Hell Theory A selectively mute astrophysicist, Rajesh Ramayan Koothrappali is a kind hearted Hindu character on the TV show The Big Bang Theory. Never wishing to harm or bring about discomfort in another person or himself, but not being baptized and thus not allowing him into heaven, Raj is to be sent to Dantes first circle of hell, limbo. Raj has not committed any act worthy of him being sent to another layer of hell, but since he has no gateway into heaven, the peaceful setting of limbo is where he would take up his residence if damned. Although being a circle in hell, limbo is not necessarily a bad place to be sent to, rather, it is merely a place for those who did not accept Christ into their soul but are worthy of a heaven-like place to live in. Limbo is the first circle of hell, past the Acheron, abounding in green fields and a castle with seven gates (to represent the seven virtues). If one were to venture further into hell, in the next circle one would find Howard Wolowitz, the best friend of limbo resident Raj. Howard is a lustful Jew who is seen throughout The Big Bang Theory as being guided by his desire for physical satiation. Never seeming to be satisfied, Howard is always spouting pick-up lines and even after proposing to Bernadette he still looks about other women with a lustful eye. In the second circle of hell resides all those who were lustful in life and, as their punishment, are to be whirled about by the winds of a vicious storm much like how their passion threw them around sporadically. This is perfect for Howard since hes always being blown by his lust from one woman to the next, so it is only right that he be taken and tossed about by the winds of the second circle of hell. Progressing onwards in hell, we come to the fourth circle, home of the avaricious and prodigal. Penny (whose last name is unknown) is one such person who we would see being damned here. The ex-girlfriend of Leonard and a part-time waitress at the Cheesecake

Factory/part-time actor, Penny is very reckless in her spending and always happens to spend whatever money she accumulates on new clothes, especially shoes. Frequently forgetting to pay her bills and piggy-backing off of Sheldon and Leonards internet connection, Penny is still able to go out and frivolously spend money on materialistic goods to benefit her own aesthetic craving. In this circle of hell, those who were prodigal or avaricious in life are to push great weights equal to the wealth they squandered towards the opposing side of a ring where other sinners are pushing their own weights in a jousting match of sorts. Here, Penny would be eternally pushing her prodigal weight due to the sin she committed. Continuing on down hell, past the steep cliff, we find Leonard Hofstadter, who is able to talk and flatter his way out of almost any situation. While he was in a relationship with Penny, he was constantly praising and speaking highly of her even when she wasnt deserving of such praise, but he did this only for the sake of physical gain and to avoid conflict. To the second bolgia of the eighth circle is where Leonard is damned, and it is here where the flatterers reside. The eighth circle is comprised of ten bolgias having to relate to fraud, with flattery being one such form of fraud. Much like the words that spewed from his mouth, Leonard is to be steeped in human excrement representative of the filth that the flatterers produced with their mouths. The farthest character in the depths of hell is Sheldon Cooper. Cynical, smart, condescending, phobic, indecisive, stubborn; all these are adjectives fitting Dr. Cooper, but his reason for being so deep in hell is that hes a hypocrite. Countless times throughout the series Sheldon says one thing and then the very next moment goes off and does exactly what it was that just seconds before he had denounced. There is no better punishment for Sheldon than having to walk about endlessly with a gilded cape, which is fitting because even though it appears to be

made of gold, the cape is actually composed of lead representing the false pretense under which the person lives. He is to do his walking in the sixth bolgia of the eighth circle of hell.
