FIRST SEMESTER

ILLUMINATION - Study in Line

Develop an illuminated sculpture based on an enlarged object, and create a wire under frame. The sculpture must be covered in a skin and wired for lighting elements. 3D DESIGN I/II

BENDING

Learn how to: draw orthographically, attach wire loops together in order to create a volume, wire electrical elements, and apply a planar skin

3D DESIGN I/II

PORTRAITURE - Study in Planes

Develop a planar portrait from a photograph. The sculpture must be representative of an art movement like: Bauhaus. No glue or hardware must bet used. 3D DESIGN I/II

CUTTING

Learn how to: problem solve using a model, use the wood shop, create negative and positive planes, and construct a volume without glue or hardware

11

3D DESIGN FINAL - Study in Volume

Develop a three dimensional form derived from a space enclosed by planes, with a position in three dimensional space.

3D DESIGN I/II

FOLDING

13

Learn how to: unfold volumetric shapes, apply geometry, use interlocking tabs, create a series of sculptures inspired by a base form, and modify the points, edges, and faces

Base Form 14 Sides

Each model is based upon the original form; however, they are also variations on the points, edges, and faces. Each model was put together only using tabs, no hardware or glue was used.

SECOND SEMESTER

CASTING & LINEAR STRUCTURE

Learn how to make a plaster mold and create a wooden, linear sculpture around casted objects.

3D DESIGN I/II

CASTING & CUTTING

17

Learn how to: make a three-piece plaster mold, mix plaster, and cast plaster Apply: use of the woodshop

19

Kinetic Sculpture - Rotates along the z-axis

Seating Structure
RULES: -No more than (2) 4x8 sheets of cardboard -No more than 7 independent pieces -Must hold 200 dynamic lbs -No hardware or glue -Buttock is at least 12 in. from the ground -Conform to specific body dimensions

3D DESIGN I/II

FOLDING

21

Learn how to: problem solve under a set of rules, work with limited materials, and work in 3 scale models Apply: use of planar knowledge and problem solve with models

23

3D DESIGN I/II The design is made out of one piece of folded cardboard; it uses triangles as its base for structural integrity. The user sits atop a triangular pyramid, distributing their weight out to the edges of the base. Two side flaps interlock with the diagonals on each sidewhen weight is then applied.

3D DESIGN FINAL
RULES: -Must fit into an 18x18x18 cube -Inspired by cardboard design
