Greetings Alumni, Family and Friends: What a great time to be a Mu Deuteron. At 115 members, our chapter has never been larger in its long and storied history. Our accomplishments are many, but perhaps what I am most proud of is our academic excellence: A E Pi is one of only two chapters to maintain a GPA of over 3.0 for the past nine semesters. This is a testament to the academic culture that we hold dear at AEPi, a culture that begins during potential new members very first day. I am so proud of the work we do here at AEPi Mu Deuteron, and hope that I can hear from you in the future! Fraternally, Joshua Wolf Horwitz Master

Rock-A-Thon Co-Chairs Preview 2013s Event
Its crazy to think that it has been a year since Rock-A-Thon 2011 raised the bar once again by collecting more than $80,000 for Leukemia research. The collective effort of active brothers and alumni showed the world that the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi at the University of Missouri mean business and will never stop supporting the fight against cancer. While we are still 11+ months away from our next Rock-A-Thon, exciting work is already underway. Just last week, we selected two underclassmen that will serve as CoApprentices in 2013 and, eventually, as CoChairmen for Rock-A-Thon 2015. It was a tough decision, as we had 10 extremely qualified brothers apply for the positions, but in the end we selected Josh Aroesty and Mason Bikshorn. In the next few months, we hope to make huge strides in preparing for 2013. This includes a redesign of the Rockathonaepi.com website, having a preliminary meeting with our American Cancer Society contacts and working to come up with new ideas we can incorporate next year. The rest of 2012 will be crucial and as always we welcome any and all suggestions you may have. Feel free to contact us at rockathon2013@gmail.com throughout the year. We look forward to this upcoming year and hope you will choose to help us support the fight against cancer again in 2013! Andrew Weil and Galen Hoft

Brothers Scott Wexler, second from left, and Alex Blum, back right, pose with teammates after being named the winners of the 2012 RJI Hearst Student Competition.

Mu Deuteron Brothers Win Prestigious Media Competition

Three months might not seem like enough time to develop a platform that can change the way online advertising operates, but dont tell that to AEPi Mu Deuteron brothers Alex Blum and Scott Wexler. The two juniors played integral roles on the winning team of students in the 2012 RJI Hearst Student Competition, which achieved such a feat. The team created Scope, a widget that gives local advertisers a self-service network to blend their messages with highly-sought and personalized news content on Hearst newspaper websites. Blum, who served as the teams chief analytics expert, said Scope is both practical and useful. Scope is a powerful widget that can be easily applied to any website, making it a valuable 4 tool for advertisers and media consumers, Blum said. The winning team did a great job of presenting an innovative, user-friendly idea that could be implemented easily and quickly, said Reynolds Journalism Institute Futures Lab Print & Graphics Editor Reuben Stern, who was one of the judges. The next step for Wexler and Blum is an allexpense paid trip to New York, where their team will present the concept to more Hearst executives. Im really excited to make this trip with a unique and diverse group of people, Wexler said. Our skill sets compliment each other and Im looking forward to bringing that to New York.

Alumni, Family and Friends of Alpha Epsilon Pi Mu Deuteron at the University of Missouri
During my time as a brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, I have been disappointed in the lack of communication and connection between the chapter and its alumni. With this in mind, I took the position of Alumni Chairman this semester with lofty goals and big plans. While I was forced to accept the fact that my ideas might not always come to fruition, it was incredibly important to me that one idea become a reality: this one. I look forward to this newsletter serving as a means of communication between our fraternity and its alumni for years to come. I have seen alumni beam with pride when they come to visit our house and it is my hope that this publication will offer a similar effect on every Pi Man who has the opportunity to read it.
Sherman Fabes, Josh Horwitz and Andrew Weil, all brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi, were tapped into the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society on the Francis Quadrangle in April.

For you family members and friends, I hope this newsletter will give you some insight into what really goes on in our world. On a day-to-day basis, members of our house are achieving fantastic feats and making a positive impact on our school and our community. I hope you enjoy this inaugural issue of Pi Times and that it brings you closer to our house. Alex Silverman, Alumni Chairman and Editor-in-Chief
