of uniform ractangular section is simply


supported at its ends. IT carries a UDL of 9kN/m run over the centre length. Calculate the width & depyh of the beam if permissible bending stress is 7N/mm2 and central deflection is not exceed 1cm. Take:- E=104N/mm2.(Ans : d =364.58 mm, b=181.36mm)

Qus.4. A beam of length 6m is


simply supported at its ends, and carries two point loads of 48kN & 48kN at a distance of 1m and 3m respectively from the left support. Find:i. ii. iii. Deflection under each load. Max. deflection. The point at which max. deflection occurs. Take E=2105 MPa and I=85106 mm4. (Ans: yc = -9.019mm, yD = -16.7mm, ymax = -16.745mm, x=2.87m)

Qus.5. A beam of length 8m is simply supported at its ends. It carries a udl of


40kN/m as shown in fig. Determine the deflection of the beam at its midpoint & also the position of max. deflection & max. deflection. Take E=2105 MPa and I=4.3108 mm4. (Ans y4m = -16.29mm, ymax = -16.33mm, x=3.83m)

Qus.6. A beam ABC of length 9m has one support of the left end & the other
support at distance of 6m from the left end. The beam carries a point load of 1kN at right end and also carries a udl of 4kN/m over a length of 3m starting at a distance of 1m from the left support. Determine slope & deflection at point C. (Ans: -0.0010575rad. ,yc = -2.6325mm)

simply supported at A & B. The beam is subjected to a clockwise couple of 300kNm at a distance of 4m from the left end. If E=2105 MPa and I=2108 mm4. Determine :i. ii. Deflection at the point where couple is acting. The max. deflection. , ymax = 9.428mm )

Qus.8. A beam 6m long is loaded as shown in the fig. If the flexural rigidity
(EI) of the beam is 8104 kN-m2 ,find the deflection at point C. (Ans:yc = -11.66mm)

Qus.9. Determine the following for an overhanging beam ABC supported at A


& B & loaded as shown in the fig.a) Deflection at free end C. b) Max. deflection below A & B. Take E=2108 kN/m2 and I=13.510-6 m4.

Moment Area Method


Qus.1. A 6m
udl of 25kN/m two point loads ends. Find the important moment area I=3.3210-4m4. simple beam is carrying a over its entire span and of 15kN at 1.5m from both slope and deflection at locations of beam, using method. E=200GPa ,

(Ans: A=0.0012rad, C=0, B=0.0012rad, yc= 6.64mm, yD= 1.2mm, yE= 1.2mm, yF=76.85/EI, yA= yB =0)

Qus.2. A 3m propped cantilever beam carries a udl of 2kN/m over its entire
span and is supported at its free end. Find the prop reaction when free end does not yield. Take EI=104kNm2 .

(Ans : RB=2.85KN
